CLIP DESCRIPTION:
A man with a machine gun shoots down several police cars from the top of a building, until Superman (Brandon Routh) arrives to stop him.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The Man of Steel returns to the big screen with this continuation of the icon's film legacy that picks up after the events of the first two Christopher Reeve films. Some time has passed since the events of Superman II and the world has gotten used to life without Superman (Brandon Routh) ever since his puzzling disappearance years earlier. Upon his return, he finds a Metropolis that doesn't need him anymore, while Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth) has moved on with another young suitor Richard White (James Marsden) in the meantime. As the hero begins to tackle the fact that life on Earth has continued without him, he is forced to face his old arch-nemesis Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey) and restore the life that was once his. Directed by Bryan Singer from a script by the writing team of X-Men 2, Superman Returns marks a return to the screen for the man in tights, whose production history has seen many failed attempts including a famous near-miss from Tim Burton and Kevin Smith with Nicolas Cage in the lead role, along with another from director McG and writer J.J. Abrams (Lost). Singer eventually won the prestigious gig when he pitched the idea to not tackle the origin story again, but continue with director Richard Donner's original vision.

I think the bullet/eye thing was to use some great, then-new CGI effects to show us something we'd known, but never had seen... Every bit of Superman is indestructible. Maybe we'd wondered about some details like, does he blink so his super eyelid can take the hit... Does he blink or flinch instinctively? This was a definitive hell-no answer... Go ahead, shoot that gun point blank into his eye, up his nostril, down his throat, up his... ... HE DON'T CARE!

You guys obviously know nothing about guns. A minigun/rail gun will destroy body armor like swiss cheese. Those rds are armor piercing. That guy was probably just a hard core criminal and was just ignorant of how powerful Superman really was. Man of "steel" more like man of "Titanium".
@coda567
@coda567 2 ай бұрын
@@eduardolamboy4776superman/kryptonians are never written very well, or very consistently. "Man of Steel" superman (Henry Cavill) was written such that a helicopter gun much like the gun we see here fully knocked back his head and disoriented superman for a moment with a single round to the forehead. Superman in this video is significantly more durable and powerful than Man of Steel. (Man of Steel is pretty silly for that and a few other things for sure, if any standard bullet knocks his head back than any actual super-powered punch or weapon would genuinely threaten him. He's supposed to be passively invulnerable to all simple weapons. That's the real scale of it. Even nukes and super powers struggle how could any bullet matter more than a breeze?)

@JediWitness2
@JediWitness2 4 жыл бұрын
Yes it is. And what's cooler is that the book described all these scenes in more detail. For example as far as the security guards were concerned Superman was moving so fast that to them, he literally just appeared out of thin air right in front of them. They actually thought that he simply teleported in from out of no where because he was flying so fast that he was essentially invisible to the naked eye. Those bullets are traveling at least 2000mph and he came in at least 3x times faster than those bullets. That's faster than being a blur.. That's beyond invisible speed. In the book the guards were startled out of their skin as they fully expected to die. But then Superman literally seemed to materialize out of no where and starts walking towards the bullets like they're made of paper. Not even the force of the bullets themselves is slowing him down as he casually walks into the heavy Gatling gun fire. No matter how many times I watch this scene it's still a mind blower!

To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? He that has ears to hear, let him hear. Are you saved? Where will you go when you die? Heaven or hell? The Gospel, which means the Good News is the news that God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh as Jesus Christ to take away the sin of the world. The one God is a trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Son came and laid down his own life to save ours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. Although God's creation was created perfect, having no death, sickness and disease, the creation became corrupted through Adam and Eve in them disobeying God. In this rebellion the creation became fallen through the curse of sin and mankind became separated from God. This world is fallen, but God offers reconciliation to him through his provision at the cross. Ultimately God will restore his creation to perfection when he returns but those that who reject his offer of redemption will remain condemned by their sins and go to hell. John 1:1,14 KJV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD. [14] And THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH, and dwelt among us, 1 John 3:8 KJV He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Isaiah 9:6 KJV For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and THE WORLD KNEW HIM NOT.

It's as basic as the first editions of his Adventures in DC books, just a fearless walk into bullets with open chest But Superman tries to avoid such whenever there is that possibility of getting shot at because he knows, as they kind of tried briefly to show as side-story, that there are consequences to the barrage of bullets ricocheting off his body and specially if there are innocent civilians not too far

This bullet to the eye struck me as being impressive. I think the creative team that conceived this sequence really should be given a few accolades as it impressed Superman's extreme invulnerability to conventional attacks. The whole sequence only lasts a few seconds of on-screen time, and yet it gives us a hero-worshiping respect for the invulnerability of someone of Superman's caliber. This one scene telegraphs the invulnerability of the super-hero. Kudos to the writers, cinematographers, etc.

Agreed. The first half of this movie was fantastic, with several highly inspirational moments (This being one of them). The opening sequence with John William's original score was really uplifting. When he saved the plane from crashing at the stadium, I couldn't help but cheer & feel elated. The scene just before this one where he's floating up in space all alone, remembering his father's words, was emotionally touching. The second half, with Lex's scheme and Supes overcoming all that Kryptonite, wasn't that good, but the movie had already made a deeply positive impression on me by then. I did like that scene where Lois's son inadvertently reveals who his real father is.

Honestly, the film is pretty good if you go in with an open mind and accept that it's going to be more centered on drama while also having a quaint tone and deliberate pace. It feels like a decent, proper sequel to the original Donner film. The main issue is that it is frankly way too deliberate for its own good. (And I'm saying that as someone who genuinely enjoys this film.) There's at least 10 or 15 minutes of material that could be cut out of it, and it would flow a lot better.

Even as a child, Superman's invulnerability fascinated me much more than his superstrength. As I got older, I realized that this was because this was a quality that would totally change the world, if it existed, and if everybody had it. This scene is GREAT, and Brandon Routh played it perfectly. Thank God they had enough sense to leave it in the film, unlike the even better multiple test of Superman's invincibility in the 1978 Christopher Reeve film, where Luthor throws machine-gun fire, REAL fire, and freezing at Our Hero; a scene that was inexplicably CUT from the finished film.
@Asertix357

In the X-Men cartoon from the 90s, Colossus was my favorite because of his invulnerability. Super strength is nice and all, but you don't have to worry about breaking things if you're durable enough to get struck by a speeding car and not even incur a bruise.

I like how when the bullet bounced off Superman's eye and the guy watched it fall Superman looked down with him

Yeah, I liked this movie. I think Brandon was more like how Christopher was with looks and build. Pretty awesome moment with the bullet/eye scene.

@@TheJimyyy judging by the way that gun ripped the cars apart and the fact this isn't a real show, it's very likely that gun was shooting .50 rounds

@@TheJimyyy maybe eventually but he didn't have the amount of bullets he'd need to shred through the stair case at that angle. He already shot 2/3 of his bullets when the cops flanked him.
