You left out how Jean's telepathic powers emerged when she was a child. She was playing with her friend, and then her friend ran out into the street and was hit by a car. Her friend's accident and death catalyzed her powers. That was why Xavier restrained her telepathic abilities.

Spider-Mans Legacy Which joker? I don't think the joker is funny at all. Mark Hamil's joker, his jokes sucked, even when i was a kid, he was weak sauce...for babys, for little kids... Jack Nicholsons joker wasn't the joker, it was just jack Nicholson with clown makup Cesar romero? Fuck you. any of the jokers jokes have been at the literal expense of someone who he's going to kill or try to kill at least... and if you find jokes someone makes at the expense of a potential victim, funny, then Heath Ledger is more the joker than anyone else, ever.

Eric Coldfire Nah-ah! The first Phoenix death then the New X-Men death. You can even include the death of her clone is you want. Her number of deaths are usually taken out of proportion. She has been dead for about a decade now!

In all of the Marvel Universe, Jean Grey is by far, my favorite super-hero! Unfortunately, this all-too-quick recap left out crucial facts about her origin. Jean's mutant powers manifested earlier than most, at the age of 10 instead of 13, when she witnessed her childhood friend hit by an automobile. Without any preconceived thought or knowledge of "how-to", her inherent telepathic abilities linked her mind to that of her dying friend. It was later revealed that an unseen cosmic entity severed that connection to save Jean's mind and soul from following her friend to the afterlife. Why did it do that? Long story short, Jean's very soul was formed from a fragment of the aforementioned entity who recognized a part of itself in Jean. The whole prepubescent manifestation, and her near-death experience rendered Jean nearly catatonic for years. After her parents sought help from many a psychiatric professional, it was only Professor Xavier who was able to pull her out of her catatonic state of mind, thanks to his telepathic abilities. For the sake of healing a fragile mind, Xavier placed "psychic circuit-breakers" in Jean's mind to withhold access to her telepathy until she was mentally, emotionally, and physically mature enough. Jean was recruited by Xavier long before she came to the school as a student. Her mental powers were used by Xavier to calibrate his machine, Cerebro. Jean was not initially a fan of the second group of X-Men that were recruited to save them from the island being of Krakatoa (sp?) that had imprisoned the first five X-Men. In fact, she was downright rude and blunt towards Wolverine's unwanted advances. I think in one instance, she may have even fought the little runt after he tussled with Angel. Enter, The Phoenix. For a very long time, it was not known that Jean and Phoenix were not one and the same individual. It was assumed by all, even Xavier and Moira McTaggart, that Jean's "Phoenix" persona was merely the ultimate expression of her limitless potential as a psionic. Not even Jean realized that she was not who she thought she was. As for the birth of the Dark Phoenix, it was neither Jean's desire, nor her powers that got out of control. She did not become power-hungry or driven insane by it! Her mind was targeted by another telepath and an illusionist. Emma Frost, The White Queen of the Hellfire Club, had given a special device to Jason Wyngarde, a.k.a. Mastermind, to be used to tap in to Jean's mind. Their goal was to subvert an angel to a demon, so to speak. The sought to convert her from good to evil, to make her The Black Queen of their pathetic little group by means of giving her a taste of the darker side of the spectrum of human emotions. Jean was ultimately unable to cope with the dichotomy of "good versus evil" and willingly gave in to it, hungering and thirsting for the bevvy of new experiences and sensations it afforded her! She fought, and easily defeated each of the X-Men in order to cut her ties to the life she led with them and to our world. Although defeated, she never had even the slightest desire to kill any of them ... least of all Cyclops. Nor was she ever so-inclined as to pursue an intimate relationship with Wolvy. THOSE ARE MY MAJOR GRIEVANCES with the crap-fest that is the third installment in the "Wolverine and his Amazing Friends" movies, forevermore acknowledged by me as X3: The Murder and Rape of Cyclops and Phoenix.

***** I agree. It was retconned in order to bring back Jean Grey for X-Factor which is how I first got interested in the X-Men. It was in the 1980s. I am 43 years old, and I did read the X-Factor comics back in the 1980s as a teenager. I didn't read the Phoenix saga until 1991. Therefore, I only knew Jean Gray in X-Factor before I learned about the Phoenix. I have been downloading and reading the earliest X-Men comics . I really prefer Jean Grey as just Marvel Girl. I love the Scott-Jean pairing, and I strongly dislike Wolverine added as a love triangle. As for Emma Frost, ummm....no comment. I am glad that they brought Jean Grey back in teenage form, and I hope that they end up bringing the adult Jean Grey back. In the meantime, I just read the old comics to read about Jean Grey.

My favorite female superhero! Why? It's interesting that she was once a member than turned into a force of evil by the Phoenix Force, and she sacrificed herself to save the X-Men, in one of the most tragic comic deaths in history.

Phillip Norman have you read comics recently with Wolverine in it? cause i didn't see the comic wolverine in the movies :S closest they got, was the mansion invasion. personally I didn't like 90% of the casting... the only casting that was good, was Xavier, Magneto, original Mystique, and Kurt.

