I reckon keep trying; either source a bigger charger, or go down the old-school Detroit route and flow a turbo into the Eaton!

I've watched this with fascination and must admit to thinking you'd be flogging a dead horse or in your case a dead kangaroo. What you found out is why you don't get any supercharged diesel cars, firstly superchargers as you know are mechanical and straight away you're losing power also fuel economy drops, turbo chargers run off waste gas so no power loss but can suffer from turbo lag. Now to get around this problem starts getting expensive and complicated as you would have to create a supercharged turbo set up and to be honest it's not worth doing in your situation but would be great entertainment for us, so just stay with the turbo set up plus working with a turbo supplier is even better as they won't want their product getting a bad name so should go the extra mile for reliability. Win win situation. At the end of the day it was worth a go, as they say nothing ventured nothing gained and it was enjoyable to watch. Oh just one more thing, I'm with your dad when a cold beer is involved 😅. Great engineering and full respect for endeavours. Gary 🇬🇧🇬🇧

My crd zd30 basic setup with exhaust gfb v2 boost controller 21psi factory garret turbo 175hp 470nm been super reliable for years. Turbo upgrade wise ufi is a great option or the demon ones are good for a budget. I thought about injector and turbo upgrade but $$$ vs gains and reliability makes no sense for my purpose thing goes everywhere as is. Great to see experimentation and keen to see where this goes with new turbo!!!

I wouldn't expect a lot more boost into a 3 litre than you get in the factory 3.8 application at the same charger rpms.

could your issue not be the fact that diesel engines run much higher compression. so you need to be supplying more air than a petrol engine would need? If i recall the charger came off a petrol engine. i hope you get it to work as I would be interested in doing something similar to my patrol.

Spinning the charger at 20k probably won't give you twice the boost. The eton becomes less and less efficient once the rpm passes it's peak level. I wouldn't know to much about oil burners. But the fact that eton blowers aren't used don't used diesels from factory, kinda says all you need to know. Was interesting to watch though. And it was probably making better power off idle than the turbo ever would.
