He's talking about the special editions, where Lucas went back and changed the scene to have Greedo shoot at Han first and missing before Han shoots back. Lucas did it because he wanted Han to be a good guy instead of a killer.

+TeddyLXIX what confuses me is this was never a matter of contention. No one thought "wait, no- Greedo shot first!" because everyone knew Lucas had altered it. I don't know why it's presented here like it's the counter-argument to all these other people. Am I wrong? Are there actually people out there who thought the altered scene was correct and maybe their memories were skewed?

Do you know what just came to my mind? In the lightsabre duel, Obi-Wan is constantly staring at Anakin Skywalker, or rather he tries to, and not on the lightsabre that's possibly about to hit him, of course he is seeing Darth Vader but tries to reach Anakin through the mask who is trying to kill him. I've never noticed that, but it's like really, really strong and powerful that he doesn't care about dying but trying to see his once student, friend and brother.

I can tell you as someone that was actually there at the theater when it was first release - there was no question life had changed for the human race from that moment on. Only movie I've ever been to that the audience gave it a standing ovation at the end. Everyone, and I do mean everyone, was completely blown away. Star Wars changed everything. Not just cinema but life itself would be different from that moment on - the way we looked at each other, the way we looked at purpose, the way we looked at Earth. It united the world in a way that has never been duplicated and stands today as the new bible from which billions have based their beliefs and taken their moral compass. It was truly a life changing event.

8 жыл бұрын
+Nexus2Eden I heard stories of people actually screaming during the opening scene when that massive star destroyer takes up the entire screen in cinemas when it was released! There is nothing that will ever come close to star wars' audience reaction EVER not avengers or the lord of the rings not even the star was prequels and that is saying something because I'm in my late twenties so I was never there but Star Wars has set the standard with a bar that is light years ahead of any block buster film that will ever be made. PS one thing that could be bigger is episodes 7-9 with 7 releasing this year! AND I GET TO BE PART OF THE GENERATION THAT EXPERIENCES THE REAL STAR WARS (LIKE IT WAS IN THE 70'S) IN THE CINEMA FOR THE FIRST TIME!
@TheBandy98
@TheBandy98 8 жыл бұрын
+Felps Rabelo That is quite literally the three most influential movie franchises of each generation (apart from The Dark Knight trilogy, but those are a little bit darker as well). The Lord of the Rings is my Star Wars, while the Marvel movies are a lot of other people's Star Wars or Lord of the Rings. It's that thing that gets you into movies and that inspires you. Star Wars was the shit in the 80's. In the early 2000's it was The Lord of the Rings. And now it is the MCU.

Plus no one ever mentions the most important scene in the entire saga, where Luke looks away from his dead aunt and uncle and then looks back with such intent and conviction, THAT was the singular moment where the greatest protagonist in movie history makes the turn to become fully invested in a character arc that will propel and influence an entire story to become the greatest three part act of interpersonal development I have ever seen.

This is my favourite movie of all time. From start to finish you are always entertained and there's not one boring moment. The opening crawl is amazing, it has a great deal of mystery and excitement and the music is phenomenal. Everything in the movie is practical (no CGI). All the models look real and the Star Destroyer coming over head had everything right about it from the sound design to the scope. No-one has seen anything like this before. All the characters are introduced perfectly with just visuals and great directing. C-3PO and R2-D2 have great chemistry, two characters that can talk and can't is great with chemistry. Tunisia is perfect for Tatooine and it feels just like a desert planet and the Lars Homestead is such and iconic design. We see Luke grow through out the movie and grow as a character. Binary Sunset scene is perfect, the music, the lighting, the visuals, everything is just simply inspiring. The Force is a great mystical energy religion and Alec Guinness is perfect as Ben Kenobi and everything he explains is awesome! Mos Eisley is a nice simple place. It feels lived in and messy which is what it should be! The cantina is brilliant, the music is iconic but the puppets in it are great, people put their heart and souls into all of these and it feels great to think that! Were introduced to the cocky badass Han Solo who is the coolest character ever and Chewbacca is amazing and you can feel the friendship between them. When Han shoots Greedo we know what kind of character he really is. The Millennium Falcon has a great design and it feels so real!!! Everything in the Falcon is great, we learn something new about every character. Han is witty and we learn more about the Force. The Death Star is phenomenal and when they're approaching it it's intense. The rescue of Princess Leia is phenomenal too, it's funny, full of action and for a story's purpose and when the four characters, Luke, Han, Leia and Chewie come together the chemistry is just the best! The lightsaber duel has such a great impact and it's for the story's purpose. And seeing the lightsaber is so exciting and Obi-Wan's death is very sad. The Battle of Yavin's effects are great and still hold up today! But when Han Solo comes back to save Luke, he is redeemed from a low life smuggler to a faithful man fighting for his friends. The Death Star explodes and it pays off greatly. The Throne Room scene has the best music and cinematography and it's very great and then it just ends. But the best part is that no one had hope for this film. George Lucas put everything into this film and when it came out it shocked everyone even George Lucas. It is still alive today 40 years later. And that is why Star Wars is my favourite movie of all time!

