I actually think Zuko's actor did a great job. Season 1 Zuko was a spoiled brat. He was constantly throwing tantrums when things didn't go his way.

I really disagree with you guys unfortunately on 1 point🥺 If you ACTUALLY remember season 1, Zuko was indeed very whiny and annoying. He had a bad temper, was rude and honestly more childish. Guys he was banished at 13, and is 16 in season 1. Of course he would act that way. Plus, he is a traumatized boy who’s been emotionally abused all his life. The acting is good by Dallas in my opinion ✨ If they made him the EXACT same way as the animation, y’all will ALSO start calling him “corny” still😹 Weirdly enough, most people liked episode 2….but anyways I get it! It’s just episode 2 but don’t worry it’s all character development and you’ll love him later on! If things are too corny remember guys this was an adaptation from a cartoon on nick💀

This show honestly gets better and better the more I re-watch it by myself and through reacts. I LOVE the changes to Suki and Sokka. I love how neither one of them have a clue how to flirt and they're both awkward af! hahaha! They're so damn cute! And I'm just sayin... Maria Zhang could put me in a headlock any day 😂😂😂 It kinda makes sense Suki's mom is so badass too though because she was probably a Kyoshi Warrior her whole life. KYOSHI IS SO BADASS though! Definitely the highlight of this episode as she should be! This Zhao is so interesting to watch, too! He's more multi-dimensional by being so conniving so it's really interesting to see him, especially as he changes through the episodes.

The highlight to this reaction was "Mama's" hair. It was JACKED UP. "Looks like she got destroyed." 😆

Yeah in the 1st episode Sokka shows those slight signs of sexism (makes sense fo his age and as a male leader of a tribe) He showed it a bit when he told Katara that "she must work more around the village anyways instead"😂 or something

I think Katara and Sokka's whole character is changed a bit.. their past is a bit different, as are their traumas, so how they are portraid works with that, but not with the original characters... katara is more of a shy traumatized girl, coming out of her shell, and sokka struggles with his warrior side, which will be explored more... if we don't compare with the original, I like them pretty much. But I do love original Katara (fav character) so I'm a bit sad about that :P

Meesh makes a good point that I also picked up on. I do wish the actors were given more direction(or leeway) to be flawed and exaggerated with their characters, but I’m also glad that you guys give this show grace and an open mind instead of hate. Because at the end of the day it isn’t the actors’ fault. I’m loving the reactions so far per usual! ❤❤ Also side note: I do like the change of the village leader of Kyoshi island being Suki’s mom, especially considering how Kyoshi was in life. Not mad at it. 😎

For Katara, although there might be something with the acting, I think the problem mostly lies with the writing and even maybe the directing. It's not like we are seeing her character trying to be all fiery when getting mad and the actress not accomplishing it, but rather we don't really have those intense moments from her, she does get angry or passionate at some moments but they don't feel like they were written as intense as in the cartoon. I do hope that this is just part of her character arc, as the series goes along she does start displaying a little bit more of her personality so I'm hoping we will be having a little bit of og katara next season.

Kyoshi was 7 feet tall in ATLA. For some reason they shrunk her in TLOK. But NATLA got it right! Gordon Cormier was 5 feet tall when filming & we see Kyoshi clearly at 7 feet or more! All hail our giant queen of the ATLAverse!

We might be living in 2024, but my female co-workers still talk about sexism/misogyny. It's still very much alive and we got lessons about that in the original animated series, which should have been kept intact for this version. The lessons and growth were some of the best things about the original.

Hey Avatar Meesh and Avatar Dee how it been. "Happy Thursday". Great episode as we are introduced to Momo, Suki, Avatar Kyoshi and Commaner Zhao. I like the CGI of Momo and Appa. I like his they nailed it with the casting of General Zhao. At first I was concerned with the news that they was gonna make with Sokka when it comes to him being a sexist because I thought the animated series did a fantastic job of having him learn and grow from that mindset. But I did like the changes that they made in the relationship between Sokka and Suki. As well as him getting some training in learning how to fight. As well, Suki is showing him that he doesn't need to be a bender to be a warrior. Which is true. As in return her telling Sokka how jealous that he get to explore the world. I was surprised of the changes that Aang first chat with his previous life would be Kyoshi instead of Roku. But I do like how she has to remind Aang that despite Aang not wanting to hurt anyone but him doing nothing and running away will result in others getting hurt. And now he must take responsibility of being the Avatar. The fight between The Kyoshi warriors and Zhao and hus men was great. As you see Sokka is improving as well Katara getting better at Waterbending as she fight off Zuko and his men. Causing Zuko and Zhao to leave as Aang turns into Avatar Kyoshi. Itoh forming an alliance with Zhao to keep the secret of the Avatar to themselves as Zuko doesn't trust Zhao. As Zhao sent a message to Firelord Ozai who finally makes an experience as they did a fantastic job in the casting of Firelord Ozai with Daniel Dae Kim.

