Guitar Solo Time!
Sunny is a Jazz tune written by Bobby Hebb and before I heard the actual song I found this backing track and started improvising a guitar solo to it.
It's only now I hear some similarities to the actual song, though I had no clue about the melody before hand. I recorded this with my Epiphone Casino, which seemed kinda "hip" for a jazz guitar track.
Though Bobby Hebb wrote the original tune, I created a new melody/solo over the existing chords. In the world of Jazz, this is known as a contrafact and is used frequently to create new melodic material over pre-existing chord changes. A famous example of this is when Jazz musicians use the term Rhythm Changes, meaning to play the chord sequence of Gershwin's I've Got Rhythm with the addition of new melody on top.
I've always had a real curious appreciation of Jazz and channel some of the few guitar phrases that I've enjoyed from Jazz/Blues/Rock masters.
