I've been doing stiar and railing renovations for 17 years now. I too have landed on Sansin stain with Saman urethane. Benjamin Moore in Oshawa and in Scarborough carry these and do quality stain matching for me. I used to have my treads strewn all around my workshop too but put together 2 sets of wire shelf tracks and brackets 2 ft apart. This allows me to fit 18 treads or risers stacked vertically against a wall for drying. I have 3 sets of these along a wall, which gives me enough racking for 2 sets of stair treads with risers. The bonus is I can also rest trims and rails on these racks for drying or just to keep things organized and out of the way while I work on each individual piece on my work bench. Very inexpensive racking. My main workshop is only 9ft x 14ft, in my basement in Toronto. I need to be very economical with space. Happy to hear you're in a town not too far from home. Cheers!

Hello Scott. The best foam brushes I have found are the JEN 2" brushes available on Amazon. They are a bit more dense and firm, seem to hold up a bit better with oil based or solvent based products like BIN. But I find that if I try to save them in a plastic bag, by morning time they are a little limp. When it comes to apply stain in large areas like tables, shelves, etc I found using the styrofoam backed stain applicators work well after I use some tape to pull loose fibers. To apply finish I'll take a new styrofoam pad and wrap it in a HDX wiping cloth that I buy at the local HD big box. I get lint free results this way and I've fussed over a bunch of different methods! I find foam brushes to be very limiting in applying stain. I prefer an old white washcloth which holds a ton of stain and I can usually cover an entire board without redipping.
