Star/wye connection and delta connection are the two different methods which are used for connecting 3 phase system. In this video, we’ll learn in detail about star and delta connection. We’ll also know voltage and current relationship in both the connections, and where these connections are used. So, if you want to get the details, you need watch the video.

Towards the end, you said that Power Transmitted is the same in both cases. Based on my calculations, the formula is the same: P = root(3) * U * I but, I is different. So, Power in delta is 3 times Power in Star(assuming loads are the same). Correct me if I am wrong.

With some large motors I have worked on, they transition from, if I remember correctly, Delta to Wye during startup. I think it is something to do with the in-rush but, I would like to better understand these.
@oscarcameron3274
@oscarcameron3274 2 жыл бұрын
Compressor engineer here! You're right, big motors usually start in star & move to delta. This is because in star, all 3 phases are connected in one point, which means the phases inefficiently "pull" on eachother & can't deliver the full magnetic power that 2 opposing phases would. In delta on the other hand only 2 phases are ever connected at a time, & as mentioned earlier these are two opposing phases, which deliver the strongest opposing magnetic powers. This means that the motor will start with all 3 phases acting in a weaker form, as to not burn out any wires trying to overcome inertia. Then, once the motor's up to speed, it switches to the stronger delta configuration & runs with maximum efficiency. Hope this made sense! If not there are probably videos out there explaining it better than I can 👍
