The final release of Street Fighter 6 blows open all modes for testing - including the World Tour adventure and Battle Hub. Every machine sticks the landing with a perfect 60fps in the arcade mode - though Xbox Series S takes some surprising visual cutbacks to get there. We also take a look at the state of the game's input latency, where results courtesy of @noodalls reveal this is one of the most responsive in the series history. That is, with the right set-up.

No kidding! The game engine is a marvel and very well optimized in general. Reminds me of Fox Engine that powered MGS 5 and was kidnapped by Konami after they burned bridges with Kojima. What a huge loss....

yeah, after having a rock solid 30fps with nice visuals on MH Rise on switch, we have yet to see the limits of this godly engine.

I have a question for DF though, when will PC performance be evaluated? Currently the PC version suffers from some pretty...strange issues regarding performance, mostly CPU-focused. I even linked to one of the findings via twitter DMs, so I'm excited to see more investigation about it in the future. EDIT: Honestly, with the findings we have...it could possibly affect consoles too? I see no way how it couldn't, but I haven't heard of anyone complaining or investigating these specific issues I've DMed to DF on consoles.

@@lukastemberger People have already confirmed that Denuvo is not involved in the performance issues, because these issues date back to the Benchmark build. I hate Denuvo as much as the next guy, but misinformation ain't it.

It’s kinda crazy to think about, but ever since the RE engine hit the scene , Capcom games have all been A+. Goes to show how a rock solid engine lets the devs just focus on making the game good instead of working with a terrible engine taking up dev resources.

It's a lot about knowledge and experience. With your inhouse engine, you can ask the right dev about every screw and bolt. You can change exactly what you need. You can custom tailor it to your studios workflow. Plus Capcom devs have been working with the Re:Engine for so long it probably feels like home.

World tour is heavily cpu bounded that's why performance is bad across all platforms, Capcom should make separated settings for that game mode

I have a better performance o pc compared to the demo but still have some frame drop down to 30 FPS 😢 ( using a 3070 and Ryzen 5 3600x)

I've been completely addicted to this game. Really didn't like 5 but this one is seriously fun. (edit: Even splurged on a good fight stick.. didn't expect to do that this gen, but I think it's that good and I'm sure I'll dip into this for years to come)

@@GrigRP depends on what you like; from a feature point of view it's better than USF4 (since sf6 has extensive single player content etc), from a gameplay perspective it's your decision. It's probably a good call to say that it's (still?) worse than USF4, but better than SF4 was on release.

@@Jerry4050 probably just time spent on optimisation. Sony (PlayStation) has been known to invest a lot in fighting games compared to Microsoft and Nintendo, hence why a few fighters that come out (e.g. guilty gear strive) werent on x box until a later date. And actually SF5 only existed because of Sony’s investment, otherwise it wouldn’t have released due to the hectic development. Otherwise, the series s probably could easily outperform the ps4.

Seems that you guys missed the fact that the scenarios lacking visuals on series S don't lack it in the world tour mode. Check it out, every detail that is missing on the battle hub version is available on the same map in the world tour mode and it's running at 60fps.

I wonder why the Series S version is so bad in terms of image quality, it should be a lot better then PS4 and on par with the PS4 pro. The textures should be a lot better. I think the Series S version just got the less attention 😅

its upsetting the muscle thing was one of there selling points and there was no way to know it didn't have that before buying it, it's such a cutback that i think capcom should have stated that it lacked that feature, what a robbery, that gimmick sells a lot of the super moves in the reveal seeing ryu's bicep bulging like that in real time was HYPE i was like "YEEEAH THIS IS IT BABY!!!" spent 100 on deluxe edition....turns out there's no muscle bulging, sorry for the rant dude this pissed me off as you said dmc5, re2,3,4,7,8 all looked and ran like a dream on series s and even elden ring lol but they cant have muscle flexing!!????

That muscle deformation looiks amazing! I've thought for a while that accurate anatomy (lol not that Ryu's arm was accurate to a normal human) would be a great next step in making videogame characters look more real. People with muscles and little bits of chub that move around under their clothes. We need more chub physics.