Love your reaction ladies! I agree with almost all you have said. I don't agree with saying they sound corny with the original show being corny itself. It is also very compacted in the sense that they won't have as much time to flush out the characters, so we can expect the timing in which things happen to be different. I think Kiyoshi was super badass and her warriors looked great as well and I was right there with you when she showed up! I love the entry of Kiyoshi Avatar and showed to Aang what an Avatar can do. and saved the village. but I also love the Soka's character, the way he acted being so emotional, being present for the fights as well, and being funny at the same time, he is strategic guy, his character is versatile. But overall I love this Episode 1 and 2 both

Just finished the series guys and lemme just say...if you have any concens or think they might NOT add something, TRUST me the will wrap things up nicely and tie in episodes so it makes sense for BOTH newcomers and fans! It's not perfect, but its a very good adaptation in my opinion. The hate you see is moreso people who have not even watched passed episode 5. Or who are obsessed of not having a 1 to 1. Cause it gets better and most who watch the finale (like myself) changed our minds about the show *as a whole*😂 and not just judging single episodes

The CGI looks incredible in Avatar The Last AirBender! I don’t understand why some people said this CGI seems terrible, but I thought it was terrific for me because look! That's cool to see!

A couple of considerations. One is that the overall story is being compressed into 8 episodes. The idea of sexism will show up later(we can discuss when it comes up), making Sokka's sexism on Kyoshi Island a little much. As for the corniness, the compressed story moves by pretty fast, so I think it makes some things more obvious and harder to miss. Side note on the playful side adventures: the target audience for the animated series skewed pretty young. So the goofy moments were more appropriate. In live action, not so much. With only 8 episodes, they would have taken up too much time.

I was binging a lot of anime's over the past month and then this show got recommended to me. I never watched the cartoon but heard of the 2010 movie and knew it was bad. I feel Katara's actress really gets a bad rep by all reactors. As someone who never wathced the cartoons I think she played the role of a gifted child that is dealign with the weight of seeign her mother burn and compltely believing it to be her fault perfectly. I think the cartoon version that you all like may be an unrealisting potrayal of a girl in that situation but she does have sass that whenever it comes out in later epoisodes is really earned. As a guy I feel that Sass from a girl shoudl not be just for sass sake, If she was shown liek that it would be off putting. later on in teh show whenver she says sassy things there is a lot of weigh behinnd it becuase deep down she is water. Her nature and character is all water . I hope too many of you youtubers don't depress the actress and the creative minds of the show becuase I think they are doing a good job of slowly reveling what she will ultimately be as most of you guys have spoilt already.. A blood bender that defeats Azula , if thats the case then I think I really like her in the show. pardon typos.

My favorite episode of the series personally. Ian Ousley (Sokka) and Maria Zhang (Suki) nailed their roles in this episode and had me convinced. Really looking forward to seeing their chemistry on screen in Books 2 and 3 if they get future seasons. And as someone who has binged the whole season already, don't worry about the character development, the way about it still makes sense.

After seeing the whole season, I think one element of Katara is that her arc is different. She's starting as a sheltered quiet girl, rather than the brash and energetic Katara from the animated series.

Good review. Live action Sokka comes closest to capturing animated Sokka. I didn't like the portrayal of Zhao, though I applaud the actor's chops Definitely didn't like the actor's portrayal of Zuko. I don't think the actress portraying Katara is up to the task. She should already be portraying Katara as more leader-ish, more take-charge.

I think what you guys are picking up on re: Katara is the removal of her story beats. For example, Aang no longer sees her first when he wakes up. She's no longer the one to realise that he's been in the ice berg for 100 years, or to explain the war to him, or to bring him out of the avatar state. She no longer gets frustrated when he's running around with all the fangirls in the Kyoshi because that doesn't happen, etc. Almost all of her story moments are either given to other characters, missing, or diluted into something more passive. Like she no longer cracks the ice berg out of anger - she's just trying to pull the boat. It's a diluted moment and so her character feels diluted because she has no real moments of expression. On top of that, she's been written as very shy, very demure. She no longer seems to be the one taking the maternal responsibility over the group. So the result is a character who looks like Katara but does not feel like Katara. I don't think the actress has much to work with.

Removing the flaws from these characters is the show's greatest flaw. I was looking forward to a fiery Katara. Where was her jealousy with how well Aang had taken to Waterbending... and he doesen't even do that. Sokka's sexism didn't need to be as overt as the cartoon's but his character's growth is one of the best on the show. Look how interesting Zuko is! But it's a great show and I can't wait for the next season already

I have finished the live action avatar and must say i loved it, must admit Zuko is my fav character his story is great, Aang is okay (which i suppose if u are a fan of the anime might rub some people the wrong way) i have started on the anime because i loved the live action so much however to be honest i have watched 8 or 9 episodes so far and its not doing it for me so far, i have heard that later on i think in season 2 it gets better so i will carry on watching it. i can see why some people might not like the live action it does miss some things out and the order is not the same and i have heard they combine various stories together. i dont think u can put the (and i will say it here) the child like humour in a live action it would just to me seem cheesey (eg riding on otter penguins) this is a show for young adults and upwards the anime to me is children and adults who want to relive the feeling of when they watched it when they were young
