I have 160,000 miles on my 2014 Outback. Today is June 28, 2023 and I just installed my 3rd set of rear wheel bearings today. I live in the state of Ohio. I have put never seize on everything and it has always come apart easy. When I took the axle nut off today I could push the axle with my thumbs right away. I tapped the 4 bolts in the back of the hub bearings with a hammer while the socket and extension was still on them. It didn’t take much for them to come out. I used your torque specs. Much appreciated!!

OK just did first rear bearing replacement on 500,000km Legacy GT in not so rusty country. The hub bolts defeated a bottle of oxy,, killed one electric rattle gun, defeated a large air one and even the giant 2 hander from the neighbour's factory. Had to cobalt drill the centre of the hub nuts out from the outside, gas it and rattle their corpses out. MEGA. The other one had been done a couple of years ago, so it came easy when I decided it was a good time to replace both cv shafts as well. BTW $17 EACH for the 4 hub bolts from Subaru to replace them.

Perfect timing. My 2013 Outback has started making a noise in back and I suspect a rear wheel bearing. I jacked it up and did not feel any play, top to bottom or side to side. Didn't spin it, though. I do notice that the sound changes as I go over a dip or bump as more or less weight is applied to the car. It used to make more or less noise in a turn vs straight line, now it just does it all the time.

You know, I love my 07 Forester, but someone needs to get on Subaru's case about the pathetic cheese-metal nuts and bolts they've been using forever. I have never owned another vehicle where I could pretty much expect to be snapping bolts off every single time I work on something. We all know about it. Especially the folks who contend with higher levels of road salt and stuff. It's infuriating sometimes, and it shouldn't be happening. It doesn't have to be like this. The highly disposable fasteners have got to effin go, man.

If i touch exhaust, i expect everything to be broken and hope it doesn't. Give it cherry red heat and pray. Eaaaaaasy money jobs outside the rustbelt. I feel so sorry for anyone that lives where they salt the roads! I had a customer 4th gen the other day, said the front right wheel bearing was shot. One of those ones where you can hear it driving but damn inaudible when spinning the wheel. Couldn't tell which side, so went with his word and took the right one out... Once it was out, I spun it, and she felt nice and solid, so on my gut feeling I reassembled with the old bearing, and took out the left one, sure enough, the left one was the one that was poked. Total job time - 1-hour. Aaaaahahahaha.

There was nothing left for me to "spin" after demolishing the wheel bearing on a Subaru I just spent 3 days replacing the bearings on. Lol

So here is the solution: you look at your wheel bearing hub -> you hammer out two studs each on opposite side-> you take two long bolts with two nuts-> stick them in where studs used to be-> after you stick bolt it-> put a nut -> keep twisting the bolt until it hits the NON wheel bearing surface-> you do same on opposite side for another bolt and keep twisting them alternating. This will suck out the stuck wheel bearing.

I feel yah! I have a very large family and it's always hard charging them labor when they come to my shop. I always give a good discount on labor and don't mark parts up for them. Well the ones I actually like that is ... My mother in law isn't leaving without paying 3x book time and parts cost haha

I really do love our Crosstreks, but had to have my rear hubs on our 2016 replaced at 69,000 miles. Now, my Hyper Blue '16 with only 39,000 miles is sounding like it needs rear hubs too. This should be unacceptable to Subaru... they have a TSB on it, but won't do a recall. Very disheartening to me as a Subaru enthusiast.
@MrSubaru1387
@MrSubaru1387 3 жыл бұрын
It's not a safety concern, no recall needed. I've seen the rear hubs last 100k-200k plus on Crosstrek. Depends on your environment.

@@MrSubaru1387 So you don't think there's anything wrong with quality when hubs go out at 69k miles? I get that you have seen some go 100k-200k .. but I have the same issue on two Crosstreks.. and there IS a TSB on the problem. I'm commenting on the build quality here, something I thought I wouldn't need to worry about with Subaru... which is why I left the Big 3 and came to Subaru in the first place.
@MrSubaru1387
@MrSubaru1387 3 жыл бұрын
@@twrecks4598 you do know what a TSB is, right? Again, it's more the environment your vehicle is in and driving habits than anything. If it fails outside of the warranty period, then that's just what it is.
