Sticky Walnut opened in January 2011 as a neighbourhood restaurant in Hoole, just outside Chester city centre, but the flavour and imagination that goes into each sublime dish has rocketed their reputation. It's now a destination restaurant in its own right, but still retains an innate charm and character - but it's the simple, fresh, rustic food that does the talking here. Everything is made on site by head chef Gary Usher and his equally talented staff - they're not afraid to utilise offal and more unusual cuts, and the vegetarian fayre is equally imaginative. Lunchtime is a celebration of bread and pasta, then in the evening there can be dishes of oven-roasted beets with goat's cheese, sticky walnuts and spicy pumpkin seeds, or rolled stuffed pork belly or whole char-grilled mackerel. Simply delicious.