One of my favorite X-men! It really bugs me that Jean and Prof. X are always missing some how. What I like best about both of them is that they act as therapist for other mutants. They actually have bigger roles than what they're portrayed in the movies. Shame that such compelling characters are reduced to supporting characters for Wolverine.

X-Men and Spiderman need TV shows like how Daredevil is doing on Netflix...there is just WAY too much story and character development needed for these stories that you cannot fit into 2 hrs...or hope it fit in a TRILOGY that takes 4-5 yrs to release every film...especially an amazing storyline like, The Dark Phoenix Saga or Venom/Carnage stories

Alex Simmons The only problem with that is all the special effects they'd need for the mutant powers. I don't think a TV network would want to spend that kind of money. I'd rather see these stories play out in the movies for that reason. They just need to make a lot more movies! These characters deserve a lot of movies to properly tell their stories. It does suck that we have to wait so long, though!

I agree however every tv show they attempt to make always ends up being crappy and flopping (unless it's Marvel's Agent Carter which unfortunately only lasted 2 seasons which is total and absolute BULLSHIT) so it would be bad and sorely disappointing if they were to butcher the characters and plot lines for tv shows starring characters like Jean Grey and Spider-Man. I absolutely love the idea of there being tv shows about them but it is simply too good to be true cuz for some odd reason, makers of the marvel tv shows seem to have no idea what they are doing.

The Last a Stand gets a lot of hate for it's take on The Phoenix Saga, but I actually enjoyed the movie, yeah it had some flaws but overall I really liked it. I love Famke Janssen's portrayals Jean Grey. Especially how she haunts Logan's mind in The Wolverine.

Calm down, people. Fox didn't ruin *everything*. Don't forget that Hugh Jackman is the best Wolverine, and they probably did way better by choosing Evan Peters to play Quicksilver than Marvel did by choosing Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

AlariTheProtector That's exactly why I said "probably". After seeing Godzilla, I found him and Olsen to be pretty dry, but maybe it was because they didn't fit the roles or something. But I'm still going to watch Avengers 2 with an open mind because for all we know they could do Wanda and Pietro justice :)

Good questions i've allways wanted answered myself. I've sometimes heard that Dark Phoenix is the most powerful Mutant out of them all. But the same goes for Apocalypse. + Hes upgraded himself whit Alien tech. And hes the oldest Mutant of them all. HAHA... Guess we gotta ask Stan Lee. I've trie to ask fans similar questions in the past. Usually ends up whit them fighting over who is best or something. In the end they never answer my question... Rather they answer anoter question wich is ''Wich is your favorite''.

***** Well, she's an Omega level mutant. By definition, Omegas are the most powerful mortal beings in the universe. Supposedly engineered to withstand the Phoenix Force. Although last I checked five "ordinary" mutants absorbed the Phoenix's power, so there's that.

***** Maybe you're right. Although I was sure I read somewhere that one of the reasons Celestials created Omega mutants was to control the Phoenix Force. But come to think about it, maybe I read that someone categorised Omega level telepaths as ones being able to control Phoenix inside them. But still Cyclops and Collosus aren't even telepaths and they did quite a good job managing this cosmic entity. Never the less, Jean Gray's power supposedly has no upper limit. But I ask you this: would Gambit with all his power defeat Dark Phoenix? I mean, this is the mutant that once had almost infinite potential. He could charge and explode things at sight. By gods, he could transform his body into pure energy and travel in time. Would he with his unlimited energy contol power be a match for Phoenix?

***** I can see you, sir, know your comics. Ofcourse the Phoenix Force is a cosmic entity with almost omnipotent power. But when it inhabits a mortal being I don't think it can retain all of it. And as I understand it, it needs a powerful telepath to trully connect their minds. So although the Phoenix Force can't be destroyed (or at least nobody has figured out how to do it yet), it's hosts can (although they wield incredible power beyond any mortal being in the universe). I wonder. There are some mutants or other superpowered folk with the abbility to alter reality. Like Scarlett Witch. Couldn't they conjure a reality in wich Phoenix is nonexistant or at least less powerful? Well, I guess not, otherwise someone would've come up with that a long time ago. Maybe it's the kind of force without wich life in the universe wouldn't be possible. Like if there were no Celestials in the beginning there would be no life at all, so creating a reality without them would negate creation itself. Aah, it's all so timey wimey wibbly wobbly stuff :)

***** True that. But didn't Jean repair the timeline, like, projecting herself to Cyclops in her past or something? Well, it doesn't relly matter. Another thing that came to my mind. What if Phoenix possesed a being as powerfull as itself? For examle Death - she likes to sometimes take corporeal form. I think Death in that state can easly contain the Phoenix Force being an abstract entity itself and all that. Or Eternity. Or maybe even some Celestial's armour (isn't one of them speculated to be God him/herself?). Would that new entity become an Omni-God? A corporeal being able to create or destroy omniverses, to have controll over every sub atomic particle in all multiverses at any given time? Wouldn't it become a creature with levels of power not even gods could comprehend? I guess these are meaningless speculations as such a powerfull being wouldn't be of much use in comics.

Your not alone, when i first started liking marvel i saw the movies first then read the comic and saw how completely different they were but i still love the movies.