Neither HD 7790 or HD 7850 class of GPUs were really considered low end by 2013 standards. R9 290/290X were enthusiast GPUs, 280/280X were high end, 265/270/270X were mid-range, arguably 260X/7790 also.

@@raresmacovei8382 Not really NVIDIA Exec called the PS4 a "low end PC" HD 7850 was on par with GTX 480 from 2010 The GTX 660 was a mid-range of 2012 and more powerful than HD 7850

Really great video, and I'm super appreciative of the lag testing that was performed too. As for the game itself, it's really-really-really good. Hits a similar twitch-based itch that 4 did while successfully catering to long-time fans and newcomers alike. It also must be said that the online aspect is far and beyond anything I could have ever have hoped for; it works so well. They *really* need to be commended for how well they've done here!

Can you do an analysis for the PC version as well? Quite a few of us are having performance problems on the World Tour Mode where we're getting frame rate drops in certain areas when it shouldn't be having that. Would be good to know what's the main cause of it.

Been playing on PC and it's phenomenal. The character models are some of the best I've ever seen. Characters are full of life and expression and the animation is best in class.

There is a huge missed oportunity here! 120fps mode at 1440p on PS5 and SX! RE Engine runs incredibly well on last gen consoles, there is no way devs couldn't manage to set a 120fps mode on current gen! Just imagine 120fps with low latency mode... Now THAT would be a really new and responsive experience for consoles!

I’m playing this on series X and it’s great. Weird cutbacks on S. Mortal Kombat, on the other hand is well optimized on Series on S.

The only thing that bothers me with the input lag test and using a non-native controller is that the majority of people playing probably won't be using anything more than the default game pad of the console. And not using, or at the very least, including the results from said pads is kind of bogus and doesn't really give a good impression of the general latency.

It's quite disappointing that Capcom phoned it in a bit with the Series S optimizations, using asset quality even lower than the PS4. Like, it's just lazy that they'd see a machine with as much, if not more memory than the PS4 and PS4 Pro and decide to phone it in by just setting everything as low as they can

What they did to series S is a crime. The beta looked so good on the series S, its unbelievable. The series S is capable of good graphics at 30 fps as far as i know and the beta and world tour mode are both at 30 and they look better than the other modes that actually matter. I wish they would give us an option to switch to 30fps but with good graphics like in the beta.

I'm aware of Series S limitations, but Capcom clearly didn't put any effort on that version, shame on them. And Nigel is a wizard, this rig for measuring input lag is brilliant.

Great review, but just out of curiosity, is HDR available for the pc? Does Xbox series X have? Ps5 does not have. Any opinions with regards to the mods for the pc? I realize this is purely a graphics comparison but any ideas about the latency with respect to older ps3 arcade sticks running on the pc?

​@@JVCHAMP It's an excellent TV btw! At 18:10 Tom explains it in detail. IDR stands for Input Delay Reduction. it's a mode implemented by Capcom to SF6 that helps reducing input delay for screens with 120hz like LG C1. What it basically does is changing refresh rate to 120hz to input with much less delay, and man, you can really feel it the second you smash the buttons. However, is important to note that the game does not run at 120fps, but at 60fps while the input is receiving data at 120hz, the response will of course will be much lower. It's a genius move for consoles and very helpful for us fighting game fans!

My low end PC can't run the online lobby very well (haven't tried World Tour yet) but the battles themselves are perfectly smooth and that's what counts for me. Considering that, it seems strange to me that the Series S version has so many cutbacks. I have a 4 GB GPU and I don't remember the textures looking as bad as on Series S.

Great overview! I was hoping to see some information on XSX with HDR enabled and how that may impact latency. As it stands my xbox outputs a 120hz signal with HDR enabled. I turned off VRR due to its effects on local dimming on my tv and don't have input delay enabled.

