This explains why Picard could hear the Borg in the battle at Earth in Star Trek: First Contact. He had no Borg tech in his body. but somehow his mind was still recetive. In Voyager, Chakotay remained telepathically receptive to the Borg Cooperative after having temporarily linked to their hive mind. But that was temporary. Picard was fully assimilated, and so the damage to his brain was permanent, and as has been pointed out, Picard's DNA was being rewritten when he was Locutus. Most of that got reversed, but the one permanent change turns out to present itself in the form of, as Crusher put it in "All Good Things..." as " the type of defect that would only show up under specific scanning parameters, which was why it had not been detected before, In fact, prior to his assimilation, it really didn't exist. This is the sort of retcon I can get behind.

This season has its problems, but this is one of my favourite retcons in Trek. It explains and expands upon First Contact so much and why he could hear the Borg even after he was rescued. Also why the Queen in First Contact still showed an interest in him.

The last adventure of TNG and we have the whole family back together....Crew, Enterprise-D, the Borg and Locutus! The band are back together!

This first season of Picard just gets getting better and better, I love it. Finally some Star Trek worth watching!

I think it's pretty obvious what is gonna happen, the poetic irony of Jack somehow gaining control of the whole true collective. Picard was robbed of his individuality, now his son will rob the borg of theirs. It's the only way to make sense of the end given we only have an hour to wrap it up. I reckon Jurati will help him, she could assimilate him into her collective and that combined with his abilities could mean he will own the OG borg and they will finally destroy them for good. No more borg, a fitting end to tng even if we never wanna see the borg really wiped out as they're too cool!

I still prefer the Destiny timeline, where "the Borg" were the result of humans from Archer era getting fused with super isolationist high tech aliens with artificial bodies (the Caelar). Explained why they were obsessed with humans (it was a leftover unconscious memory of "Wanting to go home"), and the Omega Molecules (they powered Caelar tech, and when the Archer era disaster happened, causing a total loss of power, again it was a left over unconscious desire to "find power source"). PLUS among other things, it drew a big red line under the whole "you thought they were defeated, but now they're back stronger" trope the Borg became. At the end of the trilogy, all Borg everywhere were transmuted back into their original races (Trill/Human/Ferengi/etc) so "the Borg" no longer existed

This actually makes sense and I'm surprised they don't mention something that would make this petfectly with continuity. In First Contsct, Picard could hear the Borg despite not having any more implants in his body. Troi could even sense he could hear them.

With this revelation, the Borg clearly learned to do this somehow, but AFTER First Contact. It could be either techniques they learned from fighting 8472, or they learned it from Assimilation 2, when Doctor Who and the Cybermen crossed over. Since the Doctor and the TARDIS travel with biological technology, the Borg could have realised that they could do that too. The first thing they tried, after that encounter however, was time travel, and that development took a long time. It could even have been biological alterations they have done this entire time, as they assimilated species from the very beginning, the reason it is a thing now, is they only now have learned to use it.

So glad to see the Borg being their OG badass selves. I honestly hated how they left things for the Borg in Season 2

Why is Beverley thinking the Borg are working with the changelings, wouldn't make any sense what so ever. -What would the changelings get from this, despite getting killed in the process? -How would the Borg and the changelings come up with this ridiculous plan in the first place? I think the changelings just discovered this opportunity (maybe while infiltrating Daystrom they stumbled upon Dr. Soongs findings, hence he died before finishing his work -he didn't look so old in his reconding-), there were no Borg involved in the process until Jack decided to meet the Queen. Most likely the changelings wanted Jack as a blueprint for something, -the dominion was always good in genetic engineering-. It would have been enough to let anyone assimilated go amok, and destroy the fleet or something with the fleet (lime earth) via the computer link, it would achieve the same without giving the Borg control over Starfleet. Changeling infiltration made starfleet woundable to the Borg, but this was not intended to used them to the Borg, this is just a threat since Jack decided to visit them. Holes in the theory: -Why would the Queen need Jack, sure the changelings wouldn't be able to control Borg without him, but the Borg themself? -And if the Borg didn't conspire with the changelings, how could the Borg possibly knew about the plan, Jack himself wasn't aware of this. Perhaps the Queen concluded that out of Jacks memory. -And if the changelings didn't conspire with the Borg, how could the changelings possibly knew about Jack, Picard himself wasn't aware of him, he seems crucial to there plan, but the Borg communicate with Jack on a regular basis, so at least they knew someone with the needed capabilities was there and perhaps even concluded or got from Jacks mind the information about his heritage. PS.: They should have noticed that something is wrong with the crew Jack exerted control over way earlier. Where does this "reciver protein" come from that revives Jacks signals? Notice how he just controlled younger members of the crew.
