People wanting it 20' deep don't know anything about ponds. That would just put a bunch of dead water on the bottom that would turn over and cause fish kills. 8-10' is plenty deep.

Strip pits and limestone quarries here have up to 50 feet of water in them ., really great fishing and no kills that I've ever seen. Kills come when vegetation dies with ice and snow on top all winter. With no light, rotting vegetation sucks oxygen up.

That’s crazy cause my pond is 20’ deep in the center and we have no dead fish, ever. You sure you know a lot about ponds?
@stephenkeefer3436

I know of at least one old limestone quarry in Pennsylvania that no one really knows how deep it is. ( over 100 feet for certain) cold spring fed. No turn over. But then with constant water movement spring water in , stream out, I guess there wouldn’t be any turn over. It has some HUGE brook trout in it too.

Never heard of that, plenty of 20’ deep ponds up here and they usually have pretty big catfish in them.

Chris gets tired of the clearing too!! That roller looks to be in really good condition. Someone took good care of it. Gotta be the last piece of equipment Chris really needed to round out his pond building inventory. Tickled me pink to get a notice he's starting the pond build after that long laborous stump pulling torture he endured. It almost seemed like he'd never get that done at one piont. Thanks Chris for some Saturday afternoon entertainment.

Always find it kind of funny that some people keep telling you what they think you should do with the pond, like digging it deeper, ignoring the fact that you have been doing this for 20 years. You know what you're doing, and if you you're doing something for some reason, it's because experience has told you that it's what will work best for that particular situation and location.

So that is pretty much one third of the pond dam if I am seeing it correctly. That is much faster than I expected it to go. I know that there is a lot more time involved in putting it the overflow structure and hitting final grade and such, but you really put this much up fast. Then of course there are the clean up details and the dirt moving for that upper hillside across the pond near the head. Love seeing a plan come together like this. So glad that roller worked out for you. Kind of scary having a new piece of equipment that the whole plan counts on to perform, so it is good when it does. As always thanks for bringing us along.
