We moved to US when our kids were just 3 and 1 and as a mother I feel that’s the best thing that could have happened to us. I was tired and exhausted as a mother being told how to raise my kids by every other person. I took my kids to the library and park everyday. We went on a lot of vacations. The time I would have spent attending functions with family and friends we spent as a family. When our kids were little I never wasted my time and energy on what clothes or jewelry to wear, I played with them a lot. Our kids are teens now and we have a beautiful relationship with them. After 15 years in California we own 2 houses, one a vacation home near Yosemite in 5 acres, no loans and at our property in Silicon Valley we grow tons of organic fruits and veggies for our own use. We do all our house chores including flooring, installing new toilets, building our own furniture and we also have a lot of pets we love. Also because we have an active lifestyle we do not have any health problems. We feel rooted and home❤

Thats good it worked out for you. 15 years ago buying a house with one salary was possible and you or your partner can stay at home and do all the activities with kids, this is not possible today. With both parents working and kids being raised in day care in US, its better to come back, so atleast grandparents can take care and spend time with kids.

We have couples colleagues who bought homes in last 3 years with just one persons income. Only problem they had to buy out of the Bay Area, but than they only have to come to office twice a week now. Atleast for me I never had plans to work, I could never trust my kids with anyone not ever our families. We managed on lot less when our kids were little back in Bangalore early days of our marriage. Basic furniture, not even a television because we couldn’t afford one. Kids don’t know what material things they don’t have when they are little, but not having their mother that they know.

As parents...though we really want to come back...we are worried about competition culture for our kids....we hzve to study...toil hard to get a seat in a good college in india...while this might be much easier in abroad...thoughts?
@DesiReturn
@DesiReturn 10 ай бұрын
That's a fair point. I believe as a parents we can create an environment that kids dont feel that competition culture (but it's not completely shielding it from competitive environment). It also depends on the schools (some IB schools don't even give grades etc.,). In regard to kids, other point is kids who grew up in India can live either in India or abroad but not the other way round.

It is horses for the courses and to each is own. There is no right or wrong answer. Newcomers have a very tough time getting their green card and it is nearly impossible to get one that makes it very frustrating. These guys moved to the US in 2014 so it is utter stupidity to expect huge changes in 9 years. The chai example is also bad.

I have lived more than 10 years in the US and now going back. I have a pending I-140 petition which would be approved in next few months but I am not pursuing it means I will lose the opportunity for GC but I have no intention of coming back. Few of the reasons I decided to Move back to India or I wouldn't move to west 1. Family. This is my biggest reason. I would like to be closer to my family. 2. Feel like an outsider. Although I have lived here for 10 years but to date I don't feel at home. This country has given me a lot in terms of experiences ,money personal growth but I still don't feel at home. 3. My own Kids. Although the schools are great and you have all the facilities still you hear shootings in schools all the time. You would see students hitting their teachers. You would see Students swearing on their teachers. I would not want my kids to grow up in such school and I hope this disease doesn't spread to India. BTW my kids are Indian citizen so they are not anchor babies. 4. Woke culture. This is again one of my biggest reasons of moving back and is related to my kids only. To be able to identify your gender at age 9 and you can hide that from your own parents. I am sorry I will not take this. I am not against any LGBTQ+ and I would be perfectly fine if my kids tomorrow identify as one but I wouldn't want them to be immerse in that all the time and at a tender age. All the talk here is about that only. 5. Old Age. I would not want to be old in a western country. My spouse's Mama Mami came here in the early 80s but now they are also thinking of moving to India because of the help they can get and to be around people like them. Both their daughters are married and live far from them. 6. Extreme Right Politics. This is the first time in US history that Whites are in a minority. This kind of demographic change would affect everyone in the long run. This is the reason you see Extreme Right Wing Politics on the rise. You hear Netherlands PM Danish PM speaking ill about particular community in their parliament. Sooner or later this will lead to some sort of friction between communities. We are already seeing that in France, UK etc. 7. High Amount of Debt. The western countries ( at least the US) run on Debt. This model has survived till date but now the Debt is unmanageable. Most of my American friends have at least 70 -80k or more in student loans and most of them don't have a salaried Job. The culture of just getting a Credit Card and living off it wouldn't last very long. Those were my 2 cents. To anyone who wants to move to a Western Country be prepared for a Big cultural shock. Life is not easy here but it can be rewarding if you have the right attitude. Also it's very important at what age you move. If you are moving in your 20s your experience and expectations would be different from someone in their 30s. I would be different if you are moving as a student, PR, work Visa, with kids , with a spouse. So Please I would request to think very hard before making this move. Not to mention it can be an even harrowing experience if you move by taking Debt and are unable to find a job quickly over here. Getting Help is the most difficult thing here. And since this channel is guiding people who wish to move back I would suggest to take that decision sooner than later.
