There is no driver shortage. There is a shortage in pay for drivers. If drivers were compensated correctly for the work they do drivers wouldn't leave the industry right after they start.

The driver shortage is a myth. There is a shortage of pay.

And also a shit ton of garbage you go through before you drive an inch. They bring it on yourselves.

Just a shortage of drivers that no longer want to spend their life in a sweatshop on wheels for half of what they should be paid for leaving their family's.

Better off fixing trucks than driving. Shortage of honest, well paying companies, that’s the real problem lol.

Driver Shortage? It's over saturated. That's why the Freight rates are at a all time low. The Greed of These Broker Firms is the untold BIGGEST PROBLEM.

The best part is, there was never really a shortage of drivers, just shortage of drivers willing to take the "worse" job openings. But now... the baby boomer truckers are retiring quickly and because of the unwillingness to raise the driver pay in the last 20 years, very few young people are becoming truck drivers. In a few years we will see what a "real" driver shortage looks like.

How many drivers do you think they will need in the near future

@@birdtalks8201 Employment for drivers will probably remain the same until they perfect the Autonomous truck along with adjacent infrastructure, that could be 20 to 30 years away. Then the numbers will decline, but when that happens there will be a mass exodus of drivers and basically an elimination of trucking training schools, so if you're already a experienced driver you'll still remain employed.

If a professional truck driver can't make money at their profession they will just "sit" on their skills , and do something else!!

I agree....but what in your opinion is the problem?
@michaelashcraft8569

@@Imagemakerstudios As a retired 40 yr trucker large companies haul "secondary" freight unnecessarily. The current average at a good Brokerage firm is $1.42 pm while seconday and below is .65 to .78 cpm, and, large companies will cut that price just to corner the market on freight. Go with a company that deals with private brokers rather than the "freight salespeople" hired by large trucking companies to increase driver pay.

When you start seeing drivers who look and smell homeless there's a problem. Give enough homeless people CDL'S then there will be no reason to raise cpm. Drop the age from 21 to 18 for drivers cpm will also stay the same. Many drivers don't even consider calculating. If you drive OTR and make anything less than $1,300 a week you are really making making $17 a hour. Complete BS and let's not go into the 1099 situation. What about taxes??? I came up with the $17 a hour number because I multiplied 17x11. 11 is your daily drive time. Now take your answer and multiply that by 7 which is your seven days a week.

Driver shortage is a myth / propaganda promoted by ATA (American Trucking Association). ATA does not represent trucking industry as a whole it represents major corporations only however huge number of trucks are owned and operated by individuals or small to medium companies that are not represented by ATA. We have too many drivers but we do have shortage of drivers willing to work for nothing.
