(Tl,dr at the bottom) I believe the line was "...among the smartest and most attractive people in the world." you can take that two ways, realistically. 1) drop a diamond ring, a platinum necklace, a rhodium bracelet, a playlist with slayer/ iron maiden/ baby shark remixes, a silver spoon, and a golden ticket into a sewer. the turds in that sewer will be "among the most precious metals in the world", but they would not be precious metal. it would still just be a turd that is among precious metals. 2) if you have 10 billion people in a given set, chances are very high that you can avoid being the absolute least intelligent and/or absolute least attractive person on the planet. so if you take those two people, isolate them in their own separate "least attractive/intelligent" group, you could then label the remaining 99.99999998% of the population as the "most attractive and intelligent" group. that would mean you are (technically) one of the "most attractive and intelligent" people on the planet. unfortunately, while the second option is more appealing to your general sense of dignity, it's actually not realistic. two individuals would be outliers, not a group. if we worked off 1% being the smallest tangible group, then the accurate figure would be 76,74X,YZ0 people. the worldwide MTG community is only about 35,000,000 strong, which is just under 1/2 a percent. for every magic player out there, there are 199 people who don't play. if you asked those people if they thought buying 16 playing cards for $5 (I haven't played since conflux so this may be way off, I honestly don't know the price but it was like $4 a decade ago at Walmart I think. iirc, it used to be about $100 for 1 booster box, 2 fat packs and a playmat) was a sign of intelligence, especially considering you probably won't use at least 2/3 of the pack; you would need 3 people out of your 199 nonsupporters to get you over the 1% threshold. keep in mind that you need to tell them about how many sets come out in a year, how you need a minimum of 12 packs in each set to come close to a smooth playing deck, and probably at least another $50 to $100 of individually re sold cards to give that deck a fighting chance and not just a punching bag on fridays. it's pretty obvious that when someone thinks you are making foolish choices and not spending money well, they aren't going to find you attractive. so that pretty much means you can count on 196 of your 199 counterparts automatically not saying you are attractive. so of the 3 people who thought buying cardboard crack was intelligent, you need to be attractive to 3 of them. chances are the lifestyle preference for at least one of them is going to rule you out as attractive. and let's just say you rolled a nat 20 and got 3 supporters that find men attractive (playing MTG? let's face it there is about a 75% chance you are male. and I'm not going to look it up, but I bet Dev has something like a 90% or higher male viewing percentage, so something like a 2.5% chance you are not male if you watch this vid). now those 3 people all need to agree that spending friday night with children and pizza and the scent of a room full of unwashed male body oder is attractive. and the sight of their chosen male getting upset about being beaten by a 7 year old needs to be attractive. and the sedentary life of playing games during the week and watching videos like this to "hone your craft". Tl,dr: if you were attractive and intelligent, chances are you wouldn't be playing magic and watching this guy -blubber- blabber on about it.
