Welcome everyone to my first drive of the Subaru Crosstrek.
The Crosstrek name replaces the old XV and fits in with the same model in the US.
Improvements to the Crosstrek over the XV in the mid life update are a new infotainmant system, updated styling, improved safety and chassis rigidity.

It’s a surprise the boot is so small since this is basically a hatchback version of the latest Outback. We had the last XV and even though on paper it was small it was actually very practical but have to say the overall car did feel like it needed an update. This is more than a mid-life facelift though

Great review. It's a handsome, rugged looking beast. Surprisingly small boot, though, but it's a great car.

If it had been a bit longer to improve the boot size it would have been a great all rounder but still good nevertheless. Good review. 👍

I prefer the American Crosstrek with its 2.5L engine rather than the 2.0L U.K. version that has now managed to reduce the power from 152bhp to 136 BHP. Why? This is the only reason I haven’t bought one yet I was hoping that eventually we would get the bigger engine or at least a turbo. I’m so disappointed as this could have been the perfect car for everyone. American also get more versions like Sport, wilderness and they also get a Harmon Kardon sound system so yes the U.K. are very much short changed telling us that Subaru are not interested in the U.K. market.

I own the 2024 crosstrek with the 2.5 boxer, great ride, horrible fuel efficiency

Agreed - had this engine in my Gen 6 Outback in the UK and while it’s still a fairly rubbish engine (no idea why we don’t get the 2.4 turbo) it’s still far better than the ridiculous 2.0 hybrids.

So it’s not that powerful, it’s not especially economical for a compact hybrid; it’s not that well appointed and it’s heavier than a non hybrid. What’s the point of it? Subaru have short changed UK customers compared with US spec versions and it’s soundly thrashed in most areas by the Rav4, the XC40, the CRV and others. It’s so slow it’s a 1970’s throwback. Why would anyone buy one over the competition?

@@danielardeleanu8310 I don't think anyone wanting a serious off roader would pick a hybrid. Most will spend their life on tarmac. For winter, any awd that can use decent winter tyres should be fine. Best I owned was a Gen 2 permanent 4wd Rav4 with Geolanders fitted.
