Hi there! I enjoy your videos. We are getting ready to install a lawn. Right now, we have levelled original soil. We plan on bringing in 4" - 6" of new soil. My questions are, can we simply spread the new soil over old and plant seed (because grass grows within 4" - 6" of soil) or best to rototill new soil into old? Also, if we don't need to rototill, how do we get rid of weeds before we add new soil?

Clover is relatively easy to kill… but some varieties are perennial, in which case a pre-emergent won’t kill what’s already there but may prevent new seedlings from coming up. Try quinclorac or a triplicate herbicide with 2,4,D, Dicamba and quinclorac to control the stuff that’s already there.

Yes… just don’t spray the areas you want to seed. Give a bit of a buffer too. Like a foot or so.

Love you videos. Is it too late now to use Prodiamine by itself being May already? If I can still create a barrier now. Should I kill the weeds 1st?

You can stop future weeds with an application now. You can also treat the current weeds too with a separate post-emergent application.
