The Stave Powerhouse, located in Mission BC, is an old Powerhouse that has become a museum. The facility has a lot of exhibits on electricity, green energy, and power generation.
We take a walk through the facility and talk about how it works and the various pieces of machinery involved in the power generation process. Turbines, exciters, transformers, and switch boards are just some of the things to see walking the through the powerhouse.
There is also a Nikola Tesla Coil demonstration, which showcases the technology in action from behind a faraday cage. There are many other interactive displays such as static electricity, a Jacob's ladder, and various other cool forms of electricity.

You really know your stuff. I thought the new generation was completely lost and uneducated, but you have restored my faith. 👍

They turned that in to a really cool museum! Good tour! Large brushless generators still need external power sources for field excitation. Only the smaller gens will have a PMG on them to create their own excitation power to power the AVR for field excitation. There was an OCB, oil circuit breaker, outside in the switchgear area. Not all the green cylinders are transformers. But the interrupters they had hanging inside, showing the internals of the breakers are what is inside the OCB outside. Although the parts on display inside are for higher voltage OCBs, the OCB outside is lower voltage, but same principal using oil and interrupters to quench the arc when breaking loads and faults. If it was mounted on a frame and had a tank than can be lowered, it's an OCB. You drop the tank to perform maintenance on the internals. Transformers usually sit flush on the ground and require way more work to detank.
