Village life in the mountains of northern Lebanon is NOT for the faint of heart. In this video, we stay at a guesthouse in one such village, Bcharre, where our host Anthony gives us a glimpse into his admirably self-reliant and innovative way of life. We also take a short drive to the nearby 4,000 year-old Cedars of God forest where I can confidently say we had quite the heavenly experience.

The cedars of God forest has the unique thousands years old Cedars, which is the tree you see on the lebanese flag. Those trees are mentioned in the Bible because those are the trees that our ancestors the pheonicians used to build Solomon temple, in a cooperation between king hiram of tyre (pheonocian ie Lebanese) and king Solomon (King of Jews). You have visited golden history by going there. In addition back during pheonician times, those cedar trees used to reach to Batroun, and the bigger thicker logs were always up on the mountains where you are. The phoenicians traded many of those trees especially with Egyptians, where if one was rich there it was a display of wealth to have the house's front door made of a complete cedar log. The bigger the log, the wealthier the individual. Tens of thousands years of history which unfortunately is rarely taught in Lebanese schools, because after world wars collonialism invented pan arabism and discarded all history in the middle east to group all people under one fake ethnicity 'arabism' wiping rich history from the area so to have dictatorships and easier to control region (think of oil and gas).

Oh my goodness I have to say this was such a phenomenal episode. The way you filmed this the beautiful 4k colors, the sunset look, the atmosphere, I can even smell the fresh air. I love what you brought and ate and tried. Oh how I miss Lebanon so much beyond words. I salute you and thank you for this beautiful episode. Anthony is trying to say Astringent 32:01, not stingy, persimmon come in two types Astringent and none Atsringent. The none astringent you can eat straight from the tree, the astringent persimmon you have to wait unit it is very ripe, if you don't and try too eat it, it gives you a feeling of dry mouth (tart), same with quince it it tart until ripe. Quince is similar texture to pear.

quick Q about bedding..in most videos it s always single beds..are they comfortable? can they provide double beds if asked in advance?
@20CamelsEmily
@20CamelsEmily 2 жыл бұрын
I never had any comfort issues with the single beds in Lebanon. I would say that it's hard to predict whether the guesthouse/hotel has single or double beds, so best to ask beforehand and work it out with the host if you'd like a change. I find Lebanese people to be very reasonable and they'll try to work with you however they can, but if they don't have a double bed available you'd just have to settle for the single (or look for another place). I guess, in conclusion, it's kind of a case-by-case scenario best worked out beforehand with the host!
