The driver of that hideous truck that looks like it was designed by a 14 year old with extremely limited artistic talent clearly never saw any of the real-world results of Musk's fever dream promises. He (it has to be a man) saw the website blurb and just clicked "buy now." There have been other vehicles that I thought were hideous when they were first released but after a while they grew on me... this thing still looks like some mediocre KZfaq maker knocked it up in an afternoon with only home workshop tools and some scrap metal he found at a salvage yard.

@@raygunsforronnie847 You missed a lot of things. 1. It wasn't a rock, it was a big steel ball. 2. It wasn't Elon, but Franz. 3. It happened because they tested it a lot the previous day, and that weakened the glass. This has been confirmed on a production unit too, if you keep throwing things at it, eventually it breaks. They simply had bad luck. And the second window on the prototype was normal glass. 4. Sh*t happens in live demos. Everyone had their fair share of similar mishaps, even Steve Jobs. 5. Before throwing the steel ball at the truck, they dropped it on another piece from pretty high, and it didn't break. 6. Prototype vs. production. 7. As I mentioned above, we have production units in customer's hands now, so the test has been repeated a few times. The windows are far more durable than regular glass. Throwing things at it doesn't do anything, unless you keep doing it for a long time.

The Cybertruck is what you get when you have the best engineers in the world and not afraid of taking risks. It's full of technologies that the rest of the industry is only dreaming about, and it's one of the best cars ever made. It's practical as a truck, accelerates like a supercar, handles like sporty sedan, smooth and quiet like a luxury car, pretty good off-road, has the best sound system of all cars, and it's a computer on wheels. Oh, and of course it's bulletproof (to subsonic ammo) and has shatter-resistant windows. Hit it with a sledgehammer as hard as you can, and it just bounces off. Throw a 5 lbs steel ball at the windows as hard as you can at point blank, and nothing happens.

I was like WTF?!? Are you kidding me? I definitely gave them some crap about it (SHE IS SITTING RIGHT NEXT TO YOU!!!). It didn't change their behaviour one bit. It was novel, and me questioning it made it even funnier for them. @raygunsforronnie847 is right. Technology has not only created a kind of isolation, social media has also made it into a wellspring of narcissism. I won't even talk to anyone under 44 in a bar anymore, because they act like online trolls for the most part (& that was 10 years ago). They really don't know how to act [decently] around other people. If you acted like that in public back in my day, you would have gotten yourself a few violent "attitude adjustments" for doing that.

Well- there won't be sand everywhere during/after the apocalypse. There will probably be hard ground and some - what remains of the streets. The charging problem would be more of an concern to me. Quick charge will be gone and to get that much power in that time you would probably have to carry a solar plant with you.

Easier to use solar than find working gas pumps. And after a while oil based fuels go bad, but solar panels and inverters can last 30+ years.

Well, that's true. I forgot that stuff spoils. How long would be safe to assume fossil fuels would still work? Anyway, if you find a solar panel manufacturer you could switch them out after 30 years and so on. Nice! Or do they degrade even when kept away from the light? It seems we should get King Charles wine powered car then. That we could always produce. The wine, not the car...

@@alexandergaus493 If you don't use them, I think solar panels and inverters won't degrade much. And if you use microinverters instead of a single big one, failures will just reduce capacity. There are batteries that could last 100+ years, even if you cycle them every day. The Cybertruck itself would break down mush sooner, but if you have a few spare parts, it could last 30+ years. Modern gas cars would be hopeless. You'd want old ones with very simple engines, that were designed to last and can be repaired with regular tools. As for the fuel, gasoline lasts 3-6 months, diesel around a year. In airtight container, kept cool, with some additive, they can last a few years. Best strategy is having a self-sustaining colony on Mars, and using that to restart civilization on Earth.
