This video talks about Stationeers while being a (superficial) beginner introduction on Europa in Easy mode. Intended audience is (very patient) outsiders unaware of the incredible phenomenon that Stationeers is:
It's like a first person adventure game, except the story is emergent from needs and deep simulation of technology (e.g. liquid boiling off into gas will have a cooling effect - there are actual phase change diagrams in the game).
It's like a farming simulator, except air pressure, gas mixture, temperature, light duration have to be within reason. But don't worry, Stationeers strikes the right balance between realism and gamification. However, YOU WILL HAVE TO LEARN - NOT A CASUAL GAME!
It's like a shooter, except exploding things aren't rockets and grenades, they're overfilled furnaces, tanks, and canisters - and your enemies are time, resources, and blunders. The flamethrower is your furnace chimney - when the simulation calls for it. Like when your pipes moan when over-pressured. When your ingots and loose items fly towards you when your airlock uses explosive decompression. When your station walls take damage because you had high indoor air pressure and then the furnace chimed in and expanded the room's gasses with its incredible heat. When your plants are not doing well, because you left the grow light on instead of letting them chill out for some time. When you begin to suffocate because some harmless nitrogen was also in your oxygen tank, but you forgot to add nitrogen filters to your spacesuit ... for which you can use the wasteful "flush" feature every once in a while. Or maybe you just forgot to turn on your spacesuit's individual devices.
It's equally unjustified the word "game" is to be used for Stationeers like used for Doom, as it is to use the word "child" referring to a 17yo and also to a toddler.
You will have to adapt. Most complaints refer to the user interface, which could surely use some love, but don't forget: It allows extremely complex interactions with the 3D world in an easy way - which does require an unconventional approach.
No engineering degree required to play Stationeers, but you'll have to have your wits together, you will need to train. Multitasking shouldn't be beyond you, and a scientific mindset will either be useful ... or will be the outcome. Speaking of benefits: Can you program? No? Well, depending on how deeply you get into Stationeers, you'll be able to "afterwards" (there's no afterwards). Yep, there's an in-game source code editor allowing you to write assembly programs: As simple as turning the lights on when it's night or keeping the solar panels pointed at the sun - and as complex as controlling an advanced furnace's pressure&temperature or building custom airlocks. Choice is yours! Every device has data/logic, and whether/how you weave this into your space adventure is up to you!
Tutorials are Arma style: Pick your topic, run the training course, apply your knowledge in the "real" world. The first half of your leveling-up happens via intelligent functional station construction and some upgrading. The other half is the persistent meta-progression that you can not reset: Your brain, your understanding. This journey can only be taken once, don't let anyone take this ABSOLUTELY UNIQUE experience away from you (e.g. don't watch too many videos).
Was inspired by Space Station 13 but is making its own way. Multiplayer is great fun but is a bit buggy. Singleplayer doesn't have problems running multi-hour sessions without anything going wrong despite the HUGE complexity of the game loop.
Still Early Access, already more stable and bug free than most finished games, thousands of hours of UNIQUE entertainment, a real station building and simulation experience, and every month things change slightly ... or drastically ... due to constant updates: The RocketWerkz team for this game is really active - and responsive on Discord. So, hop in - join the experience while it's still mutating. Been playing Beta for months now - no regrets: At least once a week something tangibly new. Don't miss out!

I agree with what you said in the beginning. I crave that new games take steps forward, bring more to the table,like atmosphere , pressure , gases, destructive environment etc . More immersion!

helllo, i subscribe to your channel couple week ago and i like watch your videos..btw im agree with you about stationeers...ive play with it so many hours-and yes its a great simulation, my job its plumber and when i try stationeers for first run my mind blow out, no limits, u think u build thats all u can do.....we hope get some good stuff as nuclear ..some sewr stuff and the.... .. my real problem are pc and fps..15k things i barely keep at 20 fps but i cant stop hahha..good job around your video..keep it up and thank you..sorry for bad english..i am from italy....

Thank you, kind Sir! - High amount of things = low FPS? You can try a few things: Reboot computer before playing, to make sure there's no programs (e.g. browser) that use CPU, because the game is very processing heavy. You can also make sure that there are no overlays (e.g. Overwolf) - it could also help to close Discord (make sure it's actually *closed*, so e.g. use the Task Manager to kill it). If none of that helps, try killing the power in your base so that there's no lights - just for performance testing. And you could turn off shadows or turn down rendering distance.

