I still remember when that very first trailer came out, I was absolutely floored. Still one of the best trailers I've ever seen. Too bad it wasn't really the movie we got.

I think the lesson here is "don't base your decisions on test screenings".

Though I’ve never seen the theatrical cut, I would be interested in seeing if David Ayer made a director’s cut, considering how he didn’t have control of the editing

I instantly fell for Margot Robbie's take on Harley Quinn Captain Boomerang, Killer Croc, and Amanda Waller were great. Jared Leto's Joker wasn't bad, but he should have been the villain.

Margot Robbie was the best part of it, I think. Same with 'The Suicide Squad', and I liked her in 'Birds of Prey' too. Basically, they're worth watching for her at least. Interested in the Barbie movie mainly because she's the titular character. Would have been interesting to see the different cut of this movie too.

the James Gunn Suicide Squad was actually really good it was just released at a really bad time right in the middle of a pandemic when people were avoiding going out to things like theaters.

I enjoyed this movie. Its too bad we didn't get the directors version though.

Guilty pleasure for me. It's got tone issues, you can see the edits and reshoots WB did in a panic after the response to Dawn of Justice. It can be all over the place at times. But it was enough for me to like it. Not saying it was the best. Too bad it won't see what the movie was supposed to be originally

"He wrote the script in six weeks".. so what?? Some of the best films of all time were written in matter of days, and some of them didn't even had a finished script while filming. 'End of watch', one of Ayer's best films was written in 6 days! The film was obviously cut to shreds, David Ayer is a very talented director/writer and he deserves to have his cut released, only then we'll be able to judge the film properly. #ReleaseTheAyerCut

Leto's Joker was awful in this movie but ZSJL brought him back for me. Not outright redeemed him but really had me wanting to see more of him

I got to see it at the first pre screen years ago...and provided some pretty critical comments..then saw the final product...and I kid you not, it somehow got a little worse than the Version I saw

Also to correct the narrator it's a known fact that ZSJL was a big hit for hbo max and the reason we never got a continuation as well as the Ayer Cut is the execs had a vendetta against Snyder and wanted nothing to do with him. The only reason he got to release his cut in the first place is Jason Kilar and AT&T forced Toby Emmerich to let him release it.

When I saw the first trailer, I thought it was gonna be the next WATCHMEN Instead, it became a "Guardians of the Galaxy" rip-off

I was so hyped for this film when the trailer dropped. Then I watched it in theaters. I was really hoping for a dark gritty film about The Suicide Squad

The movie didn't need 800 million to break even. As someone who followed the Snyder era movies religiously I don't know where that info came from lol. I hope one day we get to see Ayers version and see how well it connects to ZSJL

Suicide Squad is a guilty pleasure 😂

I remember all the bad press coming for this movie before it came out, and you know what? I still choose to give it the benefit of doubt since I wanted to be fair. And I saw it and left feeling thoroughly unsatisfied. I had to go home and watch "Assault on Arkham" to wash the bad taste out of my mouth and it's only gotten worse since then. Now I can ignore it entirely since we eventually DID get a good live-action "Suicide Squad" film that I still have fun watching. The best legacy of this film is that it meant the new one didn't have to waste time explaining the concept.

The problem is said right in the video.ever studio now thinks if it doesn't make a BILLION dollars in it's opening weekend it's a failure.just make a good movie already.

I’d say Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is the most controversial DC movie. Suicide Squad had a lot of potential, I hope we get to see the directors cut someday because I think that would be much more interesting film

I liked both Suicide Squad movies. I haven't read the comics though. I could see the problems with the first one, but for me, it was a fun film that received a lot of unnecessary hate. My biggest gripe is that we didn't get enough Joker.

Leto is so awful, there aren't words in the English language to describe just how awful he is. This film was a terrible misfire.

The "Black Hawk Down" vibe makes sense. Make the first half all character, like Jurassic Park. The mission goes bad, and they are left to die. They don't save the day. There is no Kaiju to fight, or ancient demon. They just fail, and Whaller is like "too bad", and just leaves them to die as she turns to plan b. Then right before they die Jared Leto swoops in to evac them in a heli, and they all go party at the club. Post credits, we see the dark side of the Justice League, as they are annoyed with having to save the day after the suicide squad failed.

The "SUISIDE SQUAD" was a freak film, but the "sequal" was pure shit...

No one liked Jared Leto’s Joker. I did.

That’s so surprising to hear the roles Hardy and Gosling were offered, when I first heard their names I had thought for sure Hardy would be offered captain boomerang and Gosling Rick Flag.

Say what you will about the rest of the movie but Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn is up there with RDJ as Tony Stark and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in terms of perfect casting choices

I think the idea, the story of Suicide Squad was good, it was just the execution failed. I still believe The Ayer Cut with his finalized script, vision, & creative control would be good.

Ummm, who's going to tell the guys at JoBlo that World War I was fought in the 1910s, not the 1940s? That was WWII...

Too dark, too erratic, too many forgettable characters, too much CGI you can't figure out, that Joker, it was just a mess. I've seen it a number of times and still struggle to actually follow it

I think this one could be saved with an edit. You could take stuff from the Snyder-verse and make this pretty good. I would rather put that energy into a Justice League Trilogy FanEdit though.

It’s an okay movie BUT, it needs to be about 2-3 times the length so that is viewers would have had time to be “properly” invested into every one of those characters. I’m still a little sad upon looking back that I wasn’t able to become fully immersed in the movie like I’d wanted to be. Welcome to life, no Hollywierd!

Probably a good thing James Gunn stepped in to direct the sequel/soft reboot of this super team of villains forced to do good for the government and show "Peacemaker" and that he will be a co-head on the creative side of things at DC Studios now

It had the best coming attraction. Then I started to hear the buzz how bad it was. When I finally saw it I couldn’t figure out what it was but it lacked that wow factor. Shame

Can't fully judge this movie unless we see David Ayer's true vision for it ... Cause like most of early dceu movie its theatrical cut was botched by WB . With BvS being botched, Suicide Squad being botchier and Josstice League 2017 being the botchiest of botches ... Regardless .. This movie still did a lot better in box office and even won an award ... Unlike James Gunn's TSS ..

it wasnt even controversial. it was just very, very edited and you could tell it was over edited after it was greenlit to be filmed one way. and lets not forget it made a ton of money at the box office so more people liked it than they didnt lol

With WB in massive debt right now I won't be surprised if they decide to release Ayers Cut of Suicode Squad since its mostly finished anyway. Far as the first movie goes its flawed and a little messy but its entertaining close to what we got from 90s style comic book films I would put it right there with something like Batman Forever the flick with theaters made a crap ton especially when you factor in it had no China release along with combined Merchandise sales this flick made a healthy profit for WB so they tried to use that to propel the sequel which flopped. I enjoyed the cast in the film minus Enchantress who just felt character wise like she was from a different movie. David Ayers Joker for me fit the style and tone of the movie with a film that revoles around villians having a crime kingpin Joker with modern tats was fine with me but he was underused.

The issue is that they kill innocent people, so they can't be superheros. Squad fixed this by having them kill bad people, and that's weird.

Being just the right age when Batman & Robin came out, it never bugged me nor did I feel any sense of betrayal. However, upon walking out of this abominable pile of human fecal matter, I finally got a sense of what adult audiences felt when they exited their respective cinemas in June of 1997.
