Stormy start to our Scotland van road trip

6 ай бұрынWe headed to the Cairngorms national park in our VW T5 California campervan for a wee road trip around the highlands of Scotland. Storm Gerrit didn't want us to get there too easily so the A9 was closed due to heavy snow, all other routes were closed due to floods.
After an eventful night, we finally reached Aviemore and Glenmore for a few nights camping on Loch Morlich with some hiking, outdoor cooking, man flu and festive beers.
We visited the green lochan (An Lochan Uaine) which is on a beautiful circular walking route from Glenmore campsite at 4.5 miles return.
We planned to hike the Larig Ghru but man flu put a stop to that, definitely be returning to complete it, maybe with a tent for some wild camping.

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the spirit and determination it took for Alan to crack on with such a severe case of the dreaded man flu. What a hero 😂 them floods were shocking to be fair. All the best moochers !

Damn, that was a truly selfless effort making it through all that with manflu! If you hadn't mentioned it at the end we would never have known! Glad you got your break after such a bad start. Had a great few days at Glenmore last May and can't wait to go back.

You’ve not got man flu if you can smell the charcoal 😉 We almost stood on an adder on the high section of the route you took. It made for a funny little dance 😂 Thankfully my wee Jack Russell didn’t see it. The beauty of going back to sites is that you discover new routes to walk.

😄😄 you make a very good point! Maybe it was a very brief moment of relief 😉 OH!! Luckily we didn’t see an adder as Jack would definitely be flossing his teeth with it! We’ve already agreed we’re going to return as there are so many routes to explore around there 🤩

I saw Man Flu hitting todays News Headlines @ 6 O'clock so it must be getting serious. Hope the like makes you feel better soon. What a banging steak that was, we eat steak often when out but nothing like that it looked sublime. Safe travels the wally's.

It’s extremely serious… Thick steaks always cook better outdoors so we had to make sure it a nice hefty one 😁

That was just so beautiful once you got through the floods. Love the new camping kit & steak looked delish. “Urgh, there’s people coming” exactly what I always say to myself 😂

The whole area has soooo much to offer, way more than we showed and definitely one for your list 👍🏼 😄😄😄 it was mainly to do with the fact we don’t like being seen talking to the camera but a small part of it is, we want the place to ourselves!

It's well known amongst many, that the male senses don't recognise symptoms relating to the bog standard cold. It is only the flu virus that affects us as it takes more to topple the average male. Don't shoot the messenger, I'm just imparting information here! I love the comment, '...Aww, there's people coming' too. That sounds like me on every dog walk I'm on. Ruth, however, is happy to chat with anyone we stumble upon! 😆 Great looking park up guys.

I smashed the like button, man flu is a dreadful affliction. I have had the Atago for a couple of years now - cracking bit of kit and it’ll chuck out a fair bit of heat with some hardwood logs too. I have the hot plate (great for fry ups & a brew, but maybe not in -7) and the cloth bag thing that makes it a convection oven, it looks like it won’t work but it really does. Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the trip pans out.

😄😄 thanks! Arago is a great invention, unfortunately no fires allowed here, only coals but we will be using logs in future. Oooooo I’ll have a look at those accessories 😉

As a woman sorry, you won’t find sympathy for your man flu here 😂 Glenmoor campsite is stunning 🤩 we’ve stayed there and the walks are gorgeous! Did you go to the Pine Martin pub at the top of the campsite ? It’s cute!! Can’t believe the nats are out at this time of year! WTH! That steak cooked in the snow looked amazing! Sorry you had such bad weather with the floods 😢 safe travels guys ❤ xxx

We have been to the pine Martin bar previously as we’ve stayed a few times but this time, they had no power due to the storms 🤦🏼♂️ Big fat steak always lifts the spirits in winter when man flu is present 😍

Hi, me and my hubby were there same time as yourselves, can't believe we never saw you. It was our first time at the campsite, but certainly won't be our last, such a beautiful place. Happy days keep on keeping on, not that you'll remember put my dog to sleep last year, at to put the other one to sleep 4 weeks ago, sorta touches home with jack, were going away march to fuerteventura, Mrs 50th , after that I'm gonna have to get another dog, all the best both 👍

Absolutely! We always expect bad weather, we know it’s always a risk despite the forecast but this storm was on another level! Luckily it was short lived 👍🏼
