Many people drink tea on a daily basis. But, there are three things you need to know if you’re a tea drinker.
Three important things to know about tea:
1. Certain teas are high in tannins
• Tannins bind iron, zinc, and calcium
• Tannins block the absorption of vitamin B1 (a B1 deficiency may cause anxiety)
2. Certain teas are loaded with heavy metals (aluminum, lead, and arsenic)
• Teas from China may have higher amounts of heavy metals and pesticides
3. Certain tea bags are bleached with chlorine
• The chemical used (epichlorohydrin) is a carcinogen
You don’t need to stop drinking tea altogether. You just need to do a few simple things first, including:
1. Ensuring your tea is organic
2. Taking vitamin B1 and minerals
3. Buying loose leaf tea or making sure your tea bags are bleach-free
4. Researching your tea and finding out where your tea comes from

Take it from me: a healthy dose of denial is absolutely necessary to live a happy life. I'm an "upper." When I see negative stuff that tries to tell me how "wrong" I've been about something, I take it with a grain of salt. P.S. Salt is another "enemy" they talk about. I believe it's good for you. It's a hard road to travel with out Bread or Cornbread But I would rather be pain free. On thing is I have lost 20 pounds post covid and can't gain weight. Diet is so limited. I feel tea also was the cause for blocking nutrients my body need to absorb to maintain a health weight. Just started a week ago eliminating tea well weaning really still do green tea. Remember Doc has to find content every day to keep youtube algo and income stream, if you watch daily you can easily stress, cut out all the stuff that you enjoy (important) and have a shelf full of different vitamins, minerals and supplements. For the average Joe, just incorporate more whole foods into your diet and less packaged and work from there. I'm English, have drunk black tea all my life and won't give it up, I enjoy the flavours of the regular brands PG, Typhoo, etc... I do have organic, clipper unbleached too, mix em up for different tastes of the same thing, most of it comes from India/region. I stopped Twinnings as they had high levels of pesticides, but c'mon...if cuppa's are your vice...you'll be fine. It aint nowhere near drink and smokes. Genetics plays a big part. There are many old folks in UK, its common to live to a ripe old age...and almost ALL have been drinking regular PG tips or Typhoo or similar since childhood. The videos are good knowledge to have, but as you get older you know you cannot take it too seriously, you'll be drowning in fear and supplements. Don't dink alcohol much at all, don't smoke, get active every now and again, cut out as much sugar as you can, don't over eat, vegetate in front of tv....you'll be fine.

Don't over eat does probably applies to most people or the average Joe as you mentioend, but I want to note that it does not apply to many people. Some people have the opposite problem, and not just people with anorexia or people starving. If an athlete with a powerful metabolism is trying to put on muscle mass, it is difficult to eat enough, let alone over eat. So long as the food being eaten is healthy, but eating unhealthy food is a separate issue.

Excellent advice. Also, a group of proteins in milk (caseins) interact with the tea to decrease the concentrations of the protective flavonoids so it's best not to add milk. Also, steeping tea for more than three minutes can potentially increase heavy metal infusion, particularly lead and aluminum. As a general rule, steep white tea for one to three minutes and green and black tea for no more than three minutes. That's why you often see the instructions say if you want stronger tea, use two bags (versus steeping longer).

@@raymanjohan8838 Thanks for the compliment! Thanks to Dr. Bergs Channel I’ve been learning a lot! Just a wealth of knowledge! I started doing the 16/8 intermittent Fasting about 11 days ago. My times are 6pm to 10-11 the next morning. In my 8 hour window I drink lots of water, 0 calorie Green Tea, and just eat pretty healthy within the 8 hours, trying to stay under 2000 calories. I also totally quit Soda, energy drinks, Starbucks, etc. I weigh myself every morning on a digital scale and write it down. I had fast weight loss in that first week. I’ve been stuck at around 292 for the last few days. But I’m going to stick with this plan, and keep learning from Dr. Berg and other good channels. I’m 51 now, so I definitely have to stick with this for some great reasons, like Diabetes runs in the family. Also, I merchandise for Pepsi Co. Full time, so my job forces me to walk and work alot. 40-50 hours a week. Plus House and yard work. Waking the dogs. So I am physically active, but would like to start a biking and weight lifting routine soon. In my first week of fasting with the weight loss, I’ve had some tiredness, Lathargic, withdrawals, some weakness and anxiety, headaches, etc. but it’s getting better. I start my job at 5am, and all I have is black coffee with a little cinnamon and water, until 10-11 hits. Otherwise I’m finding Intermittent fasting pretty easy. Good luck if you try it. I think it’s definitely worth it. And a money saver. I’ve been avoiding fast food also. I also watch a lot of Dr. John Campbell. He has a great channel. He’s more about keeping up to date with Covid, Flu’s, Pandemics, etc. Facts and info.

I just saw a video saying I can’t fry with avocado oil because now it’s suddenly “bad.” Now my green tea is bad. Gimme a break, nobody lives forever and eating “healthy,” and I’m still seeing people die in their 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.

