The greatest media interpretation of the Wasp ( who is actually JANET Van Dyne) outside of the comic books will always be the Avengers Earth Mightiest Heroes version. Avengers EMH also features the greatest media interpretations of Ant-Man (Both the Hank Pym & Scott Lang versions), Giant Man, YellowJacket, Whirlwind, & especially Ultron.

While I am not a huge fan of either character as heroes, I am more a fan of their complex characterization. It is nice to see that Wasp is 1) the first female Avenger and 2) wasn't created strictly for sexual purposes. The rejection by Hank puts that "love interest" status on hold, which is good for character building and individuality.
@44excalibur9 жыл бұрын
*Hank Pym NEVER abused Janet Van Dyne. That's a myth created by comic book geeks who don't know their history. Hank Pym was involved in a laboratory accident which caused the Pym particles in his body to become unstable and affect his brain, resulting in memory loss, schizophrenia, and dissociative personality disorder, which led to the creation of Yellowjacket. Abuse is an ongoing pattern of behavior, which never happened between Hank and Janet. Hank hit her only once during the height of his Pym particle madness as she was trying to stop him from launching a robot attack on a courtroom in an attempt to win his way back into the Avengers. Clearly Hank was no longer in his right mind, and that's why Jan forgave him later on, because she knew the unstable Pym particles were driving him crazy. And writer Jim Shooter already stated that the incident was the result of a miscommunication between him and the artist who drew the panel, and that Hank was never supposed to intentionally hit Janet.* *I notice that none of you ever mention Peter Parker hitting his pregnant wife, Mary Jane Watson during the Spider-Clone storyline after he was tricked into believing that he was the clone and that Ben Reilly was the real Peter Parker. Peter went into a rage and attacked Ben, and when Mary Jane tried to stop him, he screamed at her to leave him alone and back-fisted her across the room and against the wall, leaving her bloodied. Did I mention she was carrying his child at the time? At least Hank wasn't in his right mind because his brain was being affected by unstable subatomic particles; Peter has no such excuse. So if you're going to let Peter Parker off the hook for being "The Amazing Wife-Beater," then I don't wanna hear you calling Hank Pym abusive, okay? Let it go.*
@44excalibur9 жыл бұрын
Mitchell Abercrombie Nope, that's not true. The writer of Hank Pym's storyline during that period is Jim Shooter, and Shooter has said on the record that "Hank Pym is not a wife-beater." Those are Shooter's exact words, by the way. First of all, abuse is a pattern of behavior over a period of time. Hank was never abusive to Janet. He struck here that one time, and that was during a moment of Pym-particle induced madness. What happened, and what you all conveniently forget, is that Hank was involved in a laboratory accident that made the Pym particles in his body unstable. It affected him physically, as he lost his ability to control his size-changing power, and it affected him mentally, resulting in amnesia, depression, schizophrenia, and dissociative personality disorder. Have you forgotten that Yellowjacket started off as a alternate personality of Hank's? Or that time Hank had amnesia where he lost 5 years of his life and thought he was still Ant-Man, and he attacked his fellow Avengers because he didn't recognize any of them? Hank's brain was Swiss-cheese by this point, and that one, single panel that you all obsess over happened when he was attempting to launch a robot attack on a courthouse and Janet tried to stop him, so Hank was clearly out of his mind at that point. Now, Jim Shooter went on record saying that this scene did not happen the way he wrote it. Shooter wrote the scene with Janet being accidentally struck by Hank's arm as he was flailing about wildly, trying to keep her away from him. But the artist who drew the panel drew it as a deliberate back-handed slap, and by the time the mistake was caught it was too late to correct it as it had already gone to print. You people have been complaining about that one panel for years afterwards, even though it was the result of a miscommunication between the artist and the writer and Hank was clearly not in his right mind at the time and not in control of his actions. Peter Parker slapped the hell out of his pregnant wife, Mary Jane Watson, and knocked her across a room during the Spider-Clone storyline, and I don't hear anyone calling him a wife-beater, so I don't want to hear any of this garbage about Hank Pym anymore, got it? Not unless you're prepared to call Peter Parker the Amazing Wife-Beater.
@44excalibur9 жыл бұрын
Marcus Price Yeah, Thor is awesome. Too bad he keeps getting replaced, first by an alien, and now by a woman. And I'm not against Peter Parker, I just stated that it was hypocrisy to hate on Hank Pym for something that wasn't his fault, and something that Peter Parker got away with.

44excalibur It's a bit similar to Avengers Earths's Mightiest Heroes. I'm not sure if you have watched that show, but in that show a lot of episodes after Hank quitting the Avengers team (cuz he was guilty of the Ultron threat and didn't like the Avengers' way of violence) he began to work on some Science project, as well as the micro prison. Though he was far to obsessed with his lab, barely slept and ate nothing but pizza, his rain began to suffer and started a mental breakdown. Hank gained Multiple Personalty Disorder and became Yellow Jacket.
@44excalibur8 жыл бұрын
Zuhayr Entertainment: The Official Channel Yes, I watched Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and you don't just "gain multiple personality disorder." Dissociative personality disorder is ether something you're born with, or something that happens as a result of post-traumatic stress. In Hank's case, in the comics, it was the result of the laboratory accident where a chemical spill caused a radioactive gas to be released which affected the Pym particles in Hank's body, making them become unstable. This is what made Hank temporarily lose his ability to control his size-changing, as well as what caused his schizophrenia and alternate Yellowjacket personality. What amazes me is how many people conveniently forget about that and just lay all the blame on Hank for something that wasn't even his fault, any more than becoming the Hulk was Bruce Banner's fault.

