This makes me so sad for them. I know exactly how they feel. I live in the coal fields of WV and that town resembles all our small towns, and my fellow West Virginians believed him too, and we are no better off than before. Automation has killed manufacturing and tariffs can't fix that.

Not we. I wasn't a sucker. I knew a mediocre businessman with no government experience was only working to gain more popularity for his TV show. Free advertisement as Trump calls it. What I didn't foresee is how much of a national disgrace Trump would be and how he is so good at stirring up hate between Americans. Absolutely shameful. My hope is he pays dearly for the unethical unlawful actions he and his family have continued to be involved in. No man is above the law... Not the richest and certainly not our President and his advisors, etc.

World energy consumption for electricity generation by source was coal at 40.8%, natural gas at 21.6%.. the rest are insignificant. the US is the same.. 40%. coal is cheaper than all other energy sources , except hydro. The only reason it went out of favor is because of ridiculously high carbon standard set up/ followed by the Obama administration....it has cost the US hundreds of billions of dollars so far. Obama tried to force the US to stop using cheap coal , because of the carbon it produces. ...He destroyed a needed and strategic energy source in the US to play environmentalist , all the while every other major country in the world was still using it / benefiting from it.

The neo-libs are as useless as the republicans, and the only way it will change is if we, the people STOP voting for the lesser of 2 corporate owned evils and support the independents that refuse to take corporate money. Look around, there are a lot of real, regular folks getting into the game and primarying the candidates bought and paid for by the elite. Help them any way you can. Now it's gone and so are the communities...we all have to remember times has changed and now we're in the 21st century it's all about computers and technology...back in the days you really worked hard for your money 10 to 12 hours a day in the hot sun came home all stink and sweaty...now days it's sitting in a building staring at a computer with nice clothes on in a air condition building lol...i don't much about computers lol but it's time to learn more because that's the future technology...

People should be looking to the future and embrace it instead of getting shaft by a con man. The world and everything in it changes and evolves so to are jobs and economies. The last administration had the right idea in investing and educating people in renewable energy and future technology. Republicans are stuck in the past with their fossil fuel energy and steel production push. Loads of those jobs and industries are never going to be back in the US . While numerous countries are investing and researching in futuristic technologies , republican administrations are shunning scientific knowledge and developments and going with coal mining and dead end industries. Wake up America your getting left behind bigly.

avalanche344 The US economy is a disaster because of banksters giving loans to people who didn't have the funds or collateral to pay them back and US taxpayers got stuck with bailing out AIG and the same banksters that are now in Drumpf's admin. 17 years of conflict in middle east that started under GOP. You know Dick Cheney was CEO of Halliburton and received $398,500 deferred payment from Halliburton in 2004.

This is really sad, and it’s hard to know what happened to these people, but things change. My mom faced a similar situation with a job that phased out with the increase of technology and social media. It was hard, but it’s life, and she went on to do something better. While what my mom went through effected many, an entire small town wasn’t reliant upon that profession. I really hope this town can rebuild, but seeing what’s happening, with the nail company and Harley it’s not going to get better because of 45, they will need to fix it in spite of him. Easier said than done I know. It’s also incredibly hard to believe that 45 cares about American jobs when his own products are being made in China still. I really feel for these families and hope the best for them 💔🇺🇸

Any idiot who was in HS in the 1970s and decided to be a coal miner is like the guy who bought an 8-track tape player in 1990. He also manufactured goods in China and Mexico such as his ties and clothing, essentially not hiring any Americans and paying foreigners crap wages. He also, took advantage of corporate loopholes to evade taxes and created a fake university preying on the poor. Yet these supporters just shut down their brains and hoped for the best because "emails are scary and fox told me so." These people had a beautiful life, a bustling town and it's lost, eroded by time, never to return. The Market can be cruel: It doesn't care about you or your dreams, your family, your needs, it just cares about value created. Let's try to extend empathy to others, to understand their pain and motivations. If we don't, how will we move past the divisiveness and build a better country.

And that's not this gentleman's fault. I mean, we have self checkout lines at the grocery store now. We all need to diversify our skillsets because even though the automation and technology are taking over, computers can't do everything. Even better would be all of us *_becoming_* the leaders we need & not counting on the minions of either faction of the Plutocrat Party. BlueMonk25 na, it'll be built by mexican construction workers with materials sourced in china. But youre not too far off. He use illegals, then not pay them. Itll be a big scandal as he deports them.
