I just resealed my 1991 GMC oil pan and trans pan using blue fel- pro , once it was warmed up I retorque them and put teflon sealer on the trans drain bolt , NO LEAKS !! never liked cork gaskets , back in the day you had to soak the cork in water to soften before installing they were so dry , silicone gaskets saved the day again .

Chimming in with everyone and the disclaimer of being aware this video is a year old as I write my reply, I only wanted to add that when tightning the pan bolts you want to tighten a bolt than the one across the pan back and forth starting in the center working out ward and torque in 2 steps 3 if the value was 30ft/lbs and greater. After 50 miles when transmission is still warm retorque the bolts and checking for any leaks. That's it, good job!

I know you did this video awhile ago but I just have to say that I hate, absolutely hate doing something and then have to redo it. I feel like I wasted my time and of course the fact that I have to spend more money such as fluids. Anyway great job and thank you for sharing your good and bad news.

I had a aftermarket gasket leak on me recently, but it was on a 91 Buick Lesabre Custom. The aftermatket gasket/filter had to be ordered, and came in a older box with some faded areas. I never had a problem with rubber transmission pan gaskets before, so i wasn't worried about the old looking box it came in. However, after i installed the gasket and filter and torqued everything up on the pan, the transmission gasket leaked near 2 screws. That really let me down! Everything was torqued up properly, in accordance with my car repair manual. So, a few days later i removed the transmission pan again, and the filter was ok but the transmission rubber gasket had split at 1 screw from the inside area of transmission to the ouside area of the trans pan. So, i decided to go to Advance Auto and order a (Felpro) brand of transmission gasket, since i never have had a Felpro brand of gasket leak on me regardless of vehicle or engine. So, after installing the Felpro transmission gasket and torqued everything up, no leaks at all. The Felpro brand of transmission pan gasket i bought was a composite type, maybe composed of paper with like a rubberized coating. With older vehicles be careful of the transmission gaskets you buy for them, because you don't know how long those gaskets have been sitting on the shelf. Felpro gaskets got me through this time, and they aren't expensive and are of very good performance quality.

I thought the gasket you put on the first time was blue and was a firm rubber not cork paper.

Hi, so you applied the grease on the pan before and after you placed the pan gasket on it?

Would you happen to know if the engine oil dipstick tube needs an o-ring on a 98 tahoe? I pulled my dipstick tube after removing my oil pan to replace the pan gasket and don't recall finding an o-ring for the tube after removing it. The Haynes manual doesn't mention anything about the tube...

@Stephen Morris I don’t know for sure but I would say there should be an o-ring or seal that goes in there.

Where do the 2 longer bolts go?

Hello. I have this pan and am looking to install soon. In the instructions it states "be sure to put the seal back into the pump if it comes out with the pick-up tube." Does that only apply to the 4l60e since the 700r4 uses those O-rings? I saw that you used your old (new) filter with the seal on the filter so was wondering.

I'm in the same situation. I have a 700R4. It makes it seem like you use the old seal plus two new orings. However my kit only came with one o ring

Man on my 1995 C1500 the rear trans pan bolts are hidden by the cross member, real pain in the ass. I'm not sure why GM did it like that on the 95 truck.

What’s the difference between a deep so and regular sump? Does it matter on a stock engine
@SuburbanRanch
@SuburbanRanch Жыл бұрын
@Kevin Belport Deep sump holds more oil which helps keep the temperature down. Probably not really needed if you aren’t towing.

nice vid bro ? you add a longer dipstick ?
@SuburbanRanch
@SuburbanRanch 2 жыл бұрын
@Sergio Chavira No need for a longer dipstick, the pan is deeper but the oil level when full is the same.

Do you use the longer filter extension
@SuburbanRanch
@SuburbanRanch Жыл бұрын
@Christian Hadleigh Depends on the transmission, that pan fits a wide range. For our transmission we used the longer extension.

So the problem was with the pan, not the gasket from the last video?
@SuburbanRanch

Maybe. Probably both. This is the combo we recommend.

Well based on your last video. I just wasted my money on two of those gaskets. I would update in the comment section. That people should ignore that video if your going to keep it up. It migt save someone a transmission rebuild.. @SuburbanRanch

The previous video you used the moroso gasket but it didn't show it on this video. Assuming when you were fighting the leak you threw it out. Would you suggest moroso with this pan or the felpro and this pan?
