What if Yatterwan and Yatterking from the 2008 "Yatterman" series were in Super Robot Wars? An ability showcase.
"Yatterman" is a 62 superhero comedy anime series based on the 1977 anime "Time Bokan series: Yatterman". A remake that closely follows the format of the original, the series has a low emphasis on plot, instead using a set episodic formula to enable strong comedy. A movie, "Yatterman: Shin Yattermecha Daishuugou! Omocha no Kuni de Daikessen da Koron!", was released towards the end of the series and is referenced in the three-part finale. As opposed to most of the TV show, the movie features a dramatic storyline, although comedy is still present.
The series follows hobbyist robot builders Gan and Ai as they don their superhero identities, Yatterman #1 and Yatterman #2, to stop the evil Doronbo Gang. Each week, the Doronbo Gang are tasked by the mysterious God of Thieves Dokorobei to travel to a new location and steal an artifact which may be a Dokoro Ring; should they collect all the Dokoro Rings, whatever they wish for will be granted. The series notably gives the Doronbo Gang similar or even greater focus than the heroes, and the Yattermecha created by Gan and Ai have human-like personalities of their own.
Besides slapstick, quirky characters, frequent fourth wall breaks, and wordplay, the series also often makes use of parody and pop culture references. This includes not only references to mecha anime such as Neon Genesis Evangelion, Mobile Suit Gundam or Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, but even pop culture of non-Japanese origin, such as the TV series 24, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, or Spider-Man. Similarly, the series features many cameos, not only through numerous background appearances of other Tatsunoko characters such as Go Mifune (Speed Racer) or the Gachaman team, but also from a variety of Japanese celebrity guest stars such as Mino Monta and the Kanou Sisters.
