One of the biggest mistakes i see novice riders make is doing the MTB style "boost" where they try to bunny hop the bike off the jump face. Staying loose and bent at the knees while gripping bike with legs and letting bike come up to you is the safest, proper method.

The single biggest thing I've learned about jumping from AJ is this: you're already setup to succeed or fail before you even hit the takeoff. Set it up in the flat, maintain that speed and form through the face, and deal with the landing. This is for novice jumping (me) and not advanced stuff.

The safe jump rules are... 1.Good body position with head over the bars or gas cap. 2.Make sure to smoothly accelerate all the way off of the jump. If you let off the throttle a little too soon, before your rear tire has left the jump, the engine break will cause the front wheel to drop(endo) as well. You can see how this would happen, if your front tire is off the jump but your rear tire is still on the jump and it is engine breaking. So when practicing, Make sure to use even throttle or better yet smooth acceleration until the rear tire has left the lip of the jump. Then you can let off throttle, pull in clutch, or whatever and get ready to apply throttle right when you land. Balanced body position is crucial to the bike flying correctly. Standing attack position with hips back and chin over the bars or gas cap region will feel amazingly balanced and safe in the air. Side note: To compensate for the up angle of the jump face and the acceleration up the jump face... You will feel like you have to slightly lean forward up the jump face to remain balanced chin over gas cap. If you are in a perfect balanced body position even If the bike endos a little or sky wheelies a little it won't be scary at all because you'll be so balanced. Hope this makes some sense. Once I learned good throttle control off the lip and good attack position with chin over bars, it changed everything and was able to start progressing. It felt very balanced, safe and repeatable. 🙏

@Axurias
@Axurias 9 ай бұрын

Also people are much taller now so on the 250’s and up they need to make the bike 2” longer. It would take the back wheel being back two inches so a longer swing arm and chain as well as a fender and frame to match. Foot pegs could be back 2” allowing a person to be more stable and less accidents. Imagine it this way. The further apart your hands are from your feet give you a lot of control. Try riding an 80cc and you will see what I mean. You can ride the bike but your hands are only a foot away from your knees making it very dangerous to ride and control

For me, it was more simple than that. Do you not pull in the clutch every time you use the rear brake hard? I feel like you should or you'd be stalling all the time. The muscle memory kicks in when you go for the rear brake in the air. Clutch gets automatically pulled from your brain.

No. Always grip with your knees. It can be the difference between getting bucked off the bike vs riding away on a hard landing. Get knee pads if you don't have them, and get better ones if you're using cheap mountain bike style pads. Get you some real motocross knee braces, and you shouldn't have that problem anymore.

I found the Renthal 827 bar opened the bike up. A hard seatfoam helps lots with up and down. I had low pegs but would catch my heels in ruts when my ankles were dropped so I'm back to stock, I had bar risers and took them off, didn't feel much difference so left them off. My legs would get so sore riding and days after so I focus on them in the gym to condition them. This works for me and I'm 6'7. It's not all bad honestly. 😂 happy riding.
