Star Trek Discovery's Hilariously AWFUL Season 3

Star Trek Discovery Season 3 was a hilarious disaster that some how managed to put an expiration date Star Trek Canon while trying to move away from it. Wanting to move 930 years in the future so Kurtzman and Paradise could be 'free' of the established lore exemplifies why they are, and have always been, the worst people for the job. Season 3 if filled with the usual Kurtzman Trek, plot holes, contrived story telling, Michael Burnham Space Jesus amped up to 11, and something new ..crying. Lots of crying. There is someone crying in 9 out of 13 episodes. The only thing left to do is chronicle a once great franchises very slow demise. What it has become is on of the most intentionally hilarious shows this side of Batwoman. Yes, we are getting a season 4 and 5, doesn't matter at this point. Star Trek is done under Kurtzman. It has never, and will never catch on. It's CBS and Netflix's money to burn.

14:26 detachable nacelles for increased maneuverability...in space. I almost punched my computer screen when I heard that. It's pretty clear that these writers don't even care. Yet, the critics raved how great this show was. It just shows how detached the elite are from the rest of us.

Wasn't there a whole thing during the tng era about how adjusting the position of the nacelles can adjust the properties of the warp bubble? Seems like it's a plot point in Voyager and why the nacelles elevate before takeoff. 6-axis movement is surely more useful than 1-axis movement for fine-tuning the warp bubble.

And having Adira hallucinating about her ghost BF just because of inheriting his symbiont misses a major element of the whole Trill symbiont concept- the symbiont acts as physical manifestation of a spirit, and the Trills joined with it are akin to bodies that spirit lives in. I think what you are saying is too nice. I did not notice that I watched this review now twice. Thanks KZfaq. This is not a TV show but a propaganda thing that would have retired men and women of the CIA laughing. They began this shit and mass produced it. There propaganda was polished. And when people were coming out and saying those old shows were nothing but propaganda for the CIA to go against communism, no one believed those claims because the shows were award winning. They were smart, funny, and dependable entertainment. This crap is nothing like the CIA and KGB would have anything to do with in those days. I mean, at least this Alex asshat says it is not a ST show. That is refreshing. I just wish that Paramount or CBS or Viacom (whatever they chose to call themselves) would take off the Star Trek name. That would be more refreshing. And Gary is absolutely correct. ST did take on the subjects and took them on much better. Back in the 80's, the MSM had many "How did they" articles and ST has the balls to talk about that stuff. Something that no other TV show was doing back then. Now-a-days, we have space Jesus and how great it is to be around her and leave everyone they knew in the past. Not following the rules of ST that "one can warp around the sun and produce time travel." (Bones) This is how bad it is. Mr. Asshat had to get away from all that just like JJ did for SW. Now, we do not have ST or SW. Thanks assholes.

There was a time about 2 years ago where my wife and I were very interested in following the Star Trek discovery show but thankfully we never have gotten around to it. After watching this video I can see that this new Star Trek show isn’t a welcoming place for us and we have zero desire to have to be “re educated” on how we are supposed to accept ridiculous social issues. The last 10 years have really blazed a trail where almost every tv show and movie now is nearly unwatchable. How hard is it to write scripts based on a good and solid story? I don’t know who’s driving this movement but they feel it’s helping spread awareness of some type but all it’s really accomplishing is further separation, anger, divisions, and hatred ultimately. It’s working contrary to what it thinks it’s working towards. I sometimes try thinking back when it sort of began and I can say that I really started noticing it back in 2008 with the show CHUCK. Loved that show still do, but you’ll notice that every single episode had the female agent beating up males left and right but when they fought another female it was an even battle. It was more lighthearted back then but now it’s steamrolled into a place where I and even my wife just feel uncomfortable with how persistent the toxic feminism and social junk is. As a male, as a white male (which I had nothing to do with because I was just born this way) I feel like I’m not welcome to enjoy most entertainment anymore and honestly I feel isolated and targeted. I’m all about equality and have always treated others regardless of gender or orientation with utmost respect, so why am I made to feel like I’m guilty of something? Like Gary has stated many times on this awesome channel: over correction is not the answer. I love your channel Gary and love what you do brother. It’s good to see other people feel like me and are fed up with it. I particularly love how Gary said that this Star Trek show isn’t the FIRST Star Trek show to try to bring awareness lol. I mean, look at what Roddenberry did in the 60’s with the diversity of his cast! He was revolutionary in what he did to help gender and racial equality and these new Star Trek writers are just...idiots. Anyways sorry for the rant and I’m so glad this channel exists!

Voyager had it's own flaws. To this day people argue if Janeway made the right decision and overlook that there was no decision. Tuvok said he needed an hour to activate the systems to send them back. As if the Kazon would have given them the hour. They were able to defend themselves against the first Kazon ship by sacrificing the Maquis Raider and Kazon reinforcements were on the way. During the whole show this is never acknowledged by anyone. Not even by fans that argue that it was the right decision.

