I think your fencing videos must be the best out there. The slow motion is a fantastic thing and the people doing the fencing seem to be very skilled.

Nathan Hunt glad you like it :) I spend a lot of time trying to think of the best way to edit these, always validating when people notice the effort. - Julian (the editor)

Blood and Iron HEMA The replay after the slo-mo is also really helpful as are the red point circles and the yellow miss circles. I think commentary can sometimes be distracting and that all makes it easy enough to follow so that commentary isn't necessary.

I like how fast all these moves are and the outcomes of these fights are decided in a matter of seconds ❤️

Love it, these guys are moving a lot faster than what I see in most HEMA videos and it's great.

1:51 The advantages of being short! In HEMA where there's so many tall people, Lee Smith is an inspiration to us shorter fighters! Awesome!

As a fantasy writer, I appreciate these videos more then some others because of the style and aggression. RL sword fighting is a extremely taxing and precise art. As a writer that doesn't serve my purposes. These videos though combine technique with flair. No disrespect to HEMA. I'm a classic The Hero and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon guy.

Great videos, love the work you guys do. The intensity is great, your students obviously take their art seriously 💥 I was wondering: does anyone get injured? You can tell that the safety equipment is necessary with how hard they're going at each other, but it looks like a whack to the head could still hurt. What's the most likely and the most serious injury you guys run the risk of sustaining? Just from watching the videos it seems unlikely you'd reach this level of skills without taking a hard knock or two.

The longsword sparring has been my favorite so far. I always like seeing Kevin fight as he is a smaller frame like myself, the dude is quick on his feet.

Glad you're enjoying the sparring :) It's funny how these get less views considering how sparring is among Skallagrim's more popular videos, where people constantly ask for more :P

Certainly! I love your channel and what you stand for. Although you both cover sparring, I think the audiences are different. A lot of your subscribers seem to practice HEMA and appreciate the techniques you cover. As evident by your patreon follower content. The one thing that I would love to see more on the channel is spear and halberd sparring/techniques, good ones are hard to come by. Cheers, keep up the great work!

Damn, I love longsword fighting/sparring to death, but unfortunately there's no HEMA dojo nearby, nor do I have the funds to join one... Guess I'll stick with my... well, my stick. Literally :P

I really like the idea of the third replay (a repeat normal-speed following the slo-mo), but can you guys add a slight gray-tone or something to it in order to visually distinguish between this reply and the continuance of the footage? Of course, this is assuming that you'll do this again.

In many videos that I saw, there was a big emphasis on binding of long swords followed by execution of some thrusting or cutting counter-attack. But when it comes to sparring, it is mostly fast cutting or knocking attacks. Can you comment on this, please?
@quakeSanchez
@quakeSanchez 4 жыл бұрын
If a good crossing (or bind) occures it means that both opponents are close enough to get hit without making another step. It's a very dangerous palce to be when fighting without armor. It means that you have to be both quick and precise when doing those techniques. One needs a lot of training to use those in sparring. Any mistake can result in your defeat or a double hit. It becomes even harder when your opponent fails to think of their own safety and leaves the bind to simply cut again. Also, while the advanced techniques are great, one should never underestimate the basics, such as a good cut while retreating to safety. If you can make a good attack and stay safe, you probably should. While I'm fond of training extra-hard, challenging myself and trying new things out, you simply can't do that all the time.

Nice! Do you fight with afterblows?
@BloodandIronHEMA
@BloodandIronHEMA 6 жыл бұрын
derFaust We do, but it also depends on where the initial targets are. We'll be much more critical on an afterblow performed on a body shot, because there's a lot that can go wrong with those. But if you destroy a vital structure, such as the arm, head, or parts of the leg, we'll be a little dismissive of them as it's almost impossible to deliver a proper cut if said structure is destroyed. (That's not to say we ignore afterblows, not at all. They're very important to learn from)

As much as this foot work is fine for HEMA anyone coming from a IMCF or ACL group is probably cringing right now. In live steel these guys would find themselves in the floor pretty quick if they walked like that

Would you have a video to showcase that kind of footwork you're talking about?
@RandomAllen
@RandomAllen 6 жыл бұрын
Well you guys aren't trying to cut with swords, just beat up people in armor with them. There's footwork for cutting and there's footwork for I'm going to use the sword as blunt steel bar and beat someone up with it in armor. I mean it's not like being hit with a sharp sword on your unprotected body can do any damage, everyone knows medieval swords used blunt over heavy dull swords and just started beating people with them

Man i wish tv shows like game of thrones based their fight choreographies on hema, it would look so much better and epic, will the day ever come when medieval fights in shows or movies stops doing that hollywood spinning and jumping nonsense?
