Westmoreland County, which includes Monessen, is one of Pennsylvania's democratic strongholds. But in November 2016, it went red for Trump.

What I didn't foresee is how much of a national disgrace Trump would be and how he is so good at stirring up hate between Americans. Absolutely shameful. My hope is he pays dearly for the unethical unlawful actions he and his family have continued to be involved in. No man is above the law... World energy consumption for electricity generation by source was coal at 40.8%, natural gas at 21.6%.. the rest are insignificant. the US is the same.. 40%. coal is cheaper than all other energy sources , except hydro. The only reason it went out of favor is because of ridiculously high carbon standard set up/ followed by the Obama administration....it has cost the US hundreds of billions of dollars so far. Obama tried to force the US to stop using cheap coal , because of the carbon it produces. ...He destroyed a needed and strategic energy source in the US to play environmentalist , all the while every other major country in the world was still using it / benefiting from it.

The last administration had the right idea in investing and educating people in renewable energy and future technology. Republicans are stuck in the past with their fossil fuel energy and steel production push. Loads of those jobs and industries are never going to be back in the US . While numerous countries are investing and researching in futuristic technologies , republican administrations are shunning scientific knowledge and developments and going with coal mining and dead end industries. My mom faced a similar situation with a job that phased out with the increase of technology and social media. It was hard, but it’s life, and she went on to do something better. While what my mom went through effected many, an entire small town wasn’t reliant upon that profession. I really hope this town can rebuild, but seeing what’s happening, with the nail company and Harley it’s not going to get better because of 45, they will need to fix it in spite of him. Easier said than done I know. It’s also incredibly hard to believe that 45 cares about American jobs when his own products are being made in China still. I really feel for these families and hope the best for them 💔🇺🇸

The majority of coal mining jobs were gone by 1970 and Steel by 1975. It is a myth that there are all these coal miners waiting to go back to work... they would be in their late 60s by now at least. Any idiot who was in HS in the 1970s and decided to be a coal miner is like the guy who bought an 8-track tape player in 1990. I don´t know why we need to ruin our environment to create jobs for people who have been making bad decisions for 40 years. Figure it out guys, learn something new.

You really don't have a clue. Steel was booming until about 1980 and then a number of things killed the US steel industry. Coal was rocking for decades longer. As for ruining the environment, do you drive a car? That's made so steel and steel and coal is an important factor in steel production. How do you power your computer? Coal. We want the trappings of modern life without the unpleasantness that gives us those trappings.

millieo Exactly. Trump admitted on video that he used Chinese steel for his building projects. He also manufactured goods in China and Mexico such as his ties and clothing, essentially not hiring any Americans and paying foreigners crap wages. He also, took advantage of corporate loopholes to evade taxes and created a fake university preying on the poor. Yet these supporters just shut down their brains and hoped for the best because "emails are scary and fox told me so." The country could have progressed with more education for the poor, and training in fields regarding renewable resources.

You know what, I feel bad for these people. It's easy to tell them to "get with the times" or "move on" but we can't all be scientists or computer programmers. These people had a beautiful life, a bustling town and it's lost, eroded by time, never to return. The Market can be cruel: It doesn't care about you or your dreams, your family, your needs, it just cares about value created. Let's try to extend empathy to others, to understand their pain and motivations. If we don't, how will we move past the divisiveness and build a better country.

Tom Smith I hear you man, it's hard to let go of the past and face what's right in front of you. But times change and people need to change with it. We are a resilient people. I understand the sadness, we grow up thinking that we are going to stay with a company for 50 years and have a pension and all of that used to be true. But those days are gone. And that's not this gentleman's fault. I mean, we have self checkout lines at the grocery store now. We all need to diversify our skillsets because even though the automation and technology are taking over, computers can't do everything. I respect where this man comes from, his struggle, that's why he needs to stop fighting us and join us instead.
@lorenyoung7916 жыл бұрын
Tom is right; the Market is cruel, so it's up to us to be kind. The Market doesn't care about us in any way, so we need to elect *_leaders_* who DO care about people and communities, not *_rulers_* who care only about the bottom line. Even better would be all of us *_becoming_* the leaders we need & not counting on the minions of either faction of the Plutocrat Party. Forget the old saw about charity beginning at home; no one wants charity. *_Solidarity_* begins at home, and is easier to expand. Whoever has ears, let them hear. (Matt 11:15)

But it is because we DO CARE about them and about us that it is so frustrating to see people be so stupid and vote against their own best interests. And in the process, they've dragged us down with them. Despite warnings and pleas, they refuse to listen. Now we have the devil in the White House. Not only will he not bring jobs back, he is a TRAITOR selling us out to Russia! Anyone who knows him knows it's all about him. At what point do people become accountable for their stubborn, pig-headed, racially motivated decisions?
@senam236 жыл бұрын
Tom Smith Don't feel empathy for them. You make a good point: we can't all be scientists. And we don't need to. But we can't remain cavemen, either. All they had to do was "think", for a second. Trump made promises, but he never explained *HOW* he was going to deliver, and they were too dumb to ask or care. And because of that, we all have to deal with him being in power. Their stupidity affects us all. Let them struggle. We all do.
