The Basics:
A simple oil and filter change is the easiest way to keep your Touareg running in top shape. Its so easy, even you can do it on the driveway!
The Problem:
In any car, regular maintenance is the key to prolonging the life of the engine. Unfortunately, it is easily forgotten or skipped entirely. Missing oil changes or not checking the oil level could cause catastrohic problems down the road.
Affected:
All cars.
Solution:
Change the oil yourself. It guarantees the maintenance was done and with quality parts and fluids.

Let me tell you, this has been best-detailed video..i've owned my VW Touareg since 2010 and I've always taken it to the mechanic for an oil change because I lived in the city for many years. I recently bought a house and have my own garage and I always said that I would work on my car once I have space. I never change an oil or anything engine related but watching these videos has inspired me and saved me a ton of money on easy stuff. I recently took on changing both fuel pumps, filter, and regulator on my Touareg 2 weeks ago...Again, I'm not a mechanic and never changed the oil on any of my cars but I found myself in a bind. With a recently purchased home and my car stalling to the point wouldn't turn on, I was faced with two options, spend towing the car to a dealer and getting charged at least $1600 on the car that I didn't have money to fork over or let it sit and wait till have a little more money to purchase a nice hoompty car that will give me to point A and B. Well the pandemic hit and I was forced to work from home as we all did and that just gave me time and the idea to see if I can tackle the job myself. For 3 months that car on my driveway and I was in no rush. I did some heavy research watched a number of youtube videos scoured the forums to help determine if it was indeed my pump. After describing the issue everyone who I spoke to seemed to think the issue was one of my pumps but that's where I fell short..I took a chance and used the money that I had saved and purchased the parts related to the pump since I didn't know which one was bad, I figured since I'm already working on the pumps, it's only logical replacing both so purchased both pumps, filter regulator and o rings at least I know all fuel related parts were replaced.. Finally, the day came and the feeling was like an exam, my neighbor watching, my wife didn't think it would work I had some doubts but was hopeful...took me 3 hours but the moment of truth came, I crank it once..it didn't turn on but it felt like it wanted to turn on..turned the key again and it turned on! Everyone was shocked including myself..all that research paid off...now I'm ready to do my oil and this video is perfect, I can add this to my list of things I fixed on my car. Great video…but doesn’t work on my v8. 😢 For anyone looking for info on changing the oil in a T2 (or model year 2008-2010)…this video will not do you much good when it comes to the filter location. I am so in love with my ‘08 v8; bought it new and just hit 75k. 😇 The T2 filter is on TOP of the engine in the center (from passenger side to driver side) and right in front of the firewall/wipers! So easy; a 4 year old cold change it (well, with a step ladder, of-course). Just thought I’d add this in case someone didn’t realize they changed the engine config on the 08-10’s.

Helpful. Thanks. FYI there is 2nd oil drain plug behind the 1st one. Aft and up higher. You need to remove that one as well to get all the oil out. Gotta be very careful not to strip them as well…

Your Touareg has two drain plugs. The other is higher up and about 10 inches further toward the back of the car. Gotta drain both for a full drain.

@legan1978That’s not a bad trade off, when you think about it. I just changed my oil and left the upper drain plug alone. The first time I’d tried to change the oil, the lower drain plug was fuzed to the pan, either from over-torque or weather related corrosion. A shop had to use a breaker bar to turn it. If the upper drain plug should fuse or strip threads it would be a very expensive repair. Potentially more than a Tourareg of our vintage is worth. Next oil change I’ll try to open both oil drains. After changing my Touareg’s oil/filter, Air Filters and Cabin Filter, Gotta say that the $75 labor for the oil, and $90 for the air filter replacements, isn’t really that unfair. The Air Filters in the V8 engine are a royal PITA to change, especially the Passenger Side filter. The Vac and Coolant return lines are in the way… Doh!

The reason you didn’t get very much oil out is that there are two drain plugs as mentioned previously

True. If you don't drain both of them you will damage the engine

Great video! I got a 08 VR6 and the oil change is a nightmare! You can't replace the filter without get an oil shower! lol...

Sounds like a transmission issue, check your transmission fluid first and go from there