@@thomasn3882 Me? No. It's just that once in a while someone starts the discussion again if Janeway made the rigth decision. And after they destroyed the big Kazon ship I doubt they are in the mood for a deal. And that's if they trust a group of people they know nothing about in the first place. Voyager could leave and leave a bomb. Or could you even risk leaving it to the Kazon? The Ocampa aside, the Kazon could send their ships all over the galaxy to raid places. Or what if the Kazon stumble over the Borg and the Borg grab that technology? No, there never was a choice, which is why I find it so amusing when someone brings it up once more.

@@faded9581 what's ridiculous is trying to ascribe real-world logic to a TV show. Janeway blew up the caretaker because if she didn't there wouldn't have been a TV series, just a two hour TV special. The caretaker was a plot device to get Voyager and the Maquis to the delta quadrant, blowing up the array was the only way to logically strand them there. Also, the fact that no-one really batted an eyelid at being stranded 75 years from home is one of the worst parts of Voyager, not a single tear shed? In what world would that actually happen? Certainly not the one we live in. My cousin used to drive a tank for the British Army and he would be the first to tell you that crying is perfectly natural when you're far away from home in hostile territory and you have no idea when or if you will see your family again.

Dilithium's function was to control the matter-antimatter reaction that powered the warp core (something clearly not a requirement since they didn't have matter anti-matter reactors yet in First Contact and even so Cochrane was still able to build and power a crude warp engine) However Romulans supposedly used artificial singularities to power their ships without the need for dilithium, so after the stupidity of the "burn", wouldn't the Romulans simply take over the galaxy?

Yeah, the big hurdle for warp travel is not needing dilithium (for a specific kind of reactor), but energy requirements. Matter-antimatter reactors were only favoured because the resultant plasma is an extremely convenient way to transfer energy to the nacelles. Even if the Romulans were part of the UFP (and using UFP tech), they defo would've suggested using the "old" artificial singularity to solve the dilithium shortage. If they really wanted to have the UFP collapse due to a lack of FTL, why not use the destructive effects of warp on subspace introduced in TNG? That would require brains though, something the writers clearly lack. Side note, I don't think it was ever stated, but I'm pretty sure it was implied during DS9 that the Cardassians used fusion reactors to power their ships, so they wouldn't be affected either...

Chinballs crimes are still worse, sadly. He didn't bring it back after a long gap and make it shit, he took something that had been continuously on tv since 2005 and for most of it, been doing really well and completely and irrevocably trashed the whole thing. The thing is had he been in charge in 2005 and trashed it right out the door we'd have forgotten about it by now and there would be hope of them bringing back Doctor Who again and ignoring all of it, which is something that could happen with Star Trek. That 25% different thing will make it very easy to ignore. Doctor Who though... well they could reboot and ignore all the 2005 series and onwards, but Eccleston to Smith may have had more fans globally than the orignal series so it seems unlikely they'd want to discard all of that unless they were doing a full reboot which frankly is the only hope left for Doctor Who and they'll probably make that even worse (under the BBC at least). Sorry for the rant, but I can't overstate just how badly they have fucked Doctor Who and how little hope their is for that franchise. Star Trek is in a very bad place too, but better than Who. Star Wars is the healthiest but even that has a long way to go.

Whilst there are some great cerebral moments in Trek (Gareks talk on the federation, Captain Picard in a court hearing fighting for data's right to sentience), ultimately the most enjoyable part of Trek is that indescribable feeling you get when they are out exploring the unknown, be it a creepy alien ship or a new planet. This is the fundamental problem with Discovery, they just don't understand what geeks enjoy. Most Trekkies are more interested in what's in that nebula than Burnhams feelings or Tillys body positivity issues. Discovery should be the best Star Trek ever as we now have the CGI to create those strange new worlds. TNG and Enterprise nailed exploring the unknown, some of the best episodes were pure exploration escapism. I definitely rate Enterprise highly as not only were they exploring strange new worlds, they were exploring the prime directive and their place in the intergalactic community. So if it's that simple why do they miss it. I think the answer lies in the fact it's targeted at generation Z, this generation are more interested in exploring people than planets. I think a show based purely on space exploration would be seen as boring by them. That doesn't mean that the new generation aren't imaginative, they are just different. They've already proved they can do Trek with Star Trek 2009, I don't care about lens flares, that was still a good Trek movie as it had some awesome exploration parts with modern CGI. It was also funny, enjoyable and had some memorable lines and catch phrases. What CBS should do is give us a show in the classic exploration format, create one season as a tester. If it flops then fine, at least they can say they genuinely tried. We all know it won't flop, as there's millions of Trekkies all over the world crying out for it. Get rid of all the woke politics, cut out the emotional bs and get captain Pike in command and do some exploring.

Second the capital of both Starfleet and the UFP were both based on earth so why would earth become isolated and without a Starfleet? Gotta love that scene where loads of people are literally dying from asphyxiation and the one person charged with saving them takes time to tell them they are loved, and have a little cry before going to do the thing that might actually save them.... Aaaaand then ends up unable to escape the resulting lethal area because they themselves ran out of O2 (which should mean all the others are dead,or at the very least brain damaged)........ and then gets rescued by one of the robots that wasnt supposed to be able to enter that lethal area they were dying in ........ I'd say "you couldn't make this crap up" but they did.
