One time Stevie was on the same venue as BB King but they had BB opening for Stevie. When Stevie arrived he was really upset because he felt that BB was being disrespected and that he should open for BB. Stevie told them to change it and they did. The story was from Chris Layton the drummer.

Dude Awsome I moved to Austin in 82 saw him and that was it !!! Over the years I saw him buckets and buckets of times and I turned my brothers and friends on and they would come to town for shows now when we get together we think we’re some of the luckiest guys in da world we shoot stories of show highlights and just experiences of SRV shows and laugh cry and tell each other how lucky we are !!! That's a BB King quote. You can hear his influence in SRV's music, though BB was a lot more sparing with the notes (he said he spoke in sentences).

I read in some ole magazine that Bonnie Raitt was to do a show with Stevie Ray ( his 1st show clean & sober straight as everthang). She said he was scared to death, nervous wreck, everythang. All she could tell him was "Stevie just go out there and play". She said that was the best she had ever seen him play.Simply not anyone like him. Th greatest. Wished I could of seen him live.

@@hesch-tag But he isn't as good as Stevie Ray. Granted, Hendrix was breaking new ground, but he didn't play a guitar nearly as well as Stevie Ray did. SRV is GOATer than Hendrix.

@@JayLandon64 Depends on what you value more. Someone who plays a bit faster and cleaner but far more predictable or someone who never played the same lick twice, who improvised, revolutionized and who was a far better songwriter. Yes he had his bad moments but when he was on, he had no equal because of his musical imagination. SRV was great but very very repetitive.

Very good but very repetitive and predictable, technically great, great flow and groove, fitting voice, relentless, high energy but still very repetitive with his fast licks. Jimi had way more variety and imagination and wrote better songs and has really classic albums.
