Thank you for this great video. I love that you showed exactly how to do it and didn't waste 5 minutes of my time telling me what you were going to do, repeating that a couple of times and then going through the (unfortunately) obligatory "smash the like, hit the subscribe, hit the notifications button.... " Thank you for good content without all the garbage that seems to drive youtube right now.

Thanks so much for the video. Just performed inner/outer tie rod replacement on 2008 impreza. Definitely more corrosion due to salty winter roads. Passenger side inner tie rod boot was dry inside, but the driver side inner tie rod boot had more oil inside the boot. Is that normal or is that indicative of other problems?

Hey Mr. Subaru, I know this is old and there’s a fat chance you’ll see this. But here’s a shot. I’m learning and genuinely don’t have an answer to this question. Most inner tie rods I’ve done don’t have the inner tie rod lock washers or lock pins. Is this a Subaru specific thing? Also are there any sources you can suggest that I can learn more about these locks so I can do the job the right way? A lot of KZfaq videos are more generic than yours. Thanks!

A dumb question, how does the tab washer add a locking feature? the tabs fit into the machines slots on the inner rod, then you peen over two sides of the washer. It seems like the washer is locked only to the tie rod. Do you ever use MOOG tie rods for subarus? Do you reuse the washer?

What’s the best possible way to not lose alignment? I seen another video where he just slid a new boot over a zip lock bag. The only problem for me is that the first clamp is not a hose clamp. So I can’t cut it off. It’s the one like yours in the video. Never took off a tie rod by myself. So I don’t really know how to mess with it. Care to explain just a tad about counting the tie rod as you take them off? So if I’m correct. The lock nut doesn’t matter as you loosened it. It only matters by the turn of the tie rod? I saw that you mark it too? Why do you need to mark it when you’re already counting the turns? Also, where you marked as you moved the lock but away is where the tie rod is suppose to come back to correct? Sorry for asking so much. I just want to do this correctly as I couldn’t find any good source on the forums. Thanks.
@MrSubaru1387
@MrSubaru1387 6 жыл бұрын
+Subaru WRX as you loosen the lock nut, the inner tie rod can turn, when the inner tie rod moves it adjusts the effective length. You need to be aware of this when loosening the jam nut. Basically, as long as you don't move the inner tie rod when you loosen the jam nut, you can count the rotations of the outer to get it close. There's no getting it back bang on, but you can't usually get close enough to not notice.

Videos like these show people who have never done this before (like me) what to expect. It's always nice to start a job knowing as much as possible.
