I really like to use silk thread for hand piecing. There is sooo many hours and work that goes into the blocks/quilt, that I feel it’s worth the price to use silk. And, silk goes through fabric soooo easily with little or no tangles =)

Watching your quick hands as you fold over the edges- so graceful! Thank you for having such a lovely tutorial. I am a paraeducator for a special needs child and she is chronically late for school- I have about an hour in the morning to spend before she gets to school and this method seems like a lovely way to spend my time

I’m glad you mentioned how sore your thumb and wrist can get. I’m using your needles but my thumb and wrist are so sore and I’m now using a brace. I would appreciate your tips on preventing this. I will try the clips. Hopefully that will help.

This is a bit late but this is what I did in this circumstance having watched Dr Eric Berg KZfaq vids. Using the fingers of you other hand firmly press up the front of the forearm and if necessary up your upper arm. You will probably find just below your elbow joint you will go 'ouch'. Stay in that area and firmly pressing move in little circles for 2-3 minutes, Do that 2 or 3 times a day, after 3 days you should notice the pain in your forearm has gone. Better still the pain in your thmb and wrist have gone. I am knitting, crocheting and sewing pain free. Its worth a try.

For the knicker knot and the two stitches at the points are you going through the same hole/stitch or just right beside the first one.

When you go on Pinterest, there are ladies who have 500 or 1000 hexagon all basted in a box. Why?? Me, if I want a flower, I do my 7 hexagons and sew them. Is there an advantage to have so much hexies in a box?? I don’t understand the reason to have so much!! Help?

There is no right or wrong way. I like to jump straight in however I have friends who like to do all their preparation before they start sewing. The only way that matters is the way you like to do it and if you prefer to jump straight in, then you do it that way. I like to see some progress so I prepare a little and sew a little, then prepare some more. =)

Sue I bought one of your Abbie's Dresden patterns and I have a question. Is it better to sew each piece from the center out, or sew each one separately and then put them together. I'm about halfway done with my first one doing them individually, and I'm having a lot of trouble lining them up correctly and dealing with the tails. Are the tails easier to deal with if you do the whole thing from the center out? I'm worried that they don't look like they're going to go together very well when I'm done. Thanks for any help you can offer.

paper allows to you create with shapes that ordinarily either isn't possible or are hard to piece together without. Of course if you're traditionally hand piecing then that is a different technique altogether.

1 inch hexagons are 2 inches in width which will leave you with 1/4 seam allowance if you're using 2.5 inch strips

The glue pen is too messy and frustrating as it fails and the paper pops out at the worst times. Thank you very much, but myself I will stick to thread basting . It or the cheaper Elmers version is, however good for a quick swipe on the back of the paper to tack it down while thread basting. Its way too expensive as well. Not every quilter lives in the suburbs in a ranch style house with a big yard. Tried it and you can keep your overpriced glue sticks. Me, I will buy Elmer's and just swipe the back of the paper to keep it in place. You guys waste your money on this and I will drink a beer on the money I save. And buy another fat quarter or jelly roll.
