Hey laura and aaron.. i’m a doctor from india who loves to garden in spare time. Before i found your channel i was mainly interested in houseplants. But when I discovered your channel through your vegetable garden tour, my whole perspective changed. I now have a flourishing vegetable garden with many flowers in my terrace. And buying seeds for the next season has never been so fun. Thank you so much for all that you do❤️

I have perennial mountain mint in my garden, Laura you’re going to LOVE it. It is ALWAYS covered in the most beautiful array of pollinators. For me it draws butterflies, swallowtail and monarch, several kinds of bumble bees, humming bird moths, and the most gorgeous iridescent wasps (friendly) I have every seen. I wish I could post a photo. It has precious disc like flowers and it holds its height through the winter. You can smell it as you walk by in the summer without having to brush up on it and it holds itself in a vase for weeks. It doesn’t seem to spread as wildly for me as regular mint and it’s easy to just cut back a big bunch to control it.

Laura, there is an amazing plant I’ve never seen you discuss, Lemon Verbena , I grow it here in Komoka Ontario Canada, zone 6 and it smells heavenly, I grow it in a large pot as it gets quite large , as an annual. Would be a plant to consider for “ the Hartley” as you brush by it it smells so lemony and not an obnoxious lemon smell, check it out!

Beckie, we grow it each year to make a winter tisane comprised of dried lemon grass, lemon verbena, lemon thyme and dried orange peel. Sometimes we add organic black tea. We keep this in an airtight container in the frig. When feeling like we may be coming down with something we brew it up with fresh ginger and honey. Since this has dried lemon grass, it is best to put 1-2T in a twist tied coffee filter (shot of whiskey optional).

I grow it too. When I bring it in the house for the winter it drops leaves and looks pitiful but I know that outside in the summer it gets so strong and healthy. It loves water. It's almost like it's always thirsty. I love the long branches hang down. I often find myself untangling them.

This will be my 3rd year winter sowing & I love it!!! I usually plant anywhere from 30-40+ jugs. We are in planting zone 4b, as a precaution due to weather I’ve learned to put a marker on the inside of each jug just in case the weather fades my outer labels. I’ve used all various sorts of containers but my best results have been with the milk/water jugs as they hold more soil & moisture. I usually do multiple plantings according to the cold tolerance of each seed type. My favorite is to plant lavender this way & many of my flowers like Daisys, Scabiosa, Snapdragons, Flowering Kale which I start in Feb. I start all my cabbage family plants this way too. The less hardy seeds like tomatoes, peppers, squash etc. I put out in March. I was skeptical too the first year but I’ve always had good results & this method saves me a ton of space & time.In our area because we get allot of moisture I do sprinkle cinnamon on top of the soil in each container to control fungus plus good drain holes in the bottom are essential. I use a plastic drill bit to create my holes or a hot screw driver will easily melt holes for drainage. Thank you for keeping us inspired, I always learn something new or get creative ideas from your show❣️

Omg my parents lived in South America for awhile. We moved back when I was 8. When you showed that snail vine I almost cried! I adored those. I will definitely be placing an order with bakers creek soon! Funny how sentimental we can be about random objects.

I have tried this method 2 years in a row with no luck. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong but I'm going to try it again because it just looks so simple and, Laura, yours alway turn out so well. Instead of getting frustrated that I don't have good luck you motivate me to keep on trying. Thank you for always being inspirational!

Laura, I am so excited to see the mix of native wildflowers you will be growing this year! Arrowleaf Balsam root, milkweeds, lupine, gillia, larkspurs! 🤩There truly is nothing better we can do as gardeners to support local wildlife and insects. It will be beautiful to see your landscape support local ecology with a blend of natives, edibles, and ornamentals. I'd love to see how other eastern Oregon native plants like camas, goldenrod, or blanket flower would look in your garden. Very excited to watch the progress!

I just love starting seeds this way. I have for years and find it so rewarding. One thing worth mentioning about the Baker Creek seeds is that they are heirloom seeds and sometimes don’t have quite the germination rate as hybrid seeds do. I live very close to Baker Creek and have visited and purchased several types of seeds and tubers from them. They really have some nice stuff.

Hey ya'll, North Florida here. I used the winter sowing method last year. I also started seeds indoors under grow lights. The gallon jug winter sowing method was superior for us. Rain was just right and just watched them grow. Love watching Benjamin and Samantha grow along with your ventures. Glad to watch Aaron in front of the camera too. Not bad to look at!

I found GA this time last year and have enjoyed it much. As I watched you do winter sowing I never considered doing it, but I saw the milkweed you were sowing and changed my mind. I loved your beautiful butterfly garden last summer and my 9 year old grandson decided we most definitely should try that this year! So I will surprise him with the WS of the milkweed (He spends his summers with us in Zone 6 b) and maybe some other plants I can find for the garden. Thanks Laura.

I wish you guys had a watering guidebook. This is my downfall. I over water under water and kill lots of plants. I know it is a huge gray area with all the variables, but golly! I need a ball park guide to all species indoor and outdoor. I am always a nervous wreck about watering and sure enough I manage to usually kill my poor plants. Thank you for the joy you bring me each morning😊

I spent yesterday going through drawers and organizing, last night going through all the notes I’ve taken while watching GA and other webinars. Now I need to organize my seeds from last year and order more. You definitely have influenced me to be more organized and excited about the new growing season when I need it the most. Thanks for the inspiration 😊

Hi Laura, I watch these winter sowing videos every year and still haven’t tried it, but I’ve remembered I have a lot of beautiful poppy seeds I didn’t get around to sowing last year, so I’m going to save all my milk jugs from now on and definitely give it a try this time round. Your snow looks beautiful ❄️