Ant-Man can grow and shrink in size. His maximum height is 100 feet. When shrunk he retains the same strength as when he is normal size but becomes far harder to hit as a target. He does not control ants. He communicates with them. His helmet receives from the Ants, decode/translates, and transmits messages back to them. He simply asks for help. He can shrink so far down he discovered an entirely new subatomic universe called the Microverse. He is trained in Judo.

No the first Avenger was the Wasp, from the very beginning. Black Widow was the first female avenger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Avengers Assemble cartoon, while the wasp was the first in other continuities (but there may some expections too)
@44excalibur9 жыл бұрын
Leave it to Hollywood, Kevin Feige, and Marvel Studios to fuck up something that should be so easy you could do it blindfolded, and something that even the animated 'Earth's Mightiest Heroes' series managed to get right. You don't make an Ant-Man film about Scott fucking Lang, okay? Especially not if you're making a shared movie universe where the Avengers exist! Edgar Wright's original Ant-Man script was never intended to be part of any larger film universe and didn't have anything to do with The Avengers at all. That's because Wright didn't want to make a superhero movie, he wanted to make a comedic heist film, which is why he chose to make it about Scott Lang, with Hank Pym as an old man who mentors Lang in a kind of "Batman Beyond" scenario. But if you know that you're going to make a shared cinematic universe will all of these Marvel Superheroes appearing in their own films and eventually teaming up in an Avengers movie, you make Ant-Man about Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne as Ant-Man and The Wasp! It's that fucking simple, people! Hank Pym is a superhero, not Scott Lang. Hank Pym is the super genius scientist who creates the Pym particles, which can alter the mass of any object. Hank Pym is the one who co-founds the Avengers with Janet, Tony Stark, Thor, and the others. Hank Pym is the one who creates Ultron. Hank Pym is a powerhouse who can either reduce his size to near-microscopic levels while retaining his full-sized strength, which gives him greater speed, agility, and durability, or he can increase his size anywhere from 10 feet to 100 feet in height, attaining near-Hulk level strength and physical power. Hank Pym can also fly through the use of bio-mechanical wings and project bio-electric disruptor blasts, or "bio-stings," similar to Janet Van Dyne. Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne are the ones who have all the story and history with The Avengers; Scott Lang has no story arc or history with the Avengers, and all he can do is shrink. He's the far weaker character in terms of powers and story, and making this film about Scott Lang while making Hank an old man and Janet dead - totally eliminating Hank and Janet from their own story - is sheer stupidity. Hank and Janet deserved to be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Avengers far more than Scott Lang did, and it wasn't worth throwing them under the bus for Edgar Wright, especially when the Brit bastard only ended up walking away from the movie altogether. It isn't fair to their characters or to their fans, and it isn't fair making us wait years or even decades until Hank and Janet finally get their due onscreen. Fuck Edgar Wright and Fuck Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios!
@44excalibur9 жыл бұрын
AgentGodzillaRangerPrime1701 Edgar Wright is mostly to blame, but he doesn't run Marvel Studios. Kevin Feige is president of Marvel Studios and he approved this BS, so he must share some of the blame.

44excalibur I see that Evangeline Lily is playing a character called "Hope Van Dyne". Is she supposed to be the MCU version of The Wasp? I admit to knowing absolutely nothing about "Ant-Man". I grew up with Spider-Man and The X-Men.
@44excalibur9 жыл бұрын
***** Well, it's important to remember that Hank Pym isn't just Ant-Man, he's also Giant-Man, which is something the MCU is also leaving out. I have no idea what the MCU will do with Evangeline Lily's character, but Hope Van Dyne doesn't exist in the Marvel universe. This is what is so insulting about what the MCU is doing with Hank and Janet, making Hank an old man and taking Janet out of the story. "Hope Van Dyne" is loosely based on a character called "Hope Pym," who is a character from an alternate future reality where the Avengers are all dead, and the Hank and Janet from that universe had a daughter named Hope who became a villain called "Red Queen." But again, that's a character from an alternate future reality, like Back To The Future. That character doesn't exist in the regular Marvel universe because Hank and Janet divorced in the comics in the 1980's and never had any children. And even if they did, they are both still in their 30's in the comics and not old enough to have an adult daughter. I grew up with Spider-Man as well, but I know Ant-Man because I also grew up reading the Avengers comics, where Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne were featured as central characters. And it's an insult that they're not in the Avengers in the MCU since they're two of the founding members and the Avengers were their main title, as they never really had their own title. And replacing them with Scott Lang, a D-list character, just because of some script that Edgar Wright wrote back during the Bush administration that was never supposed to have anything to do with the Avengers or the MCU is a slap in the face to their characters, and is the reason why I cannot stand Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, and if I ever meet the man in person he and I are going to have words, make no mistake. Hank and Janet deserved way better than this.

Fun fact about ant-man, he used to beat the shit out of her in an abusive relationship. In one story I think she died because of it. She was either brought back or the story was deemed non-canon because of how shitty it made people feel. Either way, it's a dark stain on the image of ant-man.

Could they have gotten more cliche with the love story. She's interested in him because he has "handsome good looks" and he's interested in her because she reminds him of his dead wife. WTF?
