The "house with the flowers" bit could have been a funny moment. Like they could have had the characters actually acknowledge "House with the flowers? What the heck?" Back when Emergency! was in production, Jack Webb made sure everything was accurate as could be. They borrowed a fire engine from LA county, got a firefighter with SAG credentials on the show to drive it, both Kevin Tighe & Randolph Mantooth went through the full paramedic training course(they stopped shy of actually taking the final certification exam). This was when the paramedic program was in its infancy, the public still didn't trust the system & they had to show exactly what it was like to promote a needed system. These shows you spoof are probably written by the type of viewers who think Emergency! is "boring" & that such shows need more excitement. They also have 5X the budget & could look up real info online for free, but choose to phone it in because viewers eat it up anyway. Then someday someone watching these shows tries what's seen on them to save a life & ends up killing someone because it's all wrong.

Writer here! In defense of my people, while these shows could be less terrible with better writing, this nonsense tone is really to be blamed on producers and network exects. They pick the programing and have the power of veto over pitches, concepts, and entire episode scripts. They were the ones who decided the world was in need of a an first responder TV show. And either didn't care to hire people who knew how the work is done, or activelly sought people who would be willing to write sensacionalist nonsense. I mean you can only really blame the writing team for bad content for the first season of a given show. After that, you need to blame it on the people who haven't fired those writers. Or if you want to be really cynical, blame it on the people who give this nonsense ratings.

I was actually only a firefighter for about 6 months. I got hired by my hometown department by some miracle when I decided that I'd apply for my childhood dream job. They're actually a very high standard department so I had done my research and knew what I was getting into as a career but not quite what they demanded. I made the mistake of showing weakness early, when I was caught off guard by some drills that triggered some anxiety issues I didn't know I had. They (very safely) tested the limits of that anxiety issue and found that I didn't quite have what it took for worst case scenarios (COMPLETELY UNDERSTANDABLE, don't get me wrong). Even still your videos trigger a nostalgia that brings all that incredible training and rookie experience back ESPECIALLY that I can hear jokes about fire science. Thanks for filling that void I'm kind of ashamed to explain I have.

It generally baffles me that movie directors and writers don't just find people like this guy, that can give them proper information and tactics that first responders would actually use...itd make up for an awesome, realistic and immersive movie. Same goes for like, every modern war movie too...they should get actual soldiers and experienced people to direct and give tips for the scene
@unr3markabl39311 ай бұрын
The problem with that is that an accurate portrayal of anything is boring. Just imagine the pulse pounding Report writing section in a police show while they wait weeks for a forensic report. While i agree that some inaccuracies are more egregious than others, what makes or breaks these shows is the drama or the intrigue they can create and real life is seldom exciting.

This is gold. 😂 The good thing about being a German firefighter watching American firefighter series is that our tactics and equipments are so different, that it's easier to overlook the Hollywood bullshit. But station 19 is so damn stupid that I couldn't make it through the first season. My favourite was the blue fire. 9-1-1 was slightly better. But I really like Chicago Fire. I'm sure it's also unrealistic as hell, but at least they wear their masks and they don't switch their cars in every incident. Greetings from Germany. 😃

They don't make Firefighters look stupid. If you don't know about Firefighting, you don't know it's wrong. If you know about Firefighting, it makes the Film makers look stupid.
@JimsEquipmentShed3 жыл бұрын
@@sussertheoriginal But if you don't know anything about fire fighters, you might make the incorrect assumption that the film makers do. Its the film makers reflecting reality to responsibility to bring forth a product thats reasonably true to life. (Unless its a show about a fireman alien that eats the fire.) That show if garbage all day long. Full disclosure, I have never watched an entire episode, the promo reels were so horrible, I generally jumped as soon as it came on.

@Dannys Suarez Yeah, they all use the same drama show formula that was modified for cop shows. This is probably why you see stupid cop show tropes, like arguments over jurisdiction between different stations.

OMG. That guy who got eaten by the mower is SO wrong. That is essentially a beefier version of your regular lawn mower. One really big, really thick blade spinning horizontally. The only way to get trapped in it is to lower it down on yourself. Also, the blade doesn't spin unless someone is IN THE CAB manipulating the controls to send hydraulic fluid through the attachment. It is, in that way, much safer than you gas-powered lawnmower. Even if they guy was that much of a moron to stick his hand under that very loud mower deck while it was running, he would not be stuck. He would be bleeding out of the mangled stump of his arm, lying in front of the machine and an arthritic corgi could pull his arm out from under it. - - Sorry, worked with heavy machinery some years back, and I know you'll cover all the medical and firefighting stuff they do wrong.
