This stir-fried fish cake is a simple side dish (banchan) that's highly popular in Korea. Learn how to prepare two different ways - mild and spicy.

Ingredients:
8 ounces eomuk (어묵), fish cake (4 to 5 sheets)
1/4 medium onion
1 scallion
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 red chili pepper (or 1/4 red bell pepper) (or 1/2 carrot)
1 green chili pepper (or 1/4 green bell pepper)
oil for stir-frying
Sauce:
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon rice wine (mirin or mirim)
1 teaspoon sugar (adjust to taste)
pinch black pepper
1/4 teaspoon sesame seeds
1 tablespoon gochugaru (Korean red chili pepper flakes) - only for the spicy version

This is one of my favorite side dishes! My mom used to turn this into a main dish by adding mushrooms and sausages, and it always turned out amazing!!

I am so on this. I just bought this prepared at the big east coast Korean market H mart. But I bought the o deng slices to make this myself. I love this stuff.

Yes any time is good. Each one may taste a little different but it's okay. For this recipe, just make sure to thinly slice it. Enjoy!!

Yes, you can. Use a little less soy sauce then.

hmm those are the two that come to my mind, but there are such things as vegan eomuk in Korea. Not sure if you can find them where you are.

You can simply omit it or use any other cooking wine or white wine you have.