I wish I could use that seed of Europa you rolled. That is the flattest terrain I’ve seen of Europa! An idea for a tutorial vid is how to make a manual air lock w/ only the parts the lander provides. Yes it’s possible
@OwnerOfTheCosmos
@OwnerOfTheCosmos Ай бұрын
I wiped my backup-saves once again recently (saving gigabytes), so the oldest save I have of this already has a station with manufacturies. ---- About the manual airlock: Bursting a pipe or just making a "large" volume with them works, but you can't make one that separates TWO atmospheres, because you only have ONE pump. If you're thinking of the manual valves: That works, but it's not a 100% separation. ... Or did you have something else in mind?

@@OwnerOfTheCosmos actually it does work with just one active vent, in a 1x1x1 room with manual hatches at ea ends place active vent to a T pipe (bottom pref) off the top of the T place manual valves. Open/close the respective valves to of the pipe you wana pop, repeat for the other side. Granted to cycle it, you must close both doors and you are in a sense pushing the air from the air lock room into the place you want it to go. It’s time consuming and easy to mess up but it will sustain you until you can get a power set up and when your rdy just replace one door at a time making sure you keep the 2 atmos separated. It’s how I start my Europa playthrus
@OwnerOfTheCosmos
@OwnerOfTheCosmos Ай бұрын
@@charlesheath7571 Well, that works, but that's what I meant: It's not a true separation of two atmospheres, because in the T pipe between vent and valves, there will never be a vacuum, so it'll mix there.

@@OwnerOfTheCosmos ok I’ll admit it’s not 100% perfect, I just tested it on Europa. /bow

Too bad the other user deleted their comments - which also made my response invisible. Good thing I prepared, because I've been burned like this before, so here's the text: They wished for more planets, ores, for uranium use, for longer days, and maybe even combat, some ship flying&building, hazards and hostile aliens. So I said: Once Stationeers has gone v1.0, I'm sure we'll have missions/objectives and also more planets. I guess a few more ores may come, at least they added "Hydrogen" as a new gas in the Stationpedia, so that's gonna come in the game at some point, probably changing how water can be split or created with the Atmospherics devices. Uranium: Nuclear power is definitely a goal, Dean Hall (Rocket, CEO) said so again yesterday. There were once foes in the game (some creepy crawlers), and there are chicken. I have no clue if such will come back - but one thing (confirmed by devs) that is loosely planned in regards to missions is some kind of hotel-like tasks where you have to create accommodations - such a thing is, after all, already in the game a bit: Some traders need a hangar with their respective atmosphere. Ship-building so far doesn't seem to be on the menu, but this year's terrain overhaul is supposed to not only bring some kind of point-of-interest (Reasons to travel!) situation to the worlds - but also the ability to get from one world to the other (without experiencing an actual flight). Once that has become the new normal ... who knows what's down the road.

what really stops me from enjoying this game is hwo you have to handle your tools between your belt, and hands and so on, way to cumbersome without real hotkeys :/
@OwnerOfTheCosmos
@OwnerOfTheCosmos Ай бұрын
Absolutely true, RocketWerkz has to work on that. E.g. the keys 1..0 for the 10 tool slots of the Mk2 Toolbelt (or 1..8 for the standard one), or possibly better: Bound directly to the tools. Currently, you can double-click something in your inventory (e.g. tool) or in your hand, which will make it jump over to your hand/inventory. But double-clicking is tedious to do all the time. Instead, there's a key in the settings that you can press, but this will affect the inventory/hand slot that's currently mouse-wheel selected. Yesterday, I tried to just press Alt, move the mouse to the slot I liked, and THEN press that hotkey which would be preferrable to double-clicking - but it had no effect. :(

Regarding demos, I have been told by a developer that it is a well documented fact that they just reduce sales. "Vacuum is either hot nor cold." This is not realty true while a vacuum prevents all Conduction solid objects are also subject to Thermal Radiation. While we mostly ignore thermal radiation as the ambient temperatures on earth fall in a fairly similar range they fluctuate far more wildly in space. If you did not die to the pressure differential, I believe that space around earth orbit, when in sunlight would heat you up to about 120C so would feel pretty hot. But without the sun in deep space you would lose about 2C in per ten minutes so would presumably feel like being out and about in winter without a jacket. Something your body can condensate for until it runs out of calories, but a significant cold.
