I liked that the aussie was more or less "ima just weld this pipe up gap or tight." Travis breaks it down to a level for someone that's never welded pipe before. Sometimes you gotta go the aussie way and just weld the damn thing.

More Travis. He's the man. I remember watching videos of him using the described technique welding practice pipe off the back of his truck. Helped me a ton seeing him actually doing it. Thank you sir.

It's like the old bush pilot saying, "the only thing that will replace a DC-3 is another DC-3" I'm a veteran field, pressure welder, and the only thing I'll replace my old SA-200 K6090 with is another SA-200 K6090.

Hi welding family when I'm out in the field welding 12inch I usually put a big tack on top and bottom. Then I run my root with a 5/32+ the reason I do that is because it only takes one rod on each side of the pipe to finish the root pass and it looks really nice, were usually moving quick out in the field. Its really quick you guys should try it. [Great video guys]

I know what your shooting for...had the same problem for a while. Good ol boy showed me the trick to get it nice and full without a high crown and undercut...on the bottom you gotta whip it out the puddle about an inch and let the puddle cool then come back to it to spread like you want it.

I was thinking there was going to be a wager on this brother-in-law weld... David vs Goliath You know, you could hold weekly battles for you students to choose whether or not they want to enter. $5 to $30 to enter depending upon the coupon size... At the end of the week, the coupons are taken out and judged by the students themselves as well as the yourselves. Coupon is a split pipe with full root,.2/3 fill, and 1/3 cap. That gives them full access to the root, fill, cap, and the entire backside to judge. Each person has 2 votes; they are automatically given one for their own entry and their own coupon which is not presented to them as they judge the coupons as a whole. That way it's fair and they still have their own vote which nullifies counting their own coupon vote! So, they're judging and scoring only their competition. You'd have to number the coupons where they can't see it after each weld is presented with 3 random numbers to identify their coupons and the number is given a letter that you keep a key of for all entries. You can only tell them the letter that corresponds to the number in the key. That way they can't go off telling their numbers to their friends to split the pot and their letter won't do anything because they won't know the corresponding number that's on their coupon. End of the week, they judge them and after it's all over... You look at your key for final letter marking alongside numbers and each person can see their coupon number with letter when you call out the winner! Incentivized welding improvement that helps them in their daily lives. xample; 573-A ... 270-Z
