Beautiful restoration My shifter is working well, but I’ve yet to find a video of how to thread the cable in. Any help?

Nice video. I would like to know why you did not add a bit of grease to the parts.

Nice job but to give it that extra touch i would have polished up the plastic cover with Autosol Metal Polish paste that will shine up the cover only on the front as the numbers are printed on the back i think and that would rub off the paint but i use it a lot to remove light scratches and marks on plastic items....

You might want to use Aluminum Wool instead of Steel Wool. Steel Wool will scratch the Chrome and then you get more rust. Aluminum is softer then the chrome and won't scratch as much.

better yet, bronze wool!!!

How did it perform before the repair with the failed clutch? I’ve got one that will shift to all three gears, but seems to require some fiddling (pulling the lever outward) to reach each of the 3 indexed spots

Great job sir what cleaning liquid do you use
@retrobikestuff7604 жыл бұрын
Lester Pinto thanks lester, I use Clark’s traffic film remover, it’s a lot better than the parts washer fluid, I use it neat 👍

Hi, I'm restoring an old sears free spirit with this shifter for my wife. I raised the handlebars a little with an adjustable stem but I cannot raise them anymore since it pulls on the shifter cable. Any ideas how to fix this problem? Thanks, Mike
@retrobikestuff7603 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, you could replace the cable for a longer one or move the shifter in towards the centre slightly to give a little more slack Hope that helps

I need a replacement clear plastic shifter cover like the one shown in this video. Does anyone know of a source for a new or good repro part? Thanks.

@retrobikestuff Hi my cover cracked when removing the shifter, would you happen to have an extra that would fit the model in the video? Thank you in advance.
