Thank you so much. I've been getting very frustrated with watercolor lately because I can't achieve the dark masstone necessary for indoor scenes. I'll try and add some fresh black gouache to my setup while I save for tubes. - An enlightened pan user
@Stanleylestermiller Жыл бұрын
yes, achieving strong darks and colors with pan paint is difficult. fresh, out of a tube paint, for me, is the only way to achieve what I desire.

Hallo, i love your lessons, i watch them again and again. You have a gift to go to the point. Everything you say is 100% usefull. And its "brainfood" for dozens hours of practice. Thank you ☺️ ..but why Is not good to paint from screen?
@Stanleylestermiller3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, so glad my lessons are helpful. When working from a screen, the image is illuminated from behind, the image glows. This is impossible to capture when doing a painting, it makes it impossible to check our colors, our values. When working from a printed image, we can make our colors match the print exactly, using the squares. Using the squares (see my youtube lessons) doesn't work when using an image on a device.

How long does that squirt of paint last? Should I cover the pan? More videos:) I’m begging:)
@Stanleylestermiller3 жыл бұрын
Squirt out as much paint as I show in the video. When that paint is gone, squirt out more paint. But, remember, squirt out some fresh paint, at least a little of the colors you plan to use, before you start any painting process.

That's really cool! But, why copy the image exactly, just reprint the picture if you want an exact copy of it. This leaves no artist input other than the background.

I teach my students, first learn to paint something exactly the way it looks (Picasso learned to do this), THEN...I make my student interpret the image. First learn to play the piano music as it is written, THEN, learn to write your own music. "First learn the truth, then distort it to your hearts content" Mark Twain. (one doesn't need to be taught how to paint an image inaccurately)

What do you recommend for a color printer?
@Stanleylestermiller3 жыл бұрын
most printers today will make quality images. The mistake many make is that they don't know how to use their printer on the computer. 1. The photo paper you use should match the print. Example: Epson printer, epson photo paper. Use quality photo paper, not regular paper. 2. When making a print, use the advanced settings, select the paper you are using..."print settings" then, paper: epson premium mat, etc. 3. Make sure you choose "advanced" before hitting print. One might need assistance to learn how to use your printer, find someone who can help you, this is very important for good prints.

Can't believe you're instructing people to trace rather than draw.
@Stanleylestermiller3 жыл бұрын
Vermeer, Thomas Eakins and many other master painters projected, traced, or used transfer systems to accurately transfer their subject to their canvas. Of course, if you desire to be a professional (most of my students paint for a hobby), one needs to know how to draw. Very few professional artists today draw well, in my opinion (I know how to draw well, it's takes about 10,000 hours of practice).
