I like the narrative choice of how they moved away from the typical trope of "Fire dude is wild and crazy" and instead went with a more pensive, measured character.

Similarly with water usually being the calm one but was the most unhinged simple minded "lets fight things!" guy. And the earth being the more floaty and "magic caster", not fighting directly but with minions whilst air one was pretty brawny and showed to have quite the brute strength in her attacks.

fun info (didn't see it mentioned going through the stream), not only was Hyadain a guest composer who got their start on youtube parodies like the superchat mentioned, but his parody of the FF4 Four Fiends theme was one of his especially-known ones. The Rubicante song in FF14 is actually based off of his parody version, not the FF4 version, because it contains the bell instruments that are direct references to the parody (and don't show up in the original).
@cnkclark
@cnkclark Ай бұрын
Don't know if it was mentioned, but they also brought in the original story writer for FFIV to write the lyrics for Hyadain's remix for this Trial, and he gave them an intentional operatic flair.

21:00 You can't die on the 13th, because "death" in FFXIV happens when your aether returns to the aether flow (big aether river inside the star). The 13th is separated from the flow, so your aether just kinda fluffs about for a while before resurrecting somewhere on the 13th, because it couldn't find the river. You could still die on the 1st, because the 1st was still connected to the river. That's why sin-eaters still die unlike void-sent. Ascians are immortal because they can control where their Aether goes when their body dies, so they just straight up choose not to rejoin the great flow until they want to. In fact, Elpis touches on this, how Ascians choose when they return to the star. This is also how Zenos resurrected in Stormblood. Weaker characters will get washed away in the flow of Aether (like Y'shtola was... twice). But Zenos was literally strong enough to fight the flow and "swim" his way out until he could find a new body to inhabit. Zenos talks about this experience (I think in the Garlemald section) of the MSQ. Man loved the challenge, and rekindled his will to fight you again. It's not talked about a lot, but teleportation in FFXIV is kinda dangerous as hell. You literally ride the river of the underworld, and are ripped out of the river by beacons (Aetheryte's) along the stream. If an Aetheryte is destroyed mid teleportation, or you jump into a river that doesn't lead to a beacon you end up stuck there (like Y'shtola). Oh no, am I a one-guy?

this, and this is also a hint that once defeated, Emet gave up, as he was not put fully into White Auracite, meaning while he tried to win, once he lost, he just let go, as part of him wanted to be proven wrong.

The way I see it, each shard has a lifestream of it's own, otherwise the sundering would have undone itself pretty quickly by itself. But due to the screwup in the first rejoining attempt, the 13th is different in some way. One way that would make sense to me is, that the Ascians successfully managed to drain the lifestream of the 13th into the source, but they failed to draw the at the moment still living beings over too, which resulted in the 13th not having a lifestream anymore and thus no permanent death either. This would also explain why they needed to cause massive catasrophies in the shards they wish to rejoin: They need to make sure that at the moment of transition, every living being, or at least a significant number of them, are all dead, so they are swimming around in the lifestream, when that is drained into the source. Another would be that the lifestream can only work properly, if there is a balance of light and dark. Without the static components of the light aspected elements, the lifestream can't hold any aether and thus it all respawns so fast, that the dead beings retain their selves, where a functioning lifestream keeps the aether long enough for the soul to be broken down into aether and then reformed into new lifeforms.
@keithfilibeck2390
@keithfilibeck2390 Ай бұрын
@@Norbert_Sattler they'd all die anyways when the Shard is basically "Aetherized", the Source literally sucks the Aether in, eliminating that entire pocket dimension.

As I understood it it had more to do with the elemental focus being all darkness and how darkness is the complete opposite of stagnation, which in a balanced sense of life and death darkness quickens rebirth to such an extent it removes death's cycle of separating your aether which takes time or just in a way that the souls don't have time to reach the flow. Meanwhile if the 1st had been consumed by light it'd stagnated the world until everyone remained dead and no life could be reborn, as it'd slow down rebirth until it couldn't happen anymore and everyone would be stuck in a limbo of permanent death or close to it. Or so it should be if following the description and thoughts behind them. But then we use Hydaelyn's magic of light to bring back our allies to life and Endsinger, when you think about it, should've thought to employ light to stop rebirth from happening. It could also just be a thing of them writing themselves in the corner regarding what darkness and light does and play a bit loosely on it, or that there's more aspects to the elements.

I love that Rubicante opens a little portal to his hellscape domain so we can play shapes. 2:31:00 I was so sad when my heart of corundum activated after Kyle had died I wouldn't call what Golbez did "sacrificing the archfiends". More like, he's alright with them being defeated. Though, that may be a distinction without merit. On another note, I wish there had been more buildup with the fiends.

Bit of a dumb-man's cheese for when the inner circle is going to rotate: Go stand where the straight line leads. He always aims down a straight line, with the rotation pushing it to one side or the other. So the fake 'danger' spot is safe.

The trash pulls after the 2nd boss in the Tower of Zot are some of the hardest in the game for any healer/tank combination. I've done them wall to wall with all those jobs, and failed more often than not.
@drayman101
@drayman101 Ай бұрын
The whole "You pull, you tank thing" is a weird topic in the community... technically, having that mentality and voicing it as such in-game is against TOS and is reportable (as lethargic gameplay/not fulfilling the requirements of your role as tank, which is simply: hold aggro for the party and contribute some damage). I personally don't mind if I'm tanking or healing and DPS intentionally pull more mobs into the group, unless the the DPS are being asses about it; and I actually appreciate it if they're using Arms Length and their own personal mit/heal cooldowns to help the tank/healer manage a bigger pull... but it took me quite a while to even know that this what some players were doing, rather than taking it upon themselves that the entire party should play their way and move faster, as I had always assumed. Don't get me wrong, some players DO act that way, but they're usually easy to recognize. Like most things in the game, a little communication usually clears it right up.

Y'all shoulda done the role quests as soon as they unlocked which I think was after Vanaspati? Correct me if I'm wrong. At that point in the story you're deep into the blasphemies, final days, horrific suffering of the people gotta save them mindset. But then you go to Elpis and suddenly all that stuff is furthest from your mind. 56:26 Kyle gets it. 57:10 Yeah, I get it. Best time I think would've been the instant you met the folks, before you went to meet the Scions and G'raha namedropped Elidibus. After that you just get carried away. 1:00:55 Hythlo, Azem, and Emet, the three musketeers. 1:35:30 Just so long as it doesn't play that horribly depressing rendition of the Garlean main theme. 2:32:15 Yeah, that thing is FAST.
