During film for Justice League, Henry Cavill had a moustache that he was unable to shave because he was filming Mission Impossible as well. A CGI team digitally attempted to remove the moustache. As a result there is a very cartoonish look to his face.
Using deep fake vfx cgi we are able to more accurately and believably create a new face mask that overlays the film version. The process of deep fake vfx takes days and sometimes weeks to accurately compare the two faces and attempts to create a new face.

Yeah even comparing these two you can tell the original definitely puffed up the area around his lips. Even the bottom lip which shouldn't have been needed to remove a mustache...

Well I mean the vfx team only had a small limited amount of time, which is why it looks incomplete. But the deep fake took as much time as they needed which is why it looks better

Even though the result of the original is a little janky, I‘m still pretty impressed by it. I play around with 3D and VFX myself as a hobby and I can understand how incredibly hard this is to make. Especially with very limited time. In my eyes this is by far the least problem this movie had.

Definitely better. For the life of me, I cannot see why the major FX houses have not adapted deepfake technology instead of developing hopelessly inferior (and expensive!) competing techniques of their own. I know there are issues, but it's open source, and they HAVE the talent to improve the code for their specific needs. I have not checked out the licensing, so maybe it's that - GPL requires making the source code available, potentially to their competition. Which would not make sense, given that skill and finesse is a MAJOR part of making it work convincingly. It's a matter of tools+ ability. ADDENDUM: yes, it's GNU 3.0. So that's why. I would hazard a guess that many individual artists at these companies have suggested the same thing, but been downvoted by the suits. Wouldn't want to be competing for bids against everyone else using the same "secret sauce". As if they all don't already use many of the same tools, anyway...

I think you improved on his cheek mostly and added some weight to his face. Its an improvement for sure. He looked really wooden to me with those dark creases in his cheek before. The upper lip looks the same to me but it is a huge improvement.

Question: woudl the deepfake algorithm you applied have been even more effective, had you applied it to the original untouched video footage (i.e. before their bungled moustache removal?). I only enquire, since the phrase "trying to polish a turd comes to mind". But great work anyway, there's no doubt a huge improvement over the monstrosity they released.

The worst part, is that this wasn't Henry Cavill at all. It was Superman's body double who acted in this scene, and Joss Whedon deepfaked him... The quality even for a big studio is just horrible... People with PCs in their homes, achieving this level of quality, renders and deepfakes, and old WB achieving this shit.

There's a rumour that this was Henry Cavill's double, and that Cavill's face was added later in postproduction. It's also interesting to know that WB didn't allow Zack Snyder to use the Black suit, so he modified the Blue suit adding a silver suit/cape under the blue suit, so it could be changed in postproduction, into the black and silver suit. Joss Whedon didn't knew this and used the blue suit as it was, and that's why it looks this way.

Looks a lot better, the upper lip animation and how it is motivated by the other muscles in the face still looks off, but not much you can do about that I would exec

yes because who in his right mind thought that putting bad CGI in one of the best and more iconic characters of all times was a good idea? Also, after seing the Snyder Cut, there was no need for any reshoot at all. WTF

Amazed me then, and still does now, how AWFUL that ‘stache removal looks. You can still tell now - but it looks worlds better - thanks for the work put into this.
