You ground off the zinc coating on the bolts meaning you were just testing steel on steel bonding. Zinc metal is much too soft to make a bolt from and many metal parts you find at the hardware store are zinc coated to prevent rust like your original angle bracket. I really appreciate your channel and am only trying to help, not criticize.

Thanks! Appreciate the feedback. In my earlier video, I sanded and cleaned the zinc-coated brackets the same way and the bond was very weak. I repeated the test several times and got the same poor results. Maybe it was because the pulling force was off-center?

HOLD IT! You have to carry that weight for like an hour. Just doing a quick lift is inaccurate.

Actually 3 to 5 minutes is accepted for "holding the load".

That's impressive. Can you redo the test with a smaller interface between the metal parts? That way you can cause them to fail at values that you can measure with that setup.

The pull strength is very high, but the sheer strength will be very low. Do another test and apply a shearing force to the two bolts. The bolts will break apart. I've tried super gluing metal pieces together, and while the bond seems to be very strong, if you apply a lateral sheering force to the two parts, the joint will EASILY break apart. That's because the surfaces of the two metal parts are relatively smooth, and the only structure holding against a sheering force at the joint is the actual breaking strength of the polymerized cyanoacrylate glue, which is a fairly weak plastic

How does this test work exactly? Like wouldnt you measure the glue weight up until it breaks? Idk if I looked wrong but I didnt see any of the vonds break at all, meaning it definitely couldve taken more weight right? Especially since 300 pounds is like a tenth of what the steel to steel glue strength is rated with those bolts that were at least 1 square inch....

Yeah… 360 lbs was the limit of my test rig but still pretty impressive strength for a drop. I’ll rig something else up in the future to handle more weight. Thanks.

To findcout the full strength, of different metals you should sustain a weight like you've done, but then pull to destruction. The drop of glue is the same, but wider on washer head, and type of steel might make some difference.

Thanks. The super glue was stronger than I anticipated and I couldn't safely add more weight. I'll redo the test in the future with a new rig. 😎

Bro, you are full of crap. Even on Instron testing machines, they don't hold the force continuously for hours. They pull until it breaks suddenly. Bro.

Yeah… just an experiment to prove it to myself because I don’t believe everything I see on packaging. Just for fun… I might hold myself up like in the Krazy Glue commercials.

Sorry but this is a very poor way of conducting an experiment. You really should have attached a gauge that can measure extremely high load levels and loaded the bolts until they break apart. That really tells us how strong the glue is on different materials.

Thanks! I agree. I didn’t expect the glue to hold that much weight. At some point I’ll setup another test rig that can safely handle more weight. 😎
