I'll give you one guess and it rhymes with "hero". But hey, a Funko pop of it? I can get a twelve dollar thing to display that people can go "Oh hey you like this thing?"? That's their audience.

That may be, but I think people would be willing to save up the $10-$20 and get the more accurate one. Then again, I'm a toy collector, so perhaps I'm different than most people when it comes to stuff like this, but I'd rather just wait until I have the extra money, and get the better one. What I REALLY don't get is when I see other toy collectors, who are aware of the nicer figurines, buy Funko Pops. Heck, sometimes they buy the Funko and the nicer one, making the money thing pointless in that case. Granted, it doesn't help that Funko managed to get every friggin' license under the sun. Like, some characters unfortunately are only available as Funko Pops as a result of this. You're almost guaranteed that if you're into a piece of media, that there's going to be a Funko Pop of it.

Amen brother. I think that when someone collects stuff because of the aesthetics of said stuff, there's a certain bar of quality that needs to be surpassed for them to display them. This bar differs for everyone. For example, if a Haruhi Suzumiya funko pop existed, I wouldn't ever buy it, since it just looks bad to me. Yeah, it's merch, and I can never have enough Haruhi merch, but it would actually detract from the place where I'd display it in my opinion. I'd rather display nothing than a funko. I guess that for me, that bar of quality is just high compared to mainstream collectors. I even know people who buy bootlegs of nendo's and scales, fully aware of the fact that they're bootlegs. You'd think that money is the issue, but they have like 30 bootlegs, for that money you could buy like 5-10 scales, or 15-20 nendo's. I guess that either they just can't distinguish the difference in quality between a bootleg and the real thing, or a nendo and a funko, or they just straight up care more about the quantity of figures they own than the quality.

I mean, general pricing for scales is like 80-140 dollarydoos, so really, all you wanna look at is if that scale looks 4-7 times better on your shelf than a funko, and the answer is literally always yes, even if you're buying Griffin-tier scales.

A nendo only costs the price of 2 to 3 funko's though. That's a very good price when the difference in quality is way bigger.

I'm not talking about craftsmanship here, I'm purely talking about the respective art styles of Nendoroids and Funko Pops and the demographics they appeal to. I'm personally indifferent about both products, but I know way more people who prefer Pops over Nendoroids because they think the latter is "weeb trash".

I don't know how people see Nendoroids as "weeb trash" but don't see Funko Pops as "normal trash".

But is that reason enough? I don't want to spend $50 for Chinese food, so I'll just have this soy sauce packet. The alternative shouldn't be something worthless, it should be a decent middle ground that fits in the budget. Panda Express, or a Dollar a Scoop place.

But WHY do people think they look fine? We get upset about it because someone COULD make good figures that are cheap, hell Funko makes some of them, but for some reason these no-effort terrible designs get popular? I'd rather have nothing than a Funko Pop. If I'm going to have something take up space in my home I'd rather it be something actually nice to look at. I agree that some of them look fine, but there are so many of them that it makes me weep at the waste of plastic being used to make a multitude of generic figures (lots of TV show characters end up bascially unidentifiable) or characters that already have cheap but more accurate toys made of them (i.e. many cartoon characters. There are bloody MLP ones when that series is owned by a toy company!) The main point of anger, as Woolie articulates, is that the popularity doesn't make sense to us. I'm not into Nendoroids or other chibi figures personally, but I get the appeal - they're "cute" versions of characters. I can't see Funko Pops as anything but "lazy" versions of characters.
