Andy mate, these people are so lucky to have you. Your skills are transferable, and I hope they bloody well realise that. Not many lads, if any, can even hope to approach your standards by their 40s. I had a computer programmer at my work, and if I needed something changed /improved, I would explain it to him, and it would be done within the half hour. Our governments run MS-DOS software from the early 1980s and will get charged $100,000 for a minor change, so it never gets done. That is why so many government forms makes no sense and repeats the same questions multiple times. What you are doing is bespoke engineering on the spot, and they don't know how good they have got it.