Being able to fight on a 2D plane anywhere at anytime in World Tour’s open world (and with such in-depth mechanics as SF6’s) is nothing short of revolutionary for games as a whole, and definitely for fighters. I remember when MK Deception’s Konquest mode tried to do something similar but had to have loading breaks in between it all, then Armageddon’s said screw it and just had 3D brawler combat.

The hair rendering for Ken & Marisa is a bit wonky in World Tour. But otherwise, the game looks & runs great. Though I find it weird that the Series S final game looks worse than the beta. That said, I’m glad you all are covering input latency for Street Fighter 6. Hopefully you do the same for Mortal Kombat 1 & Tekken 8. And given the results, tournaments will likely have to upgrade away from PS4 eventually for better input latency.

@@blue-steel7177 Series S should be matching PS4 Pro in visual fidelity while keeping most of the current generation animations, etc. To me this really looks like it is pushing a discontinued Xbox One version of the game. 🤷‍♂

I am not surprised with the screen-space reflection anomalies. The occlusion bug has been in other RE Engine games as well.

It can cause some screen tearing on non VRR displays. Tbh I mostly noticed it on super mover cinematic animations which don't matter. My TV is VRR but I watched a fighting game stream and saw this.

RE Engine was being used in the early development of SFV but as an unfinished framework. Capcom should document and create a new certification method for Game Engineering. The way they have consistently delivering high quality games with barely no issues at launch is incredible and should be followed by many, specially western developers who uses Software Engineering methods that does not goes well for delivering quality games.

I haven't yet watched the video. But as a note i really like how the game manages to push my 3080 to 90% to run the open world most of the time at 60 fps with just couple slowdowns if im doing things in parallel (watching videos with super sampling and nvidia broadcast running).

I have found in performance mode on world tour my monitor is coming back with an unlocked frame rate, sometimes even reach 120fps at times.

how many ms is pc without idr on? since you can already turn off vsync. IDR can be pretty taxing and if it doesnt produce much a difference there is no point in having it on

Happy, in some ways, to hear that the texture streaming issue isn't just me and not just limited to PC users and that it is effecting everyone. Here's hoping it is something Capcom can resolve fairly quickly via a patch. Running the game maxed on a 3090 FE at 1440P, there shouldn't be any hardware reason why the texture streaming/pop in is such an issue in World Tour mode. Everything else runs buttery smooth with all settings on max.

The fact that PS4 Pro runs at 1080p similar to Series S is ironic, but with even poorer textures on Series S? Can we say little to no optimization on Series S? Let's hope some decent patches release, for Series S's much more modern hardware clobbers a PS4 Pro.

are you gonna cover the pc version? i have a weird problem with dx12 since i can only do borderless window if i turn textures and shadows to max the game goes at below 10 fps and i have to alt enter to switch from borderless to window and switch back again to borderless and it fixes itself. and alot of fps drops and inconsistency on world tour

The Series S version having rough visuals is a shame since it's probably the version a lot of smaller tournaments/locals will use as it's more affordable then a ps5 while still having current gen features like VRR to reduce input delay.

Thanks for covering fighting games. I remember they used to be the graphics showcase in the arcades and consoles. Are there plans to cover the PC version also? I noticed significant ghosting in World Tour mode standing in one spot and spinning the camera around. The game does a poor job of explaining the graphical settings.

I'm torn here. It's impressive Capcom was able to get this game to run well on a PS4, but at the same time, disappointing that the Series S version doesn't run better. That's just poor optimization for the Series S version.

So IDR (input delay reduction) mode switches the game’s output to 120hz while keeping the frame rate at 60fps and it takes approx. 30 milliseconds off input latency. Series X|S does this for all games by setting the system refresh rate to 120hz in the system display options. There was a question on a recent DF Direct Weekly podcast. The user asked why does Red Dead Redemption 2 feel so much better on series X. The user had this exact same question, does using 120hz refresh rate on Xbox when games are 60fps improve input latency. I guess we got our answer now. I commented on that video that it’s better to set Xbox to 120hz refresh rate all the time, but the DF staff said they set it to 60hz output when they are playing a 60fps game. Seems like they are under utilizing and don’t speak about a key Xbox advantage!
