Hey stephen actually did save Jon, (S) og prismary command was on the stack, targeting jetmir, then everyone else got a copy, (jon) resolved his copy jetmir took two damage, then (S) copied the command, (jon) dealt 2 damage to jetmir(at 4 damage), then (S) second command would go off dealing the final 6th damage to jetmir, does it matter who deals the final damage?

@@CoreyBMTG maskwood is insane with her. You could have attacked with all your creatures (getting treasures cause they’re all dwarves). Then sacced the 10 treasures to tutor 2 dragons, but with maskwood everything in your deck is a dragon. That would have fulfilled the kithkins XD

I wish I could be smart and say Stephen would get the extra point since his first Prismari command hadn't resolved yet, which would have been the last 2 damage. Removing the double strike and trample saved all of them.

When The Ozolith has counters on it, all of them have to be put onto the same target creature. You can't split them between multiple creatures.

I’m on team no point for Corey. Dir. told him it works like the party mechanic. Plus if it didn’t then it could be fulfilled by having any 4 creatures (one of which is legendary), the ring, and maskwood nexus, which would’ve been waaaay too easy.

There is NO WAY Corey's getting a point for completing his hidden role! As Stephen said and as it seems Dan stressed numerous times, Corey'd need one of each creature type INCLUDING the four halflings/kithkin, just like party as you say. It would make no sense at all for him to get a point for his role!

Hard disagree, due to the actual wording on the Hidden Roll itself. It should have said: you must control a legendary human wizard and a legendary human warrior and a legendary dwarf and a legendary elf and 4 separate kithkin or halflings and the ring of 3 wishes. However, it didn't say that and based on the wording of the actual Hidden Roll he did only need 4 creatures, the Nexus, and the ring so I think it's entirely fair he gets the point. Sure, it isn't in the spirit of what was trying to be conveyed, but strictly speaking he fulfilled the requirements.

i would argue stephen should get the point for saving jon as it was actually his prismari command that killed jetmir, if you follow how things would resolve the 3rd set of 2 damage to put the 6th damage to kill jetmir would actually have been stephen's original prismari command, it wasn't jon's, therefore, stephen saved jon

I think Corey should have gotten the point for his hidden role. His hidden role card was not specific enough. The one last week literally said Changelings don't count, this one should have said something to the same effect. I'm sure his deck would have been built slightly different if it had.

I really like the hidden roles episodes, makes for a fun deck building challenge and entertaining watch. And while this time they were a bit more challenging than in the past, they were still very much doable and quite interesting imo. Well done, director Dan!

Btw this is probably my favorite kind of deckbuilding process where you’re all still building your decks competently and trying to win but trying to do something specific. Back when you were doing the gimmicky builds I hated it IE: all skeletons

Army of the damned any plus +1/+1. Rise of the Dread Marn as a back up with any sack outlet. That's 39! Fun episode. These hidden role's always tend to be weird and wacky.

I maintain that Stephen completed his first roll. It said ten permanents with different mana values not different converted mana values. A card that costs 3G and a card that costs 2GG have different mana values but the same converted mana value.

In Corey’s defense, his last hidden role specifically said that he couldn’t use changelings while this one did not. Also this hidden role was to assemble the fellowship of the ring but it only requires one human when there are two humans in the actual fellowship.

Not that it mattered cause it resolved the way it should have but the Prismari Command Jetmir "technically" wouldn't have had the 2 Damage from Steven's yet since it hadn't been resolved yet when they had the discussion of fizzling.

I am a little confused. With prismari command and hivemind, I think they killed jetmir a little early. It was targeted three times, first by Steven, and then by John on his first and then second command. So jetmir would've been the last thing to die, since it was the first thing to he targeted and by the last spell to resolve? Or did I miss something? And if this means Steven original spell finished jetmir, does that count as saving John?

Going for hidden roles is neat, but I would also like to see the hidden role be essential for victory. If you strike a killing blow, but have not fulfilled your role, you should instantly lose, and the killing blow is reversed. That might encourage yall to really commit to the role, instead of just salt the deck with a strategy that has a low chance of succeeding.

Jonathan should have put in helm of the host in and put it on a levelling creature and then he could of leveled a copied token as well, also any copy creature would have worked as well etc

Your next randomonium should be Shard-based. Each player gets assigned a random shard and can only play cards from Shards of Alara and New Capenna.

I think it'd have been better to have the commanders be random, and then let the hidden roles be tied to those. I also feel like Jeremy should have gone for a life gain deck I'm order to get his hidden role. Serra's Avatar would be pretty useful.

Honestly, Corey, as an aspiring fantasy author and lover of the genre, I respect the fact that you're bold enough to voice that opinion about the lord of the rings. I obviously disagree, but still. They certainly have their faults, but I urge you to reconsider them. If not the works themselves then for their influence on the genre and media in general.

As much as these are difficult, if they could check off multiple roles per creature all you would need is any 4 creatures with one being legendary. Nexus would auto fill the rest. Too cheezy for me when the goal is clever deckbuilding. The idea was 8 unique creatures with the correct typing. He was barely short one creature.

Watching how little Corey actually understands how cards work actually scares me when you think about how often he has won tournaments in our ‘skill’ game that is MTG. Director actually explained to him BEFORE they started how he would need to complete his role, how each creature could only count as one thing, otherwise all you would need is one creature/a every type modifier/ring of three wishes. He explained it before hand… and he still screwed it up. And before the apologist jump in and say ‘well he’s new to Commander and secret roles’….stop! Because that secret role uses the EXACT same rules as Party mechanic, which is a current mechanic in MTG. THEN they ALL explained to him that all he needed was a couple more creatures to fulfill his role, and he says ‘well there goes my role, I didn’t put any Kithkin in here’ /sigh…. Not to mention that Sylvala ‘isn’t very good’ comment…gooood grief. Any chance at all Justin Parnell has stabilized his family situation yet…

Corey shouldn’t be punished for poor rules templating - magic is a game of rules as written, not as intended. Putting the word “distinct” in the text would have done a lot of work.
