We poured a border of Belgium slate with a midnight color concrete then we poured the inside an Italian slate with a hailstorm gray color. We will post a video of sealing it in 5 weeks. Along with another job we sealed at the beginning of the season.

Seems kinda crazy to wait til u poured the outside edge before u threw a stone base in the middle. Guess maybe u didnt have the stone the first day but sure does make things take more effort. Kind of like adding fuel to a fuel tank before installing said tank onto truck. Some sexy concrete though. Before yotube i never had a clue u could make concrete look as cool as u guys on here do.

Looks good man, only thing I’d say is I would have used expansion where the new concrete met the old because that’s probably going to get a stress crack, and how do you pour concrete with the ground at freezing temps? The ground is frozen and swollen, when spring comes isn’t it going to drop and settle? Maybe it’s different in your region?
@jmconcretecoloradosprings
@jmconcretecoloradosprings 2 жыл бұрын
The concrete has room to expand outward so no expansion. And the spot where the new met the old was an area where water dripped from the deck up top. Didn't want water finding a way under. The soil was never frozen since we did this work in May. An odd snowfall that was though. And it's all sitting on a densely packed granular base to avoid frost expansion.

What are those yellow strips ? Nice looking job .
@jmconcretecoloradosprings
@jmconcretecoloradosprings 2 жыл бұрын
The yellow strips are textured so that when you stamp over a joint you don't squish it closed. And after you are done stamping and remove it. Not only will the top surface be textured but every surface down to the bottom of the joint will be also. They add to the aesthetic of the stamp. And like I said they keep the joints open while you stamp. Thank you for your comment and support!

@jmconcretecoloradosprings

Have not considered it. Most the guys on the crew are old school and like to use a standard aluminum screed. I will look into it though. Atleast after a pass with the rattle stick it leaves it real clean.

Please advise what would be a good sealer to use on stained stamped concrete driveway that would be safe for hot-tire marks? Concrete was already sealed with (1 coat) solvent based sealer Thank you kindly, as always super work!
@jmconcretecoloradosprings
@jmconcretecoloradosprings 2 жыл бұрын
That's a complicated question. We usually use dayton superior j-25 but most film forming sealers do not get along with hot tire marks. I would recommend getting with a local decorative concrete supplier in your area and asking them.

What's going to keep the border and big slab from frost heaving separately
@jmconcretecoloradosprings
@jmconcretecoloradosprings 3 жыл бұрын
Valid question. Both are pinned with plenty of dowels with one another. Every joint in that border has had a demo saw score it. Worse case scenario I see is a random crack where we don't want it. That's if the base wasn't done so well. . And the water cement ratios on both pours were nearly identical. If they move they move together. Unless somehow the border gets 70 degree weather and the inside gets 25 degree weather I don't see any problems.

@jmconcretecoloradosprings
@jmconcretecoloradosprings 3 жыл бұрын
@@scottcosta8567 It was a very good question and observation. But there is close to 10-15 short ones I believe around the perimeter. Also I waited till right before the pour to drill the holes. I wanted it cured as much as possible before drilling. Didn't want to chip something.

I prefer to do borders separately. Doing them together gets sloppy. I've seen some kinda clean looking. But done separately they are very clean. Plus it keeps your attention in the right place. Trying to stamp different stamps takes up alot of bandwidth. Plus when you want such a large contrast in color it's best to pour it separately. It would be hard to stain it that black and not Stain the inside. Just needs a whole bunch of plastic. Now if the inside was the same Integral color but only broomed. I would do it all at once and just seal the outside after using that EZTIQUE.
@GRUBB-MUDD
@GRUBB-MUDD 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I wouldn't do that 1 in 1 pour, especially w those joints. They would jump through. I just rent my buggys I don't own, I'm saving for a volumetric mixer. Do they have volumetric mixers in colorado?
@jmconcretecoloradosprings
@jmconcretecoloradosprings 3 жыл бұрын
@@GRUBB-MUDD we have a few volumetric that some outfits own. But I like to order from a wet batch plant for consistency. Funny thing is I have been considering ways to increase profits. We thought about getting a pump. But the Georgia buggy handles 95% of pours with a hugely lower upkeep cost and the pumps are cheap to hire out. Then I also looked into the volumetric mixers or having a small mobile batch plant with a small cement truck. Many ideas but for now just trying to be the best in town. Depending on the availability of mud though. A volumetric mixer might work for you. Always ready when you want it and only use what you need. Just have the logistics for materials set up before hand. Also I think I saw you on r/concrete on reddit.
@GRUBB-MUDD
@GRUBB-MUDD 3 жыл бұрын
I've never used a volumetric mixer nor has 1 In indiana. Only prob is they are rear load and I've never used anything but a front discharge truck. Do u write off all your stuff u buy on taxes and it seems like u bring in finishers. Do u find that more cost effective than having a crew and doing all the prep yourself. And yeah redit is a great way to grow your youtube channel or so I've heard. I have only used it 1 time