There are healthier options, For example using animal fat to fry with is healthier than vegetable oils which oxidize in heat, drinking quality loose leaf tea is better than the crap thrown in tea bags, even pure additive free tabaco is not nearly as bad as pre-rolled Marlboros full of chemicals, grass fed beef is better than corn fed beef etc etc

Hahah, was scrolling to all the "Thank you Dr. Berg for saving my life" comments and then this! I had to comment on it.. Sorry it turned out to be waaaay too long. I feel you man, especially if you watch too many of these videos everything seems bad. But in the end it's also a bit of a fact that most foods nowadays are just screwed by industrialisation and have a lot of bad components. Cancer is and has been on the rise for a reason... I try to learn from these vids to see what my body actually needs and this is sometimes very interesting I think. I live in Portugal myself where everything is extremely heavy in carbs.. Lots and lots of meat, bread and wine etc. Way too heavy, if I just eat Portuguese food I feel terribly heavy and I need to sit or lay down after every meal to digest. But on the other hand there are a lot of very good natural products in markets and the food is delicious... I tried to live without any carbs and sugar and all that and felt more energetic and lighter but also found it very boring. This maybe also because I made my body addicted to a heavy carb diet before but still. Nowadays I enjoy the Portuguese food, but just cut out the worst offenders like drinking sugary drinks and I add quite a lot of veggies and electrolyte rich foods which happen to be also nice. And I feel like it's good enough, I feel much better then when I don't eat them. When I'm not working out a lot I try to eat less carbs, try to control my wine intake (With limited succes, but at least I try to keep it as a treat for the weekends.. Most people drink wine here everyday with lunch..) And that's it. Ah and I skip a meal every now and then in the evening. I think if you do everything according to all these videos and get obsessed you'll be living off of lemons, olive oil, applecider vinegar and avocados only. (All things I love but still..) And before you know it get scared of everything unhealthy all the time which I don't think is necessary but whatever, take it as far as you want I guess. I don't want to take anything away from Mr. Berg I think he's very informative and concise. I find some of the videos very interesting and I learn a lot from them. I think If people would be better educated about modern supermarket food, there wouldn't be so much shitty artificial modern supermarket food around and we live happier and healthier lives. And on top of that real natural products taste so much better... But I can get into your sentiment as well completely and have a big antireaction saying fuckiiiiit, drink a bottle of rum and have a smoke and enjoy your life. In the end It's not Mr. Berg's job to tell you how to live your life it's just food science to be used however to anyones benefit really.

I couldn't give up tea, not altogether, but as I don't like decaf, I'll have an herb tea after supper. And sometimes, the first cup in the morning is an herb tea, as I find regular tea too acid to be the first thing I drink on an empty stomach.

I have always been a major tea drinker which I substituted for my coke addiction in my 20's. I have been drinking 4-5 cups of Lipton black tea with milk and lots of sugar for energy to get through the day for decades. I think you may have just explained why I have also had to deal with anxiety on and off over the years. Eventually becoming an avid student of nutrition/alternative medicine I realized that my tea habit plus sugar was a main culprit. I was self medicating with the caffeine and sugar and definitely addicted. I learned to offset this with the Atkins diet and added much more protein to my diet which allowed me to stay addicted to tea. I could not survive without the 5 hits a day. I also made a major effort to take well balanced comprehensive multivitamins. I exercised an hour or more daily and did Yoga. So I have survived somehow and only drink 2 cups of Lipton a day (I am also addicted to Lipton and don't like other black teas!). Your information on tannins and how it binds is amazing and explains so much (especially to a black tea drinker like myself). Your information on nutrition and everything else is way beyond what anyone else is or can offer. I know it is very time consuming but you are certainly filling a major niche which no one else can do as well as you. THANK YOU!

Interesting- I will use multiple tea bags in a single cup, and also leave them in while consuming. I've always then squeezed the remainder of the tea out into the cup, and drink that. The video mentions maybe to pass on doing that, as supposedly these 'tannins' are more concentrated in the bags, and tannins it says here, leach valuable nutrients (B1 etc.) from your body's absorption of such.

in that logic every food causes "complications" it really doesnt, tea contains tannins okay, but he never specificed what amount has to be present to bind up vitamins and nutrients. his logic here is, it contains tannins, tannins can inhibit this, if you are low on this, this can happen. its very linear and unrealistic. you are still gonna absorb vitamins and nutrients. its not like u drink tea and its just gonna massively drain all your b1 and now you have anxiety... every food is gonna inhibit something to some degree food is full of many things. these videos shouldnt just be put out here with simple personal maths, if u wanna claim tea can lower b1 etc do a study

I was surprised that you didn't include oxalates in your list. I really have had problems with those, including kidney stones. I no longer drink black tea because of this.

Great information as usual thnx doc. I want to share a little secret with coffee drinkers. I have found that taking a capsule of L-theanine with a cup of coffee greatly increases the efficacy of it. It curves the sharp edges of the caffeine and increases your focus, concentration and tames the edginess of it. L-theanine is a simple protein or amino acid. It's found in green tea and has many benefits. In fact, that's what gives green tea it's appeal as far as relaxation and calmness besides its antioxidant properties. Try it and you will see the difference.

In addition, there are the noxious substances used to stick tea bags together. Plus plastic used to make the bags themselves. I'm in the UK, Pukka brand is among the very few to avoid these, using cotton to seal bags.

Thank you Dr Berg for all your hard work! Can you one day please talk about acute/chronic pancreatitis? Drs say we need to go on very low fat diet so we don’t get flares but then I see people struggling with nutrition because we need fats as well and they eat a lot of carbs and sugars and I don’t want to get there; I been "sober” on those things for more then two months. they also can’t even tolerate raw vegetables. So at this point I don’t know what to eat.

Somebody will always find a reason why you shouldn't consume something. This message was brought to you by the loose leaf tea producers of Japan.

Look at all the raw fish and the tea that the Japanese people consume. They live the longest lives.

I drink 2 cups of coffee, (biological coffee) and one cup of tea (English tea with milk) per day....really enjoy this and don’t think it’s harmful....I’m sure both have beneficial effects as well in moderation