I actually have a theory why the lightsaber duel wasn’t the greatest. In the prequel timeline, the technology and fighting was more elegant. Like Obi Wan said “An elegant weapon for a more civilized age” The Jedi combat style was more popular and easier to teach at those times. But after Order 66, there were only a few Jedis left. And both Obi Wan and Darth Vader grew older. Vader’s skills wasn’t that great because he had a tight suit and robotic limbs that slows him. You can actually detect it in the Rogue One scene. Compare it to Hayden’s Anakin. And Obi Wan grew old and he wasn’t as fit as he used to be in his prime. So all of it makes perfect sense.
@Gadget-Walkmen
@Gadget-Walkmen 2 жыл бұрын
@@_CPP_ Nothing about what you said makes sense. That doesn't add up at all because Vader moved better in empire and return of the jedi MUCH better than in New Hope. Rogue one doesn't "detect" anything of him growing older. Vader moves even as good as you would have expected. Don't even know where your coming from with that claim. And jedi combat style isn't done to be "popular" it's done for survival. And having few jedi left doesn't mean anything because luke was still able to move fast and agile as any jedi would. And being "old" doesn't matter nor slow you down as you might think compared to a jedi/sith's prime seeing how agile Yoda, Sidious, and especially Count Dooku who were all old as hell but moved in high speeds due to the force amplifying their abilities. So no, Obiwan "grew old" and not being in they're prime isn't much of an excuse especially since dooku was older and moved far better than he ever did. No it doesn't make "perfect sense" from your point of view that your trying to say. Just chalk it up to two old dudes who were making a lazer sword fight for the first time and didn't know how to manage it properly intill the sequel made it even better.

Star Wars: A New Hope’s one of the best movies imo, it means a lot to me, and it kicks off one of the best franchises of all time. I loved everything about it, and it has tons of rewatch value. Positives: The acting, story, soundtrack, VFX, cinematography, action sequences, humorous moments, the fun vibe, production value, rewatch value, characters, and ending. Negatives: No negatives really, but I’d list that it gets dethroned by Empire Strikes Back.

There's one small thing in one scene in this one. When C-3PO is talking about R2's hologram of Leia, he says he doesn't know for sure who it is. Earlier when the rebel ship was being boarded, C-3PO said "There'll be no escape for the princess this time" so he definitely knows who she is. Later in the hologram scene, he recalls that his last mast was Capt. Antilles, so he should be able to recall who she is. And he isn't covering it up for her, because he tell R2 that Luke can be trusted. Again, it's a small thing, but it kinda bugs me.

Star Wars is an amazing film (one of my favorites of all time), but this video in comparison to his reviews of the prequel trilogy (where he nitpicks every little detail) demonstrates how rosy retrospection and nostalgia can easily poison objectivity. For example, he ardently defends the terribly choreographed and awkward lightsaber battle between Darth Vader and Obi Wan Kenobi in A New Hope (which was entertaining for the time) and then go ahead and picks apart some of the prequel lightsaber battles (Obi Wan vs. Anakin and Obi Wan/Qui Gon vs. Darth Maul) that were masterly executed.
@tezmard3003

Masterly? It looked as though the fight was choreographed which is the opposite of what it is meant to do, secondly all the details he mentions in the prequel reviews deserve to be nitpicked as they're genuinely bad

***** Bro, opinions on movies are subjective. Obviously you are in the minority with yours. The dialogue in the original Star Wars may not be the greatest of all time. In fact, cast members were laughing about it when they were making the film. Now people quote these lines all over. You may think it's bad dialogue but that doesn't change the fact that it was a hit that no one saw coming.

***** People defend A New Hope because it's widely viewed as a great film, not because of nostalgia. I mean you can't really stand Vader next to someone like Hannibal Lecter and have him be taken as seriously, take him out of his universe and he seems a lot less intimidating. Also, he's kind of the emperors bitch and his motivations aren't terribly strong in the context of the original movies. "evil = power, therefore I am evil" mixed with "'cause the boss said so". That all being said I still love him as a villain.

+Johan Öberg (Protoman85) You can tell that version in use was Harmy's Despec version, since the color coding is way different compared to blu-ray. I spotted immediately that it was the version used. Harmy's version uses A LOT of different sources to gather one definite original version. You can find a lot of information about the project on KZfaq and the originaltrilogy -site. The Harmy's version is not perfect though, there are some slight problems with it but overall it's very very good considering the formats used to combine the final product (LaserDisc, blu-ray, still images, different film prints and so on...) mixed with a different type of image processing tools.
