Great job! We seal the tile before installation also i find it helps thin set not penetrate the surface when installing because its very hard to remove after.

Personally I feel leaving risers to last is incorrect. The most common symptom I see from risers last is a crack or broken edges on the step edge after some time. I suppose if the top step is absolutely overhanging the thickness of the riser it's ok, but that rarely happens. I bet some of the steps were out, so on one side the top step tile was overhanging 1/2 inch, but on the other side 3/4 or maybe even 1 inch. This creates an issue when installing risers; as theres a void if your not gushing the crap when installing risers. Personally i believe the process should be risers first, but shimmed up so the tread slides underneath. If the risers are done first, then the gap filled, so the tread is completely gap free, then once it's time to install the treads, it's a much stronger edge that wont crack or break off...I know this way takes more planning and time, but imo it's a much more solid edge...if you had a one step job or let's say a curb in a shower, would you install the top of curb first, then sides? I wouldnt, I install the 2 sides first, then the top of curb....

Very nice. I have installed slate once or twice and I remember the variations in the thickness of the tile. I can only imagine how long that would have taken one tile man by himself. Very tetius and time consuming work.

Hi, what grout do you recommend for slate on something like this? I'm basically doing the same tile except it's a walkway outdoors. Do you just use standard sanded grout? Or something else like Mapei products?. Also, did you just use penetrator sealant? Thanks!

Hey LT-TV, I got off subject question. What are those boots (1:08) you got at the beginning of the video, if you can remember? I used to wear Caterpillar but they don’t make anymore style I liked. It must be soft toe! Yours look super similar to mine so I thought to ask. Was researching for my small slate stone repair I have going on and your video popped up. As always … a true gem. All the best and happy new year.

Your video is nicely edited, but I was surprised at the lack of detail. I'm coming here trying to gather some tips for installing some very similar slate tile on a floor + wall, and I feel like you only had a very small amount of information here. But then like 10+ seconds of you folding up the saw and moving it. It's neat and all, but I need info too!
@PatrickBoatner
@PatrickBoatner 3 жыл бұрын
Things like: how did you space the tile? What size notches would you recommend for a trowel that size? What kind of thinset and enhancer/sealant are you using? What if I'm using some cheapo saw from a big-box store, is there a certain blade I should pick up for a heavy natural stone like this? What if I need to drill through the slate afterwards, is there a good way to prepare for that? How do I put in grout without the grout getting into all the rough spots on the slate?
@LandbergTileTV
@LandbergTileTV 3 жыл бұрын
we eyeballed the spacing, no spacers recommend 1/2" x 1/2 because of the various thickness of slate typically use Aqua enhance sealer a mesh blade would work best (aggressive) P4 Pearl Mesh is good drilling through slate with a diamond hole saw will not be a problem seal before grout, and don't use too much water (changes grout color) good luck 👊😎
